Obviously, with panel reg not up yet, we're not confirmed, but my sister One and I are aiming to run three fanfic workshops again this year. For 2012, these were Fanfic 101 (the basics), Fanfic 201 (characters, OCs, Mary Sues, villains), and the 18+ only Fanfic 369 ('how do I sex scene?') We're probably going to run the same formula this year, though as always suggestions for material are welcome.

Not sure at this point whether or not we're going to have a third revision of our Fanfic Writing Guide packet. There's some stuff we'd like to expand on for it, especially on the subjects of handling canon characters in fanfic, AU fanfiction and crossovers. If we need to print more packets, then we'll probably revise it. If we've still got enough from the 2012 print run, we'll probably just use those again.

We will definitely be aiming to do the adult fanfiction panel again, though after our experiences last year, the panel description will probably have to include "Now with more tentacles!" ;)

SCHEDULED!
Fanfiction 101: Friday 7PM - 8PM (Panels 4)
Fanfiction 201: Saturday 1PM - 2PM (Panels 4)
Fanfiction 369 (18+ only):  Sunday 9PM - 10PM (Panels 1)

Looking forward to Fanime! :D

EDIT- POST-FANIME UPDATE - 5/27
Wow, had a blast with all three panels this year! If anybody has some additional feedback to share, floor's open!

And we're submitted for this year! Fingers crossed on the timeslots we're asking for! XD Format is going to be the 101, 201, and 369 like we had last year. Jury is still out on a third revision of the packet, but leaning toward 'no' due to school and cosplay construction time constraints.

So we've heard back and got our timeslots. For once we DON'T have one at dark 'o thirty in the morning! ;)

Fanfiction 201: Saturday 1PM - 2PM (Panels 4)
Fanfiction 369 (18+ only):  Sunday 9PM - 10PM (Panels 1)

Awesome! Antagonist characters are one of the things we spend a decent chunk of time on in the 201 panel; a lot of fic authors have trouble cooking up really good bad guys. :D

Almost that time! Gotta run off some more of the writers' guide packets though; our supply was down to about 40. ;)

Just hope that being in Panels 4 doesn't make it hard to find the 101 and 201 panels. >_<

Starting to wind down from the convention, and had a blast with all three panels! Being over in the Fairmont in Panels 4 apparently did not hamper our attendance so far as we could tell! If anybody got some additional comments, please feel free to share- and here's my breakdown:

Fanfiction 101: I think One and I are really getting our groove and our material down for this, though some material we didn't get the time to talk much about because of the audience participation and discussion. That's cool, I'd rather focus on stuff the attendees have questions about than try to run through our entire outline. Thinking there are some topics from 101 that could be developed into separate spinoff panels sometime in the future.

Fanfiction 201: Really, really good audience back-and-forth, though I felt we got sidetracked off the topic of characters a bit much by the side discussion of language use in fanfic. That is something better served by a some other writing panel. The discussion did get pretty sidetracked at a few points (specific wording of Murphy's Law, anybody? ;) ) but for the most part really good audience participation, and a lot of fun to host.

Fanfiction 369: Holy crap, we packed the room?!?  :o Completely blown away by the turnout for the 18+ panel- did staff end up cutting the line off or were we able to get everybody into the room that wanted to attend? I don't know, didn't think to ask. Aside from the trio of disruptive drunks that con staff helpfully ejected from the panel, I think this one was crazy successful. I know sex is one of those really awkward topics, maybe even moreso as it applies to writing about it, but it seemed like folks got a lot out of it, and some really good audience participation.

Overall/notes for next year: Gotta work on the Writing Guide Ver. 3.0- One wants to really expand on the stuff about creating characters, and I wouldn't mind bulking up the world building and Crossover/AU material. We could probably stand to expand stuff on point-of-view and action scene writing, too. Definitely need to make up a separate packet for the 18+ panel, maybe call it the Writer's Guide to Sexual Anatomy (or "The Quickie Guide")

Also thinking of adding and applying for a 4th panel, tentatively called Fanfiction 120: Controversies in Fanfic. Material for that would focus on the legal murk surrounding fanfic, shipping in fic, language use in fic, and other such subjects that tend to spark arguments. Of course, all this is still in the vague idea phase, we'll see how things look once everyone's slept off the convention hangover. ;)
