What's your opinion on what's going on out there in the political world? Who do you think should be president? Barrack (Saddam) Hussein Obama, or John (I don't think he'll live through his term) McCain? Do you think Hillary should have been on the ballot in place of Obama? I mean, she might be going through menopause (which means we'd be screwed anyway) or she might even be past that, in which case she might as well be a man.  Does Palin being on McCain's ticket make you want to vote for him because she's a woman?

Are you a Republican or a Democrat? Or a...something else that doesn't matter....KIDDING, yet not.  Will you be voting R or D? Why?

I only recently registered to vote and of course i'm labeled "independant" I really don't like politics because of how fake the candidated represent themselves and how little they actually care about important matters like the problems right here in america. Honestly i don't like Hilary either. i want someone in office who isn't power hungry, knows his stuff, will hold themself together when the mud starts to fly, and will give a damn about our own problems as a country!

Anyway, Im on the liberal democratic side I think that Having Obama in office will be something refreshing, someone who isnt in the mainstream light and I like his ideals with the economy and education. That hes actually going to give a crap with the strenghtening of public schools especially the ones that have been struggling to meet goverment standards. That he cares about the environment and is willing to make this earth a greener one

Either way, if McCain or Obama becomes president, our economy will still be in the dumps, it's a fact. There's almost nothing that can help improve our economy, especially after all the spending we've done for the past years. We're going to run into a huge economic crisis. The "war" we're fighting isn't going to end just like how old wars ended, hell this isn't even a war that's going on, it's just us invading countries in the name of "peace" or whatever, if it was a real war, then if we "won" (there is no such thing as winning a war imo) we could have a chance of redeeming our economy, as it's pretty much fact, whenever a country wins a war their economy grows immensely.

Also, the stock market is crap, I know someone who works there and pretty much is afraid of the future.

Ethnicity will always control the vote.

We've only invaded one country in the name of 'peace' and 'democracy'.  The rationale of Iraq is easily debateable, but Afghanistan has a much stronger case of national interest.

As for the value of voting, there are numerous times where senators and governers have been elected by just a few hundred votes.  Sometimes even less.  And how do you intend to reform the election system without electing senators and congressmen to push reform?

Two of the most popular US presidents came from modest backgrounds.  Abraham Lincoln came from a poor farming family.  Clinton's father was a traveling salesman, and his stepfather was an abusive drunk.  Other lesser known presidents where not simply born into success.

And what does being 'white' have to do with it?  A quick glance shows a wide spectrum of histories.  You have soldiers, lawyers, and professional politicians.  Human rights activists and machiavellian power wielders.

Or MAYBE, just MAYBE, it has something to do with bad mortgage practices and loans.  But instead of actually trying to figure out why there's talk of spending 700 billion+ in American tax dollars to 'bail out' AIG and other companies, let's just blame it on W and the Iraq War.  After all, if there wasn't a war in Iraq, people would NEVER have made so many risky mortgage investments.  Next up, the theory that Kosovo was behind the .com fallout.

Under 25,000 votes would have changed the election between Carter and Ford.  And that's not even the smallest margin of difference in electoral votes.  How many new voter's registered in 2004?  A lot more than 25,000, and enough to make a difference.

Oh one more thing, how is it that the middle east can fight us so well? We have the best technology in the world, yet we can't defeat a third world country.

You have to understand the difference in fighting an insurgency and fighting a conventional war.  The insurgents don't have to win fights.  In fact, few major insurgent operations have succeeded.  I have not heard of any major attacks result in anything other than complete annihilation for the insurgents.

It is not about technology, it is about people, building up security and handing out jobs.  One of the most succesful programs, the Sons of Iraq, had nothing to do with technology.  But as long as people don't feel safe enough to go out for an ice cream cone and feel it's America's fault the power isn't always on, Iraq cannot be viewed as 'mission accomplished'.

So where is Bin Laden?

Somewhere on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan, making his overblown video tapes while on the run and not planning anything of importance in the last eight years.

And while it'd be great to catch him, really great, it's important not to get too caught up on him, keeping in mind that Al-Qaeda and similar organizations are not bound to any single leader.  Organizations such as AQI don't even receive instruction from him.  And AQI is a great example of how unimportant the leadership can be at times.  Zarqawi made himself out to be such a public figurehead for the insurgency, but when he died you could see how just little he mattered.

If I could vote (I'm only 17) I'd vote for Obama since I agree with more of his views than McCain's. In all honesty I don't like either politician and I wasn't too fond of Hilary. I really dislike Palin though. I just don't agree with her on anything. She's too ultra Christian conservative for my taste.

You're talking about the Electoral College right?  It's really not as simple as a group of people showing up and voting based on their own bias.  Basically each state has a set number of votes in the elctoral college.  For example we'll use my home state of Nevada, Nevada has 5 votes in the Electoral College.  Each party with a Presidential Candidate on the state ballot has 5 voters sworn to vote for their parties representative.  When the popular vote for the state is counted the party with the most popular votes sends their 5 representatives to vote in the Electoral College.  This is designed to protect states with smaller populations from being ignored.  There's a lot of argument that it defeats the principles of democracy because it's an indirect voting system.  We don't vote for the President, we vote for the designated voters. 

While I am in favor of a changing the system to reflect the popular vote instead of the electoral college, I still think the system we have is adequate.

Your vote DOES mean something.  And you can affect change by taking part in the democratic process.  There are a lot of instances where the result of an election was decided by just one vote.
