Hello all,

We are a group looking to debut our panel, Animemes: Anime Memes and You! We have submitted our panel idea, and are waiting on the results from Fanimecon. In the meantime, we were hoping to use this thread as a means to gauge interest as well as provide feedback on our panel.

The official panel description will be as follows:

What do you get when you cross anime with memes? Animemes! Explore the latest and greatest in anime meme production, proliferation, and consumption!

The internet is becoming more and more relevant in our day-to-day lives. Social media has shaped the worlds of many people, and as self-identified nerds or geeks or fans (of anything) the internet has enabled us to connect with like-minded individuals on a scale never before experienced by mankind. With the web allowing more and more fans to share their love for their culture more than ever, it becomes essential to understand the vehicles and devices underlying the global advancement of anime and fan culture. We will focus on examining and critiquing the ways and means in which memes have shaped online as well as offline fan tastes, opinion, and dialogue. Join us as we talk anime, memes, and how they relate to you!

That said, our panel format and content would be as follows:

We plan to first present a brief history of memes in online fan culture. We will then transition into the ways social networks and public forums have adopted memes in the context of anime and fan culture. We plan to explore how these memes have shaped and molded both the population as well as the dialogue of anime and other fan communities. We will examine and analyze case studies in which memes have used to greatly influence specific fandoms, and we will determine general ideas and formulas on how meme culture can be used to describe and categorize different fan communities.

Animemes: Anime Memes and You! is designed to be a fairly interactive fan panel, allowing the hosts and guests to freely communicate and exchange ideas for the purpose of learning more about the topic we will be discussing.

Our panel would examine and use family-friendly content, however we do expect the academic nature of our conversation to appeal to older fans. This would be a brand new panel, but we are confident in our research and approach to its design.

Please let us know if you would be interested in attending our panel at Fanime 2017. We are also looking for feedback and any other suggestions you may have. Are there any specific topics or cases that you would like for us to explore? Please let us know!

Thank you for your help and support.

4/6/17 EDIT: Animemes: Anime Memes and You! will be debuting on Friday (technically Saturday) night at 12:00am-1:00am.
Please join us!
