Is the con 24 hours? I've visited at like 3am and there is still people walking around inside, and a bunch of people are outside still too. Is the dance 24hrs? Are hotel parties a common thing? How crazy does the con get? Tell me 1st hand experiences of the craziest thing you've ever seen. I think I've noticed that every year it seems to get less and less sleep, which I really like.

this will be my 2nd time at fanime so DONT take my word as 100% truth.
but I beleive the video game/card game room is 24 hour,
the dance goes pretty late, I think last time saturday we were there till like 4-5am
and then we went to a couple different hotels for drinks and stuff.
We ended up staying up till 7am (only to have a gathering at 10) lol

Theres gonna be stuff going on 24 hours all over man haha

The only part of the con that's 24 hrs is the game room and I believe the video rooms. There dealers room and artist alley shuts down usually around 8pm or 9pm (not 100% sure on actual time). However there's always people wondering around because the convention center is still open and people are still welcome to take pictures and what not. The dance isn't 24 hours it starts around 9pm I believe (have yet to attend). Depends on your definition of crazy because it does get fairly crowded during the day time and the line for MusicFest starts pretty early Saturday morning. This will be the 2nd year my friends and I have a hotel room and we decided to stay in the hotels even though we live in SJ because you get the full experience also late at night sometimes you have fans who have like little sing along sessions on convention floors or you get to see unique cosplays that have been worn specifically only for night time (like tron). So far I've only met very friendly and welcoming people which is why I like fanimecon. If you want more specifics on times the best source of reference would be your guide that you get when you pick up your badge, fanime website has some information on times, but not all.

Karaoke runs from 2PM to 2AM this year. I feel like it ended later in previous years?

Certainly, there is plenty to do at night if you are a night owl. Video rooms, gaming, dances, karaoke, etc. Is Stage Zero 24h? Unofficial activities also take place, like room parties, drinking at bars, or even just hanging out in the halls. You'll always see at least a few groups of people at 3AM playing Cards Against Humanity or other games at the large round tables on the Marriott side of the concourse, as well as people sitting on the floor. If you want to stay up, you can easily find something to do.

Though, I recommend getting at least some sleep. :] I haven't been out at the con between around 4~7AM, but between 7~9 or 10AM it's pretty slow, except for things like video rooms. I think most people are sleeping off their late nights at that point. You can always take short naps during the day, too.

I feel like it did too! That's not even later than closing time. I love watching people who've obviously finished hitting the downtown bars come back to the con and belt out a few numbers completely dunk. Is there a mod who's an organizer who try to change this?

Thank you all for your replies, if anyone wants to comment on here about how much they wish the karaoke was 24/7 they totally should. Also, please share more epic stories!

At last years con I walked out of the bathroom and saw this couple HEAVILY making out, the guy was right on top of the girl with his shirt off, 2nd base, grinding, and everything, people formed for the hentai line around and they didn't even notice. I think I saw them like that about 10 more time that weekend... in the main lobby, outside on the steps, in front of a different bathroom, probably horny from all the ecstasy and whatever else they were on. It was really wild.

Why does that downstairs room with all of the ropes (like the use in movie theater concession lines) never get any use? Is it just used for people to get their passes on the 1st day?

Also why is Hayao Miyazaki not at this years con? I personally am outraged and disgusted they did not think to book him. He's a pretty big deal.

Imperial

the room with the ropes is Registration.

and you can make a request thread after con for next year's convention.

There could be several possible reasons for this. I'll bullet point them. I'm not making this to start an argument, but only because you've asked several times and I think you should have a serious response. (I am not staff, so these are only possibilities, rather than facts).

  • To my knowledge he's only visited one American convention, SDCC. Unless Fanime becomes as large as Comic Con (it's nowhere near that right now), it's highly unlikely that a guest of Miyazaki's caliber would be attainable.
  • Miyazaki alone would probably take up the entire guest budget.
  • The man is the biggest name in Japanese animation. His schedule would probably be difficult to work with in order to get him here.
  • From what I've read, he doesn't like attention. Being a headlining guest at a convention doesn't deter attention.
  • I doubt Fanime has connections to secure someone like him. Relationships must be built with the right people, first.
  • Where would they put him for panels/autographs? It's guaranteed that his appearance would add to the amount of attendees that go just to see him, and I don't know if there is a venue to suit that amount of people

There are probably many more viable reasons why it isn't possible/practical at this time to invite him. I'd love the chance to see him, too, but I'm not holding high hopes of it happening any time soon. And for all we know, they have tried inviting him and have either been turned down or were met with no response.

What are you using? Chrome on android doesn't want to scroll for me at all, using Chrome on a desktop requires I click on the scrollbar and move it to get it to scroll.

In particular, the events page: http://www.fanime.com/events/

I almost exclusively use Chrome on my android phone and computers (Mac and PC). All of them scroll like normal without having to manually drag anything on that page.
