Imagine what you'd get if you combined the orchestral score to an epic film, together with the technical groove of Meshuggah, and the atmosphere of any project by Devin Townsend, and a sinewy, meat and potatoes approach to guitar tone and riff-writing like you'd find in Fear Factory....

You'd get Xerath, this metal band from the UK.

This is from their first album. The riff-writing is a little less refined, and vocally more like something from Meshuggah/Fear Factory.

Unite to Defy
This is from their latest release. They're a little more polished, and vocally they're more like Devin Townsend.

Unless you don't like metal vocals. But to be fair, metal isn't a vocally-centric genre. I'd imagine it'd easier to listen to if you just hear the voice as some sort of woodwind-stringed-percussion instrument with a unique timbre. Personally I like metal vocals. It's like if a lion or some powerful creature from a fantasy novel are behind the microphone.

So check em out anyways! They're one of the reasons I think metal can be one of the most majestic genres outside of classical music.
