Try not to feel so down or upset, I am very sure this might be your first time OR your still progressing...
Be advise you just started doing something that most people already gave up...!Fan art!
Fan arts are hard, really...
So I suggest to keep trying harder on your works.
btw:::::
I'm still surprise you did yours in illustrator since I really really hated doing anchor points! i mean lets face it, alot of people chosen photoshop/gimp/manga-studio/corel/iphone app. Keep improving as much as you can, it really does pay off.

if you can: try to use Gradients, I know they are a pain, but gradients can make WONDERFUL effects!

I totally agree with you. I use both Photoshop and Illustrator by the way.
