They did close.  They just haven't found anyone to take over the spot and the Mervyn's signage was still up last I was through the area.

Correct. I live pretty close to Princeton Plaza (the shopping center where Anime V is).
As for the store, I haven't bought anything from them since Fanime (they had a booth in the Dealer's Room)

They've held some events that seemed pretty cool.  I haven't gone to any because San Jose is an hour away, but they seem friendly and involved.
