Hi!

So... Third year at Fanime, first year booking a hotel!
I managed to get a room at the Hyatt Place for me and my friends, but I only realized afterwards that I'm technically not old enough to book it..?
I'm 17 (but I got stuck with booking because I'm basically planning this trip for our group), and my friends are all 18. None of our parents can stay with us for the con, so I'm a bit worried about how the hotel will take it.

I have my own card, so that's fine, but I'm just worried about if they'll take us? I've searched online and found some cases where hotels have let kids stay on their own after their parents confirmed it and agreed to be responsible for any consequences, but does anybody have any insight on how the San Jose Hyatt staff will take this?

I think if you have the means to pay you can legally rent a room as long as there is no alcohol supplied in the room or a casino. most hotels that have the 21 and over policy is because they have mini bars in rooms and to limit their liability regarding that

Yeah that's a tough spot. I would call the hotel and get a diffinte answer. Option B would be to ask your parents to check you in. They don't need to stay with you the entire time. You can petty much check your self out.
Not your typical anime junkie.

They won't let you do it if you're under 18. Best option would be to see if you can transfer the hotel room into the name of one of your friends who is 18+. They don't really care who pays for it, but the name on the room has to belong to an "adult". So, I'd give them a call for sure. :D

Or make sure they listed at least one of the roommates (that are over 18) in the itinerary and they can check in instead.

Thanks guys!

I called a few days ago and was told that as long as my dad calls the hotel directly before then, and takes responsibility for the room under his card and name, we should be fine. And because all of my roomies are over 18, haha.

Thanks again!  :D
