Fanime Rap Battle 2010: Great idea, or GREATEST idea

I think that one of the days next year, Fanime should host a freestyle rap battle contest in the Karaoke room.

I've battled quite a number of people this year, and there appears to be scores down with the hip-hop culture.

The idea itself is neat but think about it like a video game tournament in the game room.  How many people would sign up thinking they have mad skillz when it turns out they're horrible. I could see 40 or 50 people signing up and maybe a third being entertaining while the rest are just awkward or don't do as well.  I'm being pessimistic, but it doesn't change the fact that you'd have to weed through a lot of bad contestants to get to good ones.

Without getting into it too much (or at least I'll try not to), music is always evolving and what's "mainstream" really just means "popular". If you're a fan of "gangsta rap", you can still find it today (same with pop music, death metal, etc.). To say that a genre is dead is really not correct just because you don't like what's being played on the radio.

For the record, I rarely listen to the radio as most of it sounds horrible to me, but I can still find some great new music for the genres that I like. If worse comes to worse, I can always play my favorite old records :P

If organized, what if the winner of this contest then performs at Masquerade as one of the opening acts, like the karaoke contest winner did?

lmao XD awesome. I have to agree with Jirekianu about this, I do see it being VERY awkward when the weeding out process begins but just think about all the great and possible hilarious raps we could hear once we get to the GOOD rappers.
