just for clarification, since I noticed someone already mention wearing a kimono, are geta allowed?

Last year, depending on who was at the door, we got different answers.

Nina Star 9,

My only concern with the heel cap is if it will cause you to slip while on the dance floor.  The main reason for the heal size is due to safety concerns and to not damage the dance floor.  I would have to say that even with the heel covers, the heels would still not be allowed into the BWBall.

The 1/2 inch part is referring to the heel point where it meets the floor.  So at the narrowest part of the bottom of the heel as you stated.  I hope that helps.

- Jim

That helps a lot, thanks. :D

Most of the heel caps like those that I can find online are advertised for ballroom dancing, but I still understand.

Okach

Heel caps exist under the assumption of a full bore sprung mounted floor, not a more fragile and portable floor.

I was wondering I know it says its Black and White Ball and formal Cosplay attire. Does this count as formal?.

Im not a moderator, so I could be wrong, but I am most likely sure that, that gown is formal. It has the right length, it doesn't have a trashy appearence, it looks like a gown as well. Even though it is simple, it still has elegance.

If you missed it the dress code, and list of dance lessons, has gone up on the Famime website.  Here is a link to the dress code.  If you still have a question about your dress please do not hesitate to ask.

Hi there, I really don't think it will be appropriate attire, but I'm gonna ask anyways. My friend's cosplay is a black school uniform from High School of The Dead (minus the blood of course). I'm wondering if that will be good enough to get him in?

Like I said, I don't think its formal but I wanted to ask and make sure so that he will have proper clothes to wear.

Wabbit98

Do you have a picture of what it would look like?  Not all of us are familiar with the series.  But if it is like other high school uniforms then I do not think it is formal enough for the Black and White Ball.

But I can't tell unless I see a picture, also has your friend checked out the dress code policy that has been posted to the Fanime website?  http://www.fanime.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Black_and_White_Ball_2011.pdf

Thank you,

My friend is planning on cosplay Little Sister from Bioshock.

Is this outfit appropriate?  I know there's blood on it, but she is wearing a dress.

Hi,
I'm from out of town, first time attending Fanime.  I've read the dress code info sheet, and I have some questions regarding the attire for the Black and White ball.

(1) I will be wearing dress pants and dress shoes.  As for the top, is it OK to wear dress shirt and vest (or dress shirt only, rather than suit jacket, because I assume it will be really warm/hot inside)?

(2) Just for clarification, this is not a masquerade ball, right?  That is, we don't have to wear masks?

Thanks.

tkdteo

Hello, I am going to try and reply to a few posts so please bear with me. :)

Klmedia,

Welcome to Fanime and the Black and White Ball.  Dress shirt is fine.  You don't need to have a jacket for the Ball.  It does tend to get a bit warm after a bit of dancing. Also this is not a masquerade ball so you do not need to wear a mask.  I hope that helps.

Koella,

Although it is a dress, I do not feel that the Little Sister outfit is appropriate for BWBall.  Please remember that we would still like to keep with a formal and elegant theme.  So I am going to have to say no to the dress due to the blood and overall look of the dress.

RinChan,

Although it is a school uniform, I would have to say that it would not be formal enough.  Now with that said, if you could send a pic to [email protected], I would be able to confirm that for you or it may be able to pass for formal attire.  I won't know until I see what it looks like.  But based on the description the answer would be no to the uniform.

Serena 88,

The dress looks fine for the BWBall.  Just remember to keep the dress length to no shorter than 3 inches from the knee.

Lady_Hoshi,

Getas are not going to be allowed into BWBall.  Although they can be part of a cosplay, I find that it would be hard to dance in getas and they do not stay on your feet that well which can lead to injuries.  I hope that helps.

OK, I think that is it for now.  If there are any other questions, please feel free to post or send an email my way to bwball@fanime,com.  Thanks.

So just to clarify, outfits do not have to be strictly black and white right? I ask this because for one of my cosplays I have a RED suit. Is this okay to wear?

Outfits do not have to be black and white.  They just have to fit the dress code criteria.

Are there any rules concerning hoopskirts?

FWIW, I wore one there last year (a four-bone) and didn't have any problems -- though I don't know if the rules have changed this year.
2012 Plans:
  • Gypsy Queen / Kaya Syokka (Trinity Blood)
  • Risai (Juuni Kokki/Twelve Kingdoms)
  • Shusui (Saiunkoku Monogatari)
  • others TBD

Hoopskirts are fine as long as the dress does not go above 3 inches from the knee.  Do keep in mind though, that there will be people dancing around you and you yourself will be dancing.  Although hoopskirts are allowed in the BWBall, they tend to be hard to dance in, especially if they are for a long dress.  Just a thought.  I hope that helps.

Hey!

So for the b&w, my friend and I want to do formal renditions of Ezio and Leonardo(from assassin's creed) since her prom dress is assassin-themed.

I'm her Leonardo and I have a tunic that'll go a bit above my thigh (I'm not sure how much at this point)and I'll have leggings underneath with these nice boots that I own.

Would it be allowed if it were too short even WITH the leggings, that I could wear pants and have that be allowed?

Wabbit98

If you could provide us with a link to a picture of what it would look like that would be helpful in answering your question.

Thank you,
Kevin
