I gotz email!

It was my first time submitting a video to this competition too, although I'm not new to making AMV's. It's been like 3 years and 10 videos to my name.
But yeah, no winners at other conventions that I submitted too. I'm still nervous though, cuz I entered in the action category and I'm sure I'm up
against some other stellar videos. So good luck everyone, and thanks.

Aw, I'm sorry. I'm sure you'll get in next year! :D

In the meanwhile, I'm pretty sure you still get to join the other editors in the editor-only pre-seating, so we'll see you there! :)

That's right! I think I will be able to get access, since I believe some people who entered are out of state and won't be able to attend Fanime. Does anyone know if we are allowed to bring in a friend with us? Literally one friend?

I've brought multiple friends with me before. Usually there's more seating set aside for editors than necessary, and in recent years editors can basically sit wherever they like. Sometimes there's an area marked off for editors, but you don't HAVE to sit there. As they get closer to the end of general seating they let non-editors join the editor seating area. So one friend should be juuust fine. :D

I've always brought my friends with me to the showings, and I've never had an issue with it. The only time I ever remember sitting apart was back in 2010 during my first contest because I didn't know they could sit with me. They ended up sitting very close though.

To those of you who have gone to the showings in previous years, How many people usually watch the show?

Mr Matthew;

The show is on 2 days in 2 neighboring rooms. Friday tends to be the day with less viewers and the second room usually has less folks than the 1st. That being said, Friday has maybe on average 60-70% of each room full. Saturday is nuts since con population is higher on Saturdays. The 1st room often becomes 100% full with people lined up against walls and sitting around the projector; the 2nd room is always less full, but probably more full than it is on Fridays.

I don't know what the capacity on these 2 rooms are, but they're about average viewing room size. If you really want to see the best audience reaction and can only come on one day, come on Saturday and avoid room 2. I don't know why, but the second room tends to be kind of dead. Minimal applause and practically no reaction to comedy. It's kind of weird since the other room is overflowing with energy and excitement.

Hi everyone,
All the emails have gone out as of tonight! If you submitted something and haven't gotten something back, please let us know asap! Also, congrats to all of our finalists! This year was exceptionally tough as the level of entries got so much better across the board. Those of you who didn't make it this year should still be proud as well.

The Judge's Panel had nothing but great reviews on all of them. Unfortunately, we had to cut almost 5 hours of worth of entries into a 2 hour show! We tried out best to include as many as possible in this year's show. In fact, just a heads up if you're at the show, we got approval to go about 10 minutes past our original allotted time once we showed them how good this years videos were. I wish we could get more time for all of you. Again, with out all of you, we have no show and we appreciate all of your hard work!

I will be posting the official line up in a new post just like last year. You should all be very proud!

Agreed. We won't be there this year, but I will make sure that the staff running the seating will take care of our editor's like in previous years.

Yow! 5 Hours worth?! That's amazing. Sounds like the show will be really good this year.

Looking forward to the numbers, too. :D

I'm a bit confused - so if they show it in two rooms, does everyone get to see all the same videos?

Tsu

Yep! They play the same list in both rooms. It's played in 2 rooms to make sure that everyone who wants to see it can, since it's a big event. (It used to play across the street @ the concert hall.)

They do play the categories in different order in each room, though. This is to prevent an audio lag-echo from coming through the wall and messing up the experience.

I was pretty weird hearing my video in the other room one year. I had to fight the urge to dash over and see it, but I didn't want to be disrespectful to the entries that were currently on the screen in my room.

It's going to be EXTRA hard this year though since mine is a comedy entries and seeing how people react to your video is pretty vital.

Hey, I hate to point fingers, but I was looking through your amvs on animemusicvideos.org and it would seem that one of your AMVs, namely "Unseen Hearts", has parts stolen from one of my own amvs.  I looked through them frame by frame just to confirm, and I am 100% confident that you have stolen parts.

The problem with this is, the amv that you stole from, "Chuunibyou - If I Had You" aka "Leather and Skirt", is a finalist in this very contest.
Unseen Hearts: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_vidpreview.php?v=191004
Leather and Skirt: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_vidpreview.php?v=190847

I will now list the parts in your video that you have stolen, for others to confirm as well:
Unseen Hearts                          Leather and Skirt

3:24 - 3:30                           2:44 - 2:51
17 EXACT same short clips in a row, all you did to change it was zoom in.

3:34 - 3:35                           2:54 - 2:55
2 clips, hand clip to sunglasses
http://youtu.be/-Md_eg5NaYQ?t=3m33s       http://youtu.be/1ArWgZuoB7g?t=2m54s
3:36 - 3:38                           3:13 - 3:15
3 clips, same order, you changed by zooming first clip

3:38 - 3:41                           2:10 - 2:13
run turn, to defocus radial blur

As I am ABSOLUTELY Flattered that you felt the need to steal clips from my VERY FIRST AMV, I am extremely angry that you are participating in the Finals in the same category, "action", as myself.

I Only hope that the AMV that you have submitted to this contest was not made in the same way, by ripping off other peoples hard work.

*EDIT: It would seem that "RADX888" has deleted his youtube video, and will proceed to delete his video off of animemusicvideo as well.
Unfortunately for him, I downloaded it already and have others as witnesses.

Good job. I also downloaded the video last night figuring that'd probably happen. :/

I'm glad you caught this. I hope it's resolved the best way possible.

Thanks, If he hadn't posted on this forum, I never would have known.  I also found out that he submitted videos to Anime-Expo and informed them as well.
While looking through his profile, i spotted a peculiar journal entry:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/journal/default.php?mid=997923
Mix of the best parts
So since none of my videos have ever made it into finals for contests (or for that matter been very popular). One of my friends suggested to me that I use the best parts of my past AMV's and put them together in a new video. Which does sound like a decent idea but if people didn't like my video's before, why would anyone like to see the same video re-used? Of course I would use an entirely new sound track, and edit the video in a new way. But I don't have any other current ideas for new video's and honestly the average member on here that isn't associated with a studio is better than me. Is it worth a shot or a chance? Hmmmm beats me...

After reading that, It kinda made sense that he would use other peoples AMVs for his own.

Bm-Atticus

I took my time watching both videos and comparing them and yeah, that's some pretty damming evidence. Wow... I can't imagine if someone did that with my videos. Makes me glad I've never deleted any of the project files for AMVs I've submitted to contests.

Well at least both Fanime and AX have this person's information. I don't know about Fanime but as far an AX is concerned he might be banned permanently from their competition.

I'm sorry this happened to you! I hope this does get dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Gaki

Chucking in my vote with matthewgutz's side. Watched the videos myself last night with the worry that I wouldn't be able to tell exactly what was taken and what wasn't, but it was clear as day. The list with the changes/non-changes matched exactly with the timing that was provided. Many of the changes/non-changes were so painfully obvious it hurt, like the mask to the character with an eyepatch while another is riding a bike into the night.

Managed to grab a copy of the vid for evidence as well if need be. Also saved the page for the video information if he pulls it down from AMVs.org. I can provide both if needed.

Just saying as another editor (I wanted to enter this year, but chose not to so I could focus on my finals), this sort of behavior is disgraceful, and if Vlad gets wind of this I wouldn't surprised if we never see another video make it to the finals in almost any con from this editor again. Sorry you've had your editing and footage ripped off, gonna re-iterate Bm-Atticus and hope that this gets dealt with quickly.

Even if Vlad doesn't get involved, this guy has pretty much dropped off the face of the planet. I was trying to find his youtube account (which he deleted) and came across his twitter instead. I went to go grab some dinner and when I came back the account was gone.

Luckily he submitted to Anime-expo, where it was required to give them your full name, address, and phone number lol

I'd forgotten about that. Welp, yeah, that's kind of put a dead stop to his entries, unless he goes through someone else.

Part of me feels bad, but I'm more mad. You don't blatantly steal (a lot of) footage like that and claim it to be your own. That's not right in any sort of way, and I am glad this is getting out in the open. Does make me wonder if you're not the only person who's had their work taken - a lot of his footage did look spotty early on in the video.
