I would be going this year but now I've decided agaist it because-

 I've noticed that these past times i've gone to fanime Leashes and collars have gotten rather popular-

If you have a collar for your cosplay then ya, go for it but what i mean is that the people who wear the leashes and things as if they are a type of bondage-
So what, If I'm wearing leather,spikes and chains that means i'm into bondage?
no way! I really hate how today that's what spikes and things are associated with-
So i'm not going due to the pervs-

(I'm still going to cosplay of course though, just not at conventions...lol dork..)

I'd have to say it doesn't make me uncomfortable but it is annoying. It's a lot of the teenagers going through that time in there life. And since rock has been the popular (At least more than normal) genre youth that are ill informed do what they want.... I'm trying to keep my little brother from doing that kind of stupid things....

So once again I don't see why it should make you uncomfortable since more than half the people that go to conventions watch some kind of porn.... I mean there is hentai and yaoi viewing rooms at night! And what about those Chocolat(DISCLAIMER: The one I saw at fanime a few years back did NOT have a body suit on underneath) and other inappropriate cosplays?

Sac-Anime might be more your speed. That convention is so kids friendly I don't see anything questionable there....

Of course if not, don't complain about it... just don't go.

Wait wait wait. Okay let me get this straight. You're telling me... that... you're not going to an anime con, because some people that go to the convention may be wearing collars and spikes, and chains and leather... may be into bondage?

Did I get that right? Or that something that for a long time has been associated with that type of culture(fetish) is associated... with... that culture may be confused for being associated with that culture because you're wearing it upsets you?

This makes absolutely no sense at all. I seriously don't understand this. And then I looked at your profile and it revealed you're 16 yo. So now things may be making a little more sense to me. But just to tell you how absurd this is.

You're telling people that you do not want to go to a convention because some people like collars/spikes/leashes/punk  culture wear that is highly associated with fetish wear. So, you're insulted that there is this association.

Well the mentioned have become associated with Bondage to a degree in various types on media.
You can hate it all you want, but it won't change anything, and quite honestly it can easily be ignored.

Also I don't particularly think that this would make anyone a pervert. Everyone has their own preferences and likes (be it a sexual one or not) And as long as it is within the law then there is no reason someone should be judged for it.

I agree that the post didn't make a whole lot of sense...but where'd the furry comment come from? The Sonic stuff? Did I miss something?

But really, it is a silly reason not to go. People will sexualize anything. It shouldn't stop you from wearing what you want (within reason) or going to certain  places. I like knee-high socks and some guys have a ...thing for that, but I'm not wearing it for them, and I'm not going to stop wearing something I like just because someone might associate that with some naughty school girl fantasy. I hope Throwfox can get past caring what others think of her so she can just have fun doing what she likes to do.

While I don't mind it or let it bother me, I've always wondered why there are several people out on the con floor with those 'bondage' type getups, especially at around midnight-ish. I'm pretty sure it's not cosplay.

And here I was having a discussion about Knee High socks with my Buddy while taking care of parking for SAP.
In the end I found I prefer Thigh High Socks over them =P

Welcome to reality.  The people who approached you in misperception were most likely uneducated or you are taking it the wrong way.  It's either you inform them or ignore them.  Either most of them probably didn't mean to cause any perverted intent or you are misunderstanding them.

Edit: Everyone that goes to FanimeCon is a deviant from "normal" society, so nuts to the hypocrites among you who think watching Japanese cartoons is 100% okay and wearing a collar in public is wrong in any way. I grew up in a household where I had to watch anime in secret because it was viewed as something that would destroy my life (yes, seriously) and I had always thought the anime-loving crowd was more accepting of people in general. Now, that's probably true of something like 93-98% of you guys, but the rest of you get my dander up. See past the kink or the quirk or whatever, and see the person.

If the original poster is worried about how someone is dressed at Fanime, maybe he / she should just become a hermit and avoid society in total.  The rest of the world has lots of strange people around it (perceived and real weirdoes).

Besides the fact that it was kind of the point. By placing in the same kind of narrowminded view and unacceptance of judgment as she does in my post it shows just how quick judging and hypocritical she was being based on single off handed comments pertaining to the comparison of regularly accepted associations.

I wonder if the OP has ever been to San Francisco. Or... outside before. The judgments she is complaining about being associated with conventions happen everywhere. Whether it be the internet, San Jose, or Boise Idaho. Socially accepted and associated views. They're not even stereotypes because in all intent and purpose, that's what things like chokers are made for. They're bondage equipment that some people decided to wear as fashionable accesories.

Let's think about it... what are chokers and leashes for? Animals. Animals wear these things so their owner/master can contain/restrain/control their animals.

BY DEFINITION AND CREATION THAT IS WHAT THESE OBJECTS ARE. So if someone is wearing a choker, making that association is only natural to do.
