I'd like to know some of the best Sailor Moon parodies they have out there, as well as some of the worst.

I ask because I love the series, and wanted to write a play parodying it out of said love, set in America and featuring the heroic superheroes of the Promenade Club: and someone more knowledgeable than I on such matters looked at the first draft and said it was so bad she'd MST it in a second.  It wasn't fresh enough or silly enough to sustain her interest.

Now, I read a LOT of shoujo.  But I haven't read many parodies of the magical girl sentai genre.  Wedding Peach I should probably see, Papillion Rose I'm SCARED to see.  Are there any other SM parodies you would recommend... or bad parodies as examples of what to avoid you'd like to inflict on someone?  I need to learn the cliches - what works and what DOESN'T.

Thank you for your time.

First of all, I wouldnt really call them parodies.

Parody: n, A literary or artistic work that broadly mimics an author's tyle and holds it up to ridicule. 2) A highly inferior imitation.

A parody is something that purposely and blatantly copies something else for the purpose of comedy, or making fun of the original.

Wedding Peach is not a parody of Sailormoon, though it was almost surely inspired by it. What I think you mean to ask is "What are some other anime in the same genre as Sailormoon?" (which would be magical girl) or, if you want to be even more exact, "What are some other magical girl sentai anime, like Sailormoon or Wedding Peach?"

NOW I can answer your question ^^

With a little digging, sentai shojou are a dime a dozen, espiceally if you broaden your definition a little bit. The trick is finding one thats worth your while. If you want something VERY sailormoon like, with a bit less comedy and a little more shojou, you'd be interested in Tokyo Mew Mew. Its not as mature *cough* as Sailormoon (IE: It seems to target a slightly younger audience) but its still really good, and loses a little of the sillyness in favor of a much higher romance level. Basic premise, five girls get animal powers and have to save the world from aliens.

If you want something a little less magical and a little more.......something else, you may or may not be interested in Galaxy Angel (the anime. I havent been exposed to the games or manga yet, though I do know that theyre very different.) Its about five girls who are in a branch of the military called, oddly enough, Galaxy Angel, and their mission is to find pieces of some "lost technology" or other. But they dont always have a mission, so sometimes theyre called on to do odd jobs (like find lost cats or deliver a package or be a bodyguard.) Zany hijinks and hilarity ensue (with the occasional serious episode thrown in for flavor.) Be warned, though. After the first three episodes (each of which are fifteen miniutes long) there is *NO* continuity from episode to episode. Each episode is independent and has no bearing on anything, in the end. Sometimes they leave you at a cliffhanger, and even then, whatever happened is solved by the next episode and everything is back to normal. Very fun, very funny.

Finally, if youre not dead set on the sentai subgenre, you may want to check out the much broader shoujou subgenre of Magical Girls in general. These are easy to find, and to start off I'd reccomend something like Cardcaptor Sakura, or for something a little older, you might want to try Kaitou Saint Tail (Mysterious Thief Saint Tail.) Just to start off.

Anyway, I hope Ive ben of some help, happy watching! ^^

How about the Sailor Moon Doom II video game?  Does it count as a parody?  No romance unfortunately XD

I forgot but there was this audio sailor moon parody someone did before.
And there's Senshi on Springer (AMV)

But heh. I'm really not into sailor moon and I completley blocked everthing that has maybe even a hint of Sailor-moon ish style.

:P Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne is like Sailor Moon. Marron, the main character is like a smart Usagi Tsukino. You could probably get away with switching characteristics of ppl. Like... give Ami-chans intelligence to Venus and see what happens. Mina needs all she can get. :P You could also give Chibi-usa's assertiveness to like... Rei.

Sailor Moon Stupid was a 4-part radioplay parody.  Hilarious stuff, IMO.

Yes!  Sailormoon Stupid!  The original site shut down, but if you really want to listen to the files, I could upload them to my site for you; I have all four episodes.
