I am currently making a weapon prop for fanime it is 10.5 inches long. And was wondering what I should make it out of. I'm cosplaying as my own Organization XIII character (he has a a storyline and everything pm me if you'd like to hear about it) He has the element of sound and uses a conducting baton/blade to send powerful soundwaves through his enemies. He can also cause explosions by breaking the sound barrier, but enough of my chitterchatter here's my design!:

Depends on your investment in time and money.

I would probably just make a Wooden base and paper mache it for the cheap/fast route. The paper mache will be hard to smooth out and sand if you use the flour recipe but you can use wood glue instead it to make it sand-able. Foam is an idea but it will be a nightmare with the detailing and really your running out of time with <20 days left :-P

ps.
Getting that peace bonded will be fun - I do not see a place for a zip tie

How thick is it supposed to be? That would help with knowing what kind of materials would be suitable.

I was also going to suggest wood. That would probably be the easiest to get that kind of scrollwork around the edges with. If it is supposed to be rounded, though, and not flat like I'm imagining, maybe a wooden dowel or other long, straight, thin, sturdy object, and then build up paperclay around it? Carving it out of a solid block of foam is also an otion, but as weaponhex said, a rather difficult one. If it is supposed to be flatish and rounded (are the silver-coloured parts supposed to be raised from the purple-coloured parts? or maybe the other way around?), then maybe a combination of a lightweight wood and paperclay, to get both a base structure and the thickness you need? It's a bit difficult to tell from the drawing what the dimensions are.

Actually, a zip-tie would easily fit around the handle or around one of the spikes that is sticking off and has a flared outer end (so it won't slip off -- I'm thinking that one on the bottom). It looks much easier to peace-bond than some props I've seen!
