yeah, it's a hard habit to break, taking on too much, feeling like i have to do all these things to prove something. People have noticed things slipping up here and there. It's great though that there are friends willing to give me a shove. Got all my prints and sketches done after their group attack on me. ^^; yeah, i did exaggerate though on the artist alley thing. Even if I couldn't do it, still have other oppurtunities. It just would be nice to be at Fanime's Alley. Though i do have a question on schooling. Just getting some opinions, i think i've got a good idea, but.....one of my classmates wants to major in something practical and then maybe do art on the side and another classmate is going in undecided but is veering to major in art. though it takes a few more years >< i think going for art and then studying in something practical for support makes sense, any suggestions to this plan?

sigh, made a deal with my dad about selling art at fanime and was all pumped up. But the artist alley situation..... it would really suck for this last chance to show him that i can finish something to go down in water. For sure I thought this would show how much i would be willing to work for it, but now he's smiling at that the thought that i may not go! he really doesn't quite get how important art is to me. Any advice on how to deal with this or somehow reach some sort of middle ground before he completely stops supporting me? He's a loving father, but i don't think we're on the same page.......

... What artists alley situation?

How old are you? It sounds like you're just whining to be honest.

You see, the way you word things, sounds really bad for you. Let me explain with some examples.

Quoteit would really suck for this last chance to show him that i can finish something to go down in water

This says to me. You are unreliable, never finish what you start, and half ass everything you do. You clearly state, you don't finish what you start, and this was your first real chance to do something you said you'd do.

QuoteFor sure I thought this would show how much i would be willing to work for it, but now he's smiling at that the thought that i may not go!

This even pushes it even more. Your dad is smiling at the thought that... he's right... because once more you aren't accomplishing something you said you would because of your own lack of will.

Why do you need your dad's support to do art? Just to let you realize, art isn't exactly the easiest thing to get into. Thousands of people go into art thinking they're remotely good. A small percentage of these people are actually good. A good amount of these good people still can't make it in art. What makes you special?

Your dad is just being realistic. You can do art with or without his support. That's for you to do and pursue. If you're talking about schooling...

But back to the important question...

what artist alley situation?

^^; true. maybe should cut back on some things and repriorize. sit down and think things through first before getting into a mess. sorry, i meant that he heard about this possibility of no artist alley tables left and made early assumptions. as to the world of art, i'm just new to the options ^^;;; just poking around to see what's out there. just a big change recently, kinda threw me off, switching to a new school and all.

Well, from personal experience...it's all or nothing. Commit to what you want to do, and the only person you need to prove anything to is yourself. Prioritize your responsibilities. A career in art is HARD. VERY HARD. I know this from experience.

Like I said, it takes a lot of commitment to do the things you love, and it may take a while for you to accomplish your goals. Don't burn yourself out, and try to keep a level head. Don't worry about what other people think. You're not alone.
