Ever Felt the Need to Punch a License?

Well, as the title says, was there ever a time where a series was licensed and the effect was drastic? For example, what if the highly acclaimed Honey & Clover was licensed right before the LAST EPISODE? How would you feel then? In my case, I'm bothered that Shakugan no Shana got licensed a bit early...oh well... Imma go buy that anime series regardless.
Here's a list of anime's that got licensed too soon imo:

Tsubasa Chronicles (what? I like the series...)
Shakugan no Shana (god I loved this series... ten episodes in a day. TEN!)
Naruto (no offence but Cartoon Network is doing a helluva BAD job)
Chrno Crusade (I think this got licensed early. I forgot).

That's it for now. There are some exceptions though. I feel that it's all cool when a good company licenses the anime aka Gainax or something. I'm not sure about Geneon but it's all good...sometimes...

I don't know about most people, but I'm genuinely happy whenever a series is licensed.  I've been around long enough to remember the pure drought of licensed titles and the only alternative: VHS fansubs.  Compared to those times, I'd take the current market and the cornucopia of licensed material anyday.  I still respect the original fansub purpose: to increase awareness of titles, with the hope that they'll be licensed.  Sure, I suppose there's a part of me that may go "man, I wanted to watch more of that series and now I'll have to wait forever to finish," but that's just a momentary selfishness and I can deal with it.  Besides, I'll take the superior A/V quality anyday.

Eh. I never really cared about this. If they licence an anime, I think I'd rather be on the "yay" side. And I think you support studios somewhat when you do this right?

I'm agreeing more to tsubasa on this subject D:

I understand what you're saying but I'll have to agree with Tsubasa as well.

As much as we may like being able to get fansubs, it's good for them to get liscenced. I remember back in my 50k days, I was only able to get anime after they were liscenced.  Also, sales here help the industry.

Even though they make my wallet cry. >.>

I dont really hate "early" licensing or licensing in general, rather it makes me upset when it's done poorly (I.E. bad dubs, off syncs or poor marketing). If Im going to spend my hard earned money on this product it should be made worthwhile.

yea i don't like the crap quailty that is dished out...T_T this industry is gaining a lot of steam now...and only a few of these series that are brought over are worth what lack of money i have...i mean they are totally not filling a dvd with 4 eps and special extra pictures...I doubt that is all they can fit...and yet sell for 20+ bucks each?...i found more enjoyment in buying cd's imported from japan...lol for almost 40 bucks or less...

i think if they just made a subs only version for half prices i would totally buy it...

Technically, they could make the disc double-layered and toss on something like eight episodes, but that's just not smart in a pure $ to episode ratio.  It has been proven time and time again that people will buy domestic anime releases at a $30 price point.  Thankfully, over the years, they've increased the episode count by one or two.  I remember when about three was the norm.  Four seems to be the average episode count now and it's not unusal to get five here and there.

I remember buying Galaxy Fraulein Yuna subbed on VHS at $30 for each 30 minute episode.  Ouch.

I was EXTREMELY aggravated when Ah! My Goddess (TV) got licensed about 5 episodes into it.  Hell, I nearly cried.  I enjoyed the series SO much, and it just annoyed me.  Why did they license it, anyway? AMG was never extremely popular.

And at the same time, I mock the fact that the industry fails to license the intensely popular stuff.  Naruto took a long time to be licensed, and Bleach, 60-some-odd episodes into the series, still hasn't been.  Anyone who put an ear to the ground, an eye to a monitor or a foot into a convention center would realize: BLEACH IS POPULAR.  LICENSE NOW FOR TEH MONIES.  Yet it hasn't happened.  I'm not complaining that it hasn't been licensed, as that would make my watching it more difficult, but it is rather stupid.

Mostly?  I just get annoyed when things are licensed because that means I have to wait about two years to see the first season of a show I could have otherwise gotten through in about 26 weeks, straight off the Japanese market.  I've gotten spoiled by the interweb and fansubbers and I just don't want to wait that long.

Is anyone besides me pissed off that ADV licensed the R2 (Rise R to The Second Power) manga and totally forgot about it after the first book?

Took them a year and a half (plus?) to finally finish the localization of volume one of Haré+Guu. :P

Yeah, exactly.  I haven't been paying a ton of attention to the localization since I'm in no rush to see the series, but I'm aware of the series and kept seeing animenation have to change their page about when it was actually going to be released.     That was what I was worried would happen with things like Ah! My Goddess, but even as it is, Japan's starting up season 2 of AMG in the spring and we haven't even seen the release of volume 3 of the first season DVDs yet. -_-

I guess part of the problem is that if they only subbed, it'd take less time... but still... *sigh*

This is why you need to study hard and get those jobs those people are getting. They aren't getting those jobs cos they love anime, trust me! Dominate the industry here! FORCE your way into it! Make your voice heard!!!!

I felt the need to SHOOT the licencers. Some times they f@#$ up with the anime, I would rather watch with the Japenese voice actors with subs. I sometimes like it when they licence some animes though, because they make it easier to get than to download the anime. They totally F#$% up with the Naruto series and even though the series had stupid fillers, it was a pretty good series overall.

Okay I don't really have that much of a problem with anime being licensed but I have seen some crap that was released dubbed after seeing it in it's good Japanese form. Ex: Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor moon were 2 animes that I watched and then they cut and edited it way too much.

And Gravitation. I saw it first in Japanese and loved it but then when it was licensed by Right Stuff they messed it up a lot and did horrible same sounding voices for every character and with no expression too!

Cloudzero

Personally, for anime, it doesn't matter as much as manga if they release these anime unedited and with the original Japanese on DVD anyway. Just gotta wait and be patient.

Now for manga... yeah, I can't really stand those. I dislike edits that censor up a series that isn't meant to be "all ages" anyway or ones that compromise the story.

Oh, yes.  I hate it when they 'localize' manga, too.  I'd rather stumble through Azumanga not understanding half the puns and jokes than having an Americanized version of it. I really, REALLY hate that.  It's kept me from reading the majority of the manga.  Osaka with a Bronx accent or whatever it is (It's been a while) is just unforgivable.

How in the heck are you supposed to localize Azumanga?
