Every year I am amused by the battle that rages on between the protesters and the cosplayers. This year, I'd like to get some people together who are willing to COSPLAY the PROTESTERS. I imagine it would be great fun.

LOL.  Genius.  But how will we tell the real protesters from the faux ones? ::)

A couple of things before I must close this thread:

I understand that this may be something that some of you want to do, however I would like to discourage it for several reasons:
I don't want to escalate the problem into an area where we would suffer the enjoyment of Fanime.
I don't want to see them get the media recognition for their zealous behavior.
To publicly acknowledge them would condone their treatment of us.

We all spend a whole lot of money to enjoy this one weekend a year. We come to see our friends, enjoy ourselves, and dress up/cosplay to escape for just a few moments. Why would anyone want to deliberately cost themselves a moment of fun to make a public statement about them and their treatment of us. We are much more understanding of them than they are of us.

I know that Fanime works each year to minimize the situation, but they have a Constitutional Right to stand on the sidewalk and preach, so there are limits as to what can be done. For what ever reason, religious groups have targeted social events to spread the word of God in a fashion they feel is appropriate. Many do it for the media coverage, some to find legal means to sue, and a few others really do it to spread the word of God to those that may need it. For what ever reason this particular group spends it's Memorial Weekend out in front of the San Jose Convention Center I do not know, but I would sincerely hope that we (the cosplaying, fun loving, happy people who need a break from the realities of the world in a place where others can get what we area about) shouldn't reinforce their need to "preach" the word of God. Let's just have fun and be who we are.

If you want to continue this conversation on a forum I would like to suggest using the "protester" thread in the Fanime section of Cosplay.com.
