Jazz, rythms and blues

I would prefer this.

I can make do with the worst J-pop you can muster.

...Actually, I don't really go to the dance, but if you played more jazz and R&B, I probably would.

KPOP!!!!!! Jpop of course, but add in some KPOP! I'd be so happy!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
ESPECIALLY SHOUJO JIDAI/SNSD!!

Play these!!

You absolutely have to play Shoujo Jidai and KARA!!
And SHINee!! You can't forget SHINee, they're going to have a JP debut soon :) And even kpop artists that havent had a JP debut!! They can be included in asian pop eh ;D You allow requests right? hehehehe

I know there's a bunch of people who don't want the electronic dance music, but that music type is what really sells the dance for me. I probably won't be able to go to a rave for a long time, if I ever do. Both my parents and I are paranoid about the drugs and sex side of rave culture. But at the Fanime Dance, I can have my EDM, dark room, and flashy lights without having to worry about the negative side of raves. I get to dance in a safe environment, and my mom doesn't have to worry about me.

(Note: I am in no way trying to say the Dance is a rave. In fact, what I'm trying to say is that it has all the benefits of a rave, but without the negatives. I know that Fanime Dance =/= Rave.)

I do agree that there should be some Asian pop mixed in, as long as it's well done and doesn't ruin the flow.

Why not the original Korean songs? They always sound so much worse in Japanese because it doesn't fit as nicely as the language it was written for. (And they always seem to have really thick accents, haha.)

I like the idea of having blocks of music -- a block of Asian pop, a block of R&B, a block of trance, etc., andpost a schedule ahead of time on when each block will be.You can play more of the most popular genres and sprinkle in other genres during a block, but it would make people happier to not totally exclude  a style of music.

Unless you guys already do this and I just don't pay attention, haha.

There really should be an option to vote in multiple categories...

Aw man, I love beats antique. I've seen them live a couple times in oakland and san diego.

I'm composing a mix to submit for the dj application based on your responses here. How does trance/jpop/kpop/house/top40 mashups sound?

I picked other, meaning= I'd like to hear some music from anime and games. C'mon, its not that hard, just lookup Exit Trance by Exit Tunes for the best in anime trance remixes of modern and older series. I have yet to go to a dance at a con and hear something decent that matches the type of event= being an anime con.

Just sayin it'd be nice to hear some anime music there.

Ooo, that'd be amazing!! I put those up cuz I thought the Japanese versions might be preferred by anime fans ^^

Okay all y'alls,

I just submitted my dj application to the fanime staff. In it, I included an hour and a half mix of all the stuff I'd be willing to spin. I'd like to share that mix here, because this thread guided me in the music selection process (so thanks guys!!!).

You can download the mix here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d3to7v7vs2krm4q

Here's the roadmap of the musical genres that I provided for the staff:

Introduction/final-fantasy trance (0:01-6:40) ->
Anime-trance (12:30-26:00) ->
Anime-house (26:01-37:26) ->
kpop-house (37:28-47:00) ->
kpop/jpop/top 40 mashups (47:20-1:02:30) ->
Hip-Hop/kpop mashups (1:04:00-1:14:30) ->
Finale medley stuff (1:28:00-1:32:15).

Let me know what you think, especially if there are parts you don't like. I'll give you a virtual cookie. (maybe direct message me your response so we don't flood this thread with something off-topic.)

:D

ps- there's a tiny bit of dubstep in there just so I can say I played it. :p

In the beginning, I thought, "This is nice, but not really dance-able. Needs more BPM."  Overall, the first 25 minutes seemed pretty tame. When it picked up around 26:00, I was like "Finally! I could actually dance to this!" At around 47:00, it switched to songs I knew and kind of like, but don't usually listen to on my own time. When it switched to Hip-hop at 1:04:00, you ruined your good streak with me. After about two minutes, I skipped forward to 1:15:00. If I had been in the dance room, I probably would have left at that point. The mix stopped being bothersome, but it never quite redeemed itself after that.

Don't take my critque as the final say on whether or not it's good. I'm aware that my musical tastes differ from other people's. I'm just giving my view on it. Maybe everybody else likes this style. I've only been to Fanime once, and I've only been listening to EDM religiously for around 6 months or so, so I suppose I'm still considered "new." Looking at the poll, I can see why you mixed what you did. Maybe it works for someone out there, but it didn't really have any of my favorite genre.

My verdict:
Flow: A-
Tempo: C+
Content: D
Overall: C
Favorite Part: 26:00 - 47:00

Related to the thread as a whole, here are some samples of what I usually listen to:

Yeah I can't say that I like listening or dancing to hip hop much either, but it's there for the ones who do like it and it's in the mix just to show that I can do it if necessary. And this mix doesn't have any hardcore-- something I should have considered before burning and submitting. I'll practice spinning to more hardcore tracks. This past weekend I was at a house party where this genre was played frequently. Here's your cookie!

I was just going to use this post to spaz over the kpop, but I'll try to make a constructive critique of your DJness like kookiekween did ^^ (haha, you gave kookiekween a cookie)
These are my random thoughts as I'm listening to your mix~

0:00-0:30 were okay, but too slow. I fastforwarded to around 2:00 because I didn't want to go too far and miss anything. It was still eh.. okay.
(3:50) REALLY liking it.
(7:30) HELLO KPOP! It Hurts by 2NE1! The lyrics shattered the creeping mundanity of the instrumental at the perfect time.
yay, Chobits music!
(16:00) I think if I heard this on a dance floor, I'd feel like I was dancing around in a magical place ^^ (Which I love)
This next song I've never heard of, but it sounds REALLY good, esp. in the background!
(19:58) the beat is gorgeous, and so catchy!!
(24:00) The music doesnt mesh with the background music to me.. like someone random is singing over the actual music.
Fast-forwarded to 37:28 from 30:00 because I'm antsy to get to your kpop part ;D
DUUUUUUUDE G-DRAGON HEARTBREAKER AND SNSD GENIE! You rock. So much. T__T
Never heard the next song, it sounds funny :P
(46:42) omg, amazing beat
(52:30ish) lol this might be a bit too much DJing.. it sounded like there were malfunctions with the speaker system
(1:02:00) -facepalm- >__< -gets off dance floor-
fastforwarded to 1:04:00... X[
fastforwarded to 1:07:00.. X[
fastforwarded to 1:08:00 Ooooh! But even though I listen to The Leaders all the time in my car, I honestly don't like to dance to hiphop.. lol if this was Fanime, I'd still be off the dance floor but I'd be spazzing wherever I'm sitting.
Ooo, Follow Me! YG is all over this mix, hahah. still.. I like trance better than hiphop for dancing, even if it's 2NE1 <3 I have to say though, you blend kpop and hip hop REALLY WELL!! O__O It sounds good but not for dancing.
(1:14:58) LOL!!! this song. :P
(1:15:36) Funkyyyy.
(1:17:00) Uhoh, it's boring and repetitive now XD and I dont like the song you mixed it with.
(1:19:00) hahahah, more 2NE1~ But this time I think I can dance to it ^^ this can never be a undanceable song though. it would have been interesting if you mixed it with the english version!
Haha, I expected your ending to be cleverly "DJ, put it back on"
*applause* AWESOME JOB!!

Flow: 8.8
Tempo: 6.8
Content: 7
Overall: 7.5
Favorite Part: 12:30 - 47:00 (lol, is that too broad)

Overall Comments: Youre awesome for incorporating a pretty good amount of kpop ^^ But it sounded like 70% YG artists and 30% other! (The jpop mostly sounded good to me, except that one guy singer.) You should make your main kpop song choice have the diversity of your finale medley :) I heard Sistar, Narsha, miss A, Son Dambi, T-ara, KARA, BoA <3 imo, lose the hiphop/rap. My music scale of love for the dance floor would be: kpop/jpop > trance/electronic > all other pop (gaga, katy perry, ke$ha) > everything else > hiphop/rap :P
Hope this helps ^^
