Lines for the Masquerade?

Sorry if it's been asked before, but I was just wondering how bad the lines for the Masquerade are? How early should you stand in line if you want a reasonably good seat? Are the lines really as bad as some horror stories say (several blocks)? Any help, suggestions, or advice would be really appreciated. C: Thanks!

Depends on how good of a seat you want...and yeah stories about lines reaching several blocks and wrapping around are true. Traditionally I've gotten in line about 2 hours before the masquerade and gone directly to the center balcony area, avoiding the squabble for the deck chairs. This year I've got a gathering at the same time I normally would line up, so I'll be playing it by ear.

I always make sure I get there an hour before seating...and even though the line is insanely huge, i always get a place to sit.  There is a lot of seating inside and im always surprised at how many good seats are still available no matter how far back in the line I get. ^_^

I usually get in line about 2 hours early. For masquerade this year I came 2 hours early and was able to get first row of the upper center deck. For MusicFest, oddly enough, I cam an hour and a half early and was able to get front row floor seats. I was however, alone, so I found the last single seat. I would suggest at about 2 and a half hours prior to the vent, looking out the window and seeing if the line reaches around the block or not. I aim to get in line before it breaks off at the parking spots, and at maximum the tech museum.

what are considered the good seats? I came in at 6:45pm and found seats in 4th row from the front and half of the row was empty. I don't understand what specific seats people are standing in line for.

Thanks everyone for your input! My sister ended up not going to the Masquerade this year (she was manning her Artist Alley table) but your feedback was really helpful all the same! ^^ I was in one of the skits, so I got to sit in the front and watch as people filed in... it seemed really calm and orderly, not at all like the mad scramble for seats that I was expecting. And the auditorium really is big, people seemed to have no trouble finding seats. :D
