I'm not 100% sure this is the best place for this post.  However, the people who respond here tend to give informed opinions and care about cosplay accuracy so I'd value your opinions.

I am cosplaying as Tsunade from Naruto this year.  One thing that I'm hung up on is her forehead.  I had always assumed that the symbol on her forehead was a bindi.  A bindi's supposed to represent enlightenment and such so that always made sense to me.  However, on closer examination it looks like it's actually part of her skin.  Would I be completely out of my mind if I used a bindi anyway?  Or would I do better to draw this symbol onto my skin with an eyebrow pencil or something?

Suggestions are always welcome.  Thank you in advance for sharing any opinions or advice.

I think a bindi or even a regular sticker would be fine. I'm sure that a pencil would work too, but it will probably get smudged. As long as the bindi or sticker has glue that won't unstick if it's hot or sweaty, you'll be fine. You might want to find a few and test them out.

Facepaint. Not too oily. Going to your local costume shop and looking for paints there is a good idea... forgot the brand of the stuff though. House of Humor has it if you're local.

Well if you don't know how to carve, maybe perhaps through paper?

try reading this tutorial,
http://antheahui.deviantart.com/art/Yuffie-s-Shuriken-guide-70308253

If you don't like that method, why do you browse thru DeviantART under that same category to see stuffs that might give you and idea on how to construct your weapon.

by the way, if you're proficient in using wire-structuring, you might want to research more on paper mache on how those two methods might work for you...make a structure, sculpt it using paper, paint over it, and maybe it will look like that sword of yours.

You could try using foam board, a dowel rod for the tang (going almost all the way through the blade), epoxy glue, and good paint. That's what a friend of mine did with his Link sword. ^-^
When I am done with my current project, it will be amazing! :D

I was planning on doing a Maya Fey (-->http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/phoenix_wright/art-003.jpg)cosplay and I had some pink fabric lying around. It's not the same pink so I'm contemplating whether I should use it or just go get different fabric altogether, but I wanted a second opinion.

Also, for the doo-hickeys in her hair and the magatama, I was wondering what people would recommend I use to make them? I looked for some tutorials and I haven't found anything for making...beads.

Thanks!

help meee! FIRST TIME COSPLAYER HERE

Okay, so i'm cosplaying as lenalee lee from d gray man

and the faq guides say i need a pattern for my costume...where the HECK do i find a pattern that looks like that?? TT_TT i'm so lost..

SOawesomeness

Wow, if you're a first time cosplayer I would just have you buy the outfit than sew it, but then again, I don't know how well you know how to sew...

Well, you could get a design for a double-breasted jacket and just uberly modify it and add things afterwards... and just have the skirt thingy as a second piece that can be attached to the jacket. >.> Sorry if I totally didn't help. >.>;;

For the skirt, you can buy a pleated skirt pattern and only make it go partway around, and then jsut sew in a panel of stright fabric for that front part.

For the jacket... you will probably have to combine two patterns- one for the sleeves, and one for the body, then adding on. I'm sure that you can find a pattern for that type of closure in the front, and a good place to look might be in the costume sections, since it seems like a lot of nurse costume would have that type of front. (Then again, I've never looked for a nurse costume pattern to know for sure.) Also look at military-style jackets, since the sleeves seem to be derived from that (and you might get lucky and find one with a front like that, as well!).

Anyone have advice for making the hat shown here?:

I need it for my main cosplay of the entire con. I may make two, as well.

Alright, my particular probelm is that I am cosplaying Kisuke Urahara from Bleach, but have no idea how to make his sword, Benihime, and cannot find somewhere to buy one. Anyone know of a store that has wooden replicas, or an easy way to make it?

HavicMichaelchris

I just need some help in terms of places to find the correct things. I need a gray trench coat made out of (preferably) fabric that is of cotton texture, as well as a black V neck shirt both in men's small or women's medium.
Cosplays: L, Kyo, Pip, Ed, Luxord, And more listed elsewhere.

Paint a yardstick and trim the end off. Make sure you don't get a bevelled yardstick or people can see the tick marks lol.

I need to sew on a war kilt type of thing to a body suit by hand. I am doing this with scraps of left over fabric...when I sew it on...do I do it at an angle and over lap it for a pleat like effect?

I am not 100% sure...it's thick cottony stuff from a long floor length black curtain.

Does anyone know or have knowledge about custom made boots.  I'm looking for information for a boot for Chrono from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha.  I visited Stevens Creek Surplus, Shoe Pavillion, Payless Shoe, and Big 5.  I found no boots close to my Chrono cosplay.  Thank you XD

Here is a picture of the character http://www.nanoha.com/archive/charactor/crono.html

Kilts are generally flat in the front and then pleated all the way around.  You might be better off making the kilt/skirt separately and then sewing the finished product to your body suit.

burlington coat factory, ross, marshal's, to start with.  or a thrift store, like out of the closet or goodwill?  if the trench coat is not cotton, but you're afraid it's too heavy, just rip out the lining.

If not a yardstick, maybe check home depot or orchard supply or a hobby shop, they sell dowels and yard-long pieces of balsa (but that might be too weak).

Those look like hiking boots, ne?  have you tried all of the shoe stores at the Great Mall?  If you can't find black ones, maybe if you can at least find a pair, and polish it black, and also switch out the laces for brown or leather ones?  or if you have a pair of plain black boots and just attach the laces either with glue or punch holes in the top somehow to pull the laces through ..?
Life is too important to take seriously.  Seriously.

BunofGovt, thanks for the suggestions.  I went back to Stevens Creek Surplus to shop for something else.  I browsed the boots section again and I found the perfect boot.  It needs simple modifications.

XpHoBiaX

Thanks bunofGovt, I found my black kilt and looked at how it was made. I found an uncut up portion of the same material mentioned above and will make the kilt/skirt thing like stated. Using your advice. Sorry it was like, real vague...good thing is that I just need the back part, and I found the rest of my fabric stash! XD~!

LT

i am planning to cosplay as agito/akito and i'm wondering if : i use a jacket that looks like its from the character but not exactly...and make modifications to it would it still be considered cosplay, if i just looked like the charcter...would that be acepted by people? i know some people are like" no! make your own costume thats cheating!!!"

HuggalotXOmocha

Oh god. Making fake dreadlocks are a P-A-I-N. Especially if your making like....20 of them. My cosplay isn't an anime, but currently Im making a long skirt with little layers underneath, and fur legwarmers. Fur = EXPENSIVE.
