Reasons for Early Hotel Registration?

Just curious as to why Fanime is opening its hotel registration early.

Usually large cons don't open hotel registration until 3-4 months before the actual con. Even Comic-Con doesn't open its hotel registration until March or April. Do the hotels in San Jose want registration to happen already so they can accommodate the numbers?

Nope, we just like to give our attendees options and the ability to plan. Most of the hotels already have those dates blocked off. Those that manage to snag the few rooms open for public sale will not be getting the convention rate.

It sounds like who ever was put in charge this time said "get this thing going! Chop, chop!"

It used to be normal for things to start this early. For the last few years reg and hotel had been starting later and later, so it's really nice to see everything coming together on time.

I think it's great that things are happening earlier, but can we please get the hotel list and pricing info right away?  Without that information, it's hard to find roommates and plan accordingly.  I definitely want to have a plan in place before the housing goes live, so I can be sure to nab a room before they're all gone!

I agree, I'd love the hotel info list before booking. I usually plan my hotel based of the previous years info, but up to date is always better so I can organize my group.

Same here. I might not be able to register myself so I'll be having a friend do it and It'd be nice to know what to tell them...

I went through SO MUCH trouble last year to reserve a hotel and had to struggle to get one! The website to reserve a hotel CONSTANTLY crashed! Many attendees were very angry that they couldn't get the hotel they wanted! I remember you guys had a good idea by adding a number system to restrict the limit on how people can reserve hotels. I and many others thought it was a brilliant idea as it would also prevent bots from reserving hotels or so the staff say. But then suddenly that idea was rejected and people had to deal with the constant crashing? Try the phone number line? Yeah I tried that during the hotel registration rush hour and do you know what happened whenever I tried calling the number? It was either to busy, or led me to another service like a plumbing one...

I've been going to Fanime for 7 years and never in my life I had to deal with this crap! Trust me I am by no means a troll but I am very upset for for the past few years on how fanime did. This year's Fanime got a fair amount right and it's act together but there are PLENTY of things they could have worked on!

Fanime I love you but I ain't gonna sugar-coat everything if I believe something needs to be fixed. And these are the things I want.

1. Make hotel registering LESS stressful!

2.Bring BETTER and more well known guests!

3. BETTER communication with your fans! The communication on facebook was horrible and I felt the staff was completely oblivious and didn't care for their attendees.

and 4. LISTEN TO YOUR ATTENDEES ON WHAT THEY WANT!!!

I am glad you guys are at least getting things right by having registration and hotel planning set real early. 2014 was the right step but it still left me fairly unsatisfied. I am going to do my best and attend 2015. The official website is finally up unlike how it took a MONTH before the convention started to get up.

Once again I love you Fanime. I just only hope you'll do even better next year.

Hoping this goes smoothly and that people don't experience as many problems as this year.

My group already booked a room earlier this year. Yes, it's without Fanime discounts, but our group leader didn't want to risk waiting for actual housing to open, so he took care of it early on.

Thanks for your comments. We are looking to improve the process everywhere. We appreciate your comments and are aware of them. The link of hotel booking to memberships is promising, but it is a complex process that we need to work out. We are taking active steps to address the issues, but as easy as it seems to change things in one year, there are multi-year issues that sometimes make us less flexible than we would like to be. Thank you for your patience.
