411 on Gatherings Department Staff openings

The Cosplayer Gatherings Department is looking for a few good fans & photographers (amateur & professional) to be a part of our staff. As CG staff you will meet many of the cosplayers in all those fantastic costumes, know the 411 on where a gathering or event is, help control the crowd of fans at some of Fanime’s big gatherings along with the opportunity of knowing first hand how to run a gathering on site during Fanime. Our work is during the day so your nights are free to watch Cosplay Masquerade, move your body at the Fanime Dance, listen to the bands at Music Fest, grab a partner and twirl around the dance floor at the Black and White Ball, take in some night time programming at Stage Zero, Karaoke, or Video, unless you just want to hang out with your friends! If you want to work nights then the Cosplayer Hangout is for you! It closes at midnight so you will have time to dance and hang out with your late night friends! Just be sure to mention you want to work @ night when you respond!

With our department we allow our staff to Cosplay (not mandatory though) while they work and can make allowances for you to participate in a few gatherings or even attend other Fanime programming! Cosplaying & actively assisting in making FanimeCon 2013 a great experience for all the attending fans how AWESOME is that!

You should know that it is mandatory that all CG Staff will attend the DAY ZERO meeting: Thursday, May 23, 2013 *location is TBA*. It is important for all our staff to be present for this because we will have training, go over CG department operations, and do a walk-about to all the gathering/event locations of our department. As a group, during the training, CGD staff will go to pick up their staff badge.

Also note to those applying for photography: The dead line for applying is April 1, 2013.
*A separate photographer mandatory meeting may be required for you to attend prior to FanimeCon 2013. This information will be sent out to those photographers that have made it to the "Photographer Interview" portion for becoming CGD staff &/or returning CGD staff photographers.*

Adjustments to your time sheet will be made at the end of the meeting, so that you can attend some of the FanimeCon activities, but this is where you would swap time with another CG staff member. If you can not make it to the Thursday, May 23, 2013, DAY ZERO meeting then this is not the staff position for you. CG staff will work at least 25 hours over the course of the weekend during FanimeCon and the DAY ZERO meeting does not count towards your hours.

Cosplayer Gatherings and Events Table STAFF Hours of Operation:
hrs of operations depend on Gatherings/Events list the closing time may be earlier.
Thursday ~ (day zero 2 1/2 hr meeting) & (CG Staff dinner night after the meeting)
Friday ~ 8:45 AM – 7 PM
Saturday ~ 8:45 AM – 7 PM
Sunday ~ 8:45 AM – 7 PM
Monday ~ 9 AM – 4 PM or until last gathering/event checks in and breakdown is complete.

Cosplayer Hangout STAFF Hours of Operation:
Thursday ~ TBA
Friday ~ 8:45 AM - Midnight
Saturday ~ 8:45 AM - Midnight
Sunday ~ 8:45 AM - Midnight
Monday ~ Closed

Things we are looking for in Cosplayer Gatherings Staff & Photographers:
~ prefer 18 years and up
~ any previous staff experience is not required but is preferred
~ polite & friendly
~ willing to answer the same question multiple times
~ ability to talk to people
~ understand why people cosplay
~ can have fun with others
~ For photography ~ Photographer etiquette to cosplayers, other photographers, and attendees

Cosplayer Gathering General Staff Duties:
~ Gathering/Event Organizer check in
~ Gatherings/Event attendance counting
~ Greeting attendees and addressing questions asked or directing them to a location that can
~ Assist in the operations of the FanimeCon Theme Gathering & Cosplayer Events
~ Assist in the operations of CG department raffles
~ Run various errands over the weekend
~ Cosplayer Hangout Operational Duties ~ TBA
**Photographer duties TBD by photography skills**

Cosplayer Gatherings Staff Training:
~ General etiquette while conversing with attendees & photographers
~ Line/Crowd control
~ Filling out of department paperwork
~ General interaction protocol while handling CG business with other departments at FanimeCon
~ Other ~ TBD

If you are interested in being on staff with Cosplayer Gatherings we would like you to do two things:
1. Send me an email at gatherings [at] fanime [dot] com & a pm (for questions or letting me know you have sent me a response via email) on the Fanime Forums (the pm also lets me know you have a forum account.) Please put CG Department Staff 2013 in the subject line. Include any skill, training, education or info about you that you feel we might be interested in. *If you are interested in the late shift in the Cosplayer Hangout please be sure to note that also.*

If you are looking to be a photographer (amateur & professional are encouraged to apply) on our staff please submit a link to album/folder/gallery specifically showcasing 20 pictures you feel represent your style, artistic eye, abilities and range. Please tell us how long you have been taking pictures, camera (s), lenses, if you have any education in photography, and anything else you feel would be important for us to know. A simple digital camera and six months of amateur photography can land you a spot on our staff if we like what we see, so don't be afraid to apply.

2. A meeting  will be announced where we will meet with all prospective staff. Photographers will be notified of their photography interview time via email. If this is set during a Fanime Meeting then we will meet @ 3:30 pm during this meeting.

Maikiritori and I would like to meet all perspective staff with some of our current staff to make sure we are all the right fit! We will ask you some questions such as, “Why do you want to staff with us?” or “What areas have you worked at con before and where?” and we will answer your questions too. If our department doesn't work for you then one of the other departments might be so we will point you in the right direction if possible. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

The "Theme Gathering" is separate from this event, but both will be run by my department.

If someone is in to acting, singing or dance and wanted to show off their talents in front of their Fanime peers then this event would be perfect for them! Of course they should be brave... very brave... cause the Fanime Fans are the ones with the say so on just how good it is :P It isn't about the cosplay costume quality or even if you made it  :o, it is about the "SKILLLLZ! ::)" *giggles I am tempting all of you huh?  ;D

@bahamutknightzero:  :-X Glad I have your interest and I can't wait to tell everyone about it!

so you do want the gathering organizers to wait to post a time for their respective gatherings until this is approved? I'm just curious, cause usually I like to get a time secured asap.

You have nothing to worry about Yukari. ^^)

TO EVERYONE: I know that this may be an slight inconvenience, but to not give the heads up would be a bigger mistake. I have a dozen requests already, but as I have stated... Yukari ~ organizer of the Bleach gathering, BrightHeart ~ organizer of the Naruto gathering, and myself/BSaphire ~ Organizer of both Shonen Jump and Final Fantasy All gatherings will set our times first so that there is space for these large gatherings and those that come to see them. Also, if the Fanime theme gathering (which happens to be "Fantasy RPG" collects those that attend the FF ALL gathering then it will be a back to back large gathering on Saturday along with the Bleach gathering.

Some of you may be asking why so here is perspective as to why...
Take either of my two gatherings:
Shonen Jump had 75 cosplayers attending the gathering in 09 and for each cosplayer there is at least one person in the crowd so that is 150 people in one area. From there you can add another 50 people in photographers and friends which brings it to 200. This takes up quite a bit of room and the area is more congested for a longer period of time.
Final Fantasy ALL has 61 possible cosplayers as of 1/15/2010. I expect 100 + cospeeps in attendance and at least 150 in the crowd.
Bleach and Naruto will have around 100 cospeeps in attendance and the same with the crowd.

So with this large of a group in one area for one or more hours it can congest one side of the fountains. Large 60+ gatherings are held outside because of this. I also want to mention that these large gatherings pull most of the photographers to them because of the large assortment of coplayers so this could cause another gathering to not get as much photo recognition as it could when set at a different time slot.

If any organizer wishes to submit their time request now (via pm) they may, just follow the directions on the third post of the gatherings list thread. Once the large gatherings are listed then I will process the completed requests by day and time submitted so that it is fair.

I also want to mention that if an organizer has someone helping on a different forum (they are running the one on the Fanime forums but the assistant is running the one on the Cosplay . com Fanime section of the forum then please submit their info with yours.

If a submission is incomplete then until it is complete it does not get considered. ie* You send a pm on Friday with your gathering info but forgot the URL's then it isn't complete. I send you a reply and you resubmit it on Monday complete. I then consider Monday to be the day that the complete time submission request was sent to me and not Friday.

@ Avairrianna: :) Hummmm... I like that guess... it could be something like that :P or not *LOL  ;D

Ah yes, I remember you mentioning this before. I'll make sure my Cosplay Battle event doesn't clash with the timing (my gathering shouldn't interfere, given it's on friday evening). Looking forward to it!

:o Oh MY GOSH! SORRY... I fixed that... You are both awesome people and I put the wrong name. Fixed another typo/spelling error too. Your welcome  :) I hope I come back from the meeting this weekend with announcement on this event *crosses fingers* Then I can start doing some pre-reg for the event ^^)

@ Eliteslayer: If this is really successful I hope to have one of the preliminary shows Friday evening. Going with Sunday and Saturday first though. Max #'s we have planned are: 4 preliminary shows of no more than 15 entries each preliminary with 4 judges each preliminary (60 total entries and 12 judges) and then a final show where the preliminary winners compete against each other on Sunday.

As a teaser I want to throw out this bit of info:  If this event is a go... it is a great way to test out your skit for Cosplay Masq, extra singing practice for your Karaoke competition, or a place to show of your mad dance skills, just to name a few... the catch is that it is in front of the audience who will say if you have what it takes to impress them. The audience will be able to greatly help the judges in determining if your awesome or if your one of those that needs to get off the stage. Like I said before... bring your best game and let the Fanime fans decide.

Oooh cool! :D I shall have no problem with this. I am definately interested, then! :D I'll have three dances prepared for Fanime! ^^ And no, they're not Haruhi dances. =P The 3 I'm talking about, I still have to learn them, sorta! XD I might try singing, too. ^^;;

So the big news is..... *sigh.... I didn't get the answers I needed to launch... but Sara and I are working on it.... Feel like I'm at a dance and my partner keeps changing....

Anyway... Peeps can submit their time requests via pm if they feel they can't hold out ... The next meeting is Feb 20th, but I hope to have this resolved way before then! I did do a list of those time submission requests that are complete and a second list of those that still require info. You can find it on post #4 on the Gatherings and Events List Thread.

Thank you everyone for your support and patients. :) Sara and I deeply appreciate it!

Now that I have somewhat reliable internets, I would like to add my two cents...

I'm so glad to see you all looking forward to this event (if it gets launched). I promise that you won't be disappointed by our little master plan of awesome-ness-ness-ness. It will be amazingly fun to watch and to participate in. But, B is correct in her dance analogy. We're dancing to a different beat at every new turn with new partners at every other new turn. It's rather frustrating. But I feel that we're making progress. Hopefully you won't have to wait much longer for us to be able to finally announce it... officially... =D
Anyway, sorry if our little master plan is inconveniencing to any of you.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Fanime very soon.
