I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on how I should tackle making Arlong's teeth from One Piece. That's the only part I'm have trouble with...for now. XD

Does anyone know any good tutorial sites for sewing leather/ faux leather, or even polyester?
My Cosplay next year is in need for a few leather parts, but I've never worked with that sort of fabric before. OTL
I'm either going to make this look perfect, or not do it at all!
My dad is helping me with the metal/plastic parts, as he's a mechanic. (Lucky me, LOL)

Not so much site suggestions, but I can speak from experience sewing barstool-weight vinyl (eep!).

1. Get a rolling foot for your machine. They are usually not horribly expensive, and you will not have to suffer fabric sticking.
2. Leather needles, even if you sew fake stuff.  In some cases needles are needles, but I had better luck with not breaking leather needles.
3. Do flat-felled seams wherever you can. It's just sturdier and keeps the fabric from doing weird rolls. Think of the difference between an ironed seam and one that isn't ironed.  And ooh, here's a howto! http://sewing.about.com/od/techniques/ss/flatfelled.htm

I've never sewn gloves before, and I need to make a pair for my Ulala (Space Channel 5) cosplay... out of vinyl. Any suggestions or patterns? I'm at a bit of a loss. I haven't looked into buying a pair, but I doubt that elbow-length orange vinyl gloves would be easy to find (and if I could, they probably wouldn't match very well with the rest of my costume!).

For reference.

Thanks!

You may want to check the cosplay.com site to see if anyone has advice about making Arlong's teeth.  (I'm surprised you did not ask for advice on making his nose and can hardly wait to see your outfit if you come to Fanime in 2010!)

If you intend to keep your mouth closed, maybe you can get those mouth guards for sports and draw or etch the lines of the teeth on them?  Or take the mouth guards (I'm not sure what they're made of, but I know of some that you put in hot water to soften, and then wear to mold to the shape of your teeth) and perhaps try cutting out the sharp teeth from the front section of each guard.  If you only cut out in the front area, maybe the side portions and back can be used to help hold the guard in place...

Or if you were fortunate enough to be at a Halloween/Spirit store during the sales and purchased several pairs of fangs, you might have been able to use those (10 pairs?) on each tooth?

I think I saw someone last year give the appearance of having fanged or sharp teeth by adding some black coloring some kind directly onto the sides of each tooth.

Does anyone have any references pics from Ouran High School Host Club? I'm trying to see how to get my hair to look like Mori's

Lady Saru

...An odd question.

Where could one find black men's trousers with a 24"-26" waist, for someone who is 5' 5"?

I have been looking through so many things, but thrift stores tend to only have giant pants unless you look in boys', but then they are too short.

If you've already checked department stores, you might have to check shops that rent bridal/formal wear.  Sometimes they have jackets and pants on sale from previous rentals.  It'll cost you more than thrift stores probably, but if that doesn't work, then I suggest sewing (or finding someone who can sew) a pair.

I want to cosplay this character (Jubia)

http://www.renders-graphiques.fr/image/upload/normal/render_jubia_by_DoDo94.png

and I can't find a exact pattern for the tank top like vest she's wearing and I got this instead.

But I am not exactly sure how to alter patterns like this to something the character is wearing.
Especially this one, the back is full whereas the character one is something like a camisole.

Or any other pattern that is even closer?
Any Ideas please?

The one suggestion I can offer you is to look at halter top patterns instead of vest patterns. The vest pattern you have chosen will put a seam over the breast area that doesn't appear on the image you submitted. I didn't see the back of the character so I couldn't determine if there was a center back seam or a pleat with straps, which most vest patterns will have.

By looking into spring and summer top patterns you will most likely get a more accurate pattern with less alterations, especially in the strap area. You will most likely need to add length and adjust your button holes to include more and holes on both sides so you can lace it up.

If determining length is an issue you don't like to tackle, try looking at summer dress patterns. A suggestion I would like to add is that if you combine patterns to help you try to use the same brand of pattern instead of two different ones until you get comfortable altering patterns.

Another suggestion is to make a basic mock pattern and scrap material large enough or an old sheet/tablecloth/etc. Lay out your pattern pieces on it as though it was your fabric and cut them out. Then using a 12 stitch or 4 width stitch on your machine sew the pieces together. Try it on and see where you need to alter it for your body. By doing this you can save having to buy more material if you mess up. ^^)

Hope this helps

Silenced Darkness

Ok so this is gonna be my first cosplay and im making my costume and my boyfriend's. We are going as a couple of our fav pokemon, just to make it easy. I can do most of the costume, untill i reach the ears. he's being arcanine and i'm going as one of the eevee evolutions or flygon, i haven't made my mind up fully. if i sew them onto a hoodie does a certain wire work better? and i've seen people who use headbands instead. Does anyone know how to make a headband like that with say flareon or umbreon's ears?

Knightfire

First time cosplayer here, wanting to go as Frank West from Deadrising. I already plan on making a mega buster out of the Bumblebee Canon toy, but I'm at a loss at making the Servebot Helmet. There are plenty of pics of the finished product on the interest, but google yielded no results as far as tutorials goes. Any help would be nice.

Also what fabrics should the jacket and pants be? Or does it boil down to personal choice?
