Quote from: Nina Star 9 on April 02, 2008, 06:44:09 AMit says on the webiste that at the very least, several poses can be a "minimal performance." So if I am understanding this right, that would noot be a walk-on and would be a performance, correct?

Well, I would classify this as a walk on if you aren't singing, doing a skit, dancing, martial arts, etc.

We will accept a few, but the audience has made it pretty clear they want us to focus on skits :/

We have a skit planned with the same characters from last year, however, every member of our group is remaking the costumes of the same characters that we used from last year. Is this acceptable?

Because technically, they aren't the same costumes, just the same character.

Absolutely fine!

For lighting, can there be tinted lighting? Like, at 0:30 seconds, can the lights be red, and turn to blue at 1 minute? Can there be flashing lights temporarily? (like the Pretear skit last year) and can you have a spotlight following someone? Thanks alot!

1. No, we have no colored lighting. Your options are on, off, fade in, fade out.
2. The Pretear group brought their own lighting system to do the flashing effect (as did the Full Metal Alchemist group). I think they were using flashlights XD  So, lighting like that must be provided by you. It cannot have a cord attached; I know that the Full Metal group picked up batter-operated high lumens portable spotlight -- they can be purchased for under $50.
3. No, we only have one spotlight, and they do not let us move it -- it has to be fixed on the emcee. Too expensive to have two and/or to move it, sadly.

Okay, geeze I have too many questions.

1. All of the information we have inputted for the groups (special needs etc.) do they really matter? Will someone look at those and decide from them if we are allowed to be in the competition or not? If so, should I update it as I find out more information about my skit?

2. Is it okay if I have live audio, it's very important that I have it live, because there is no way I can gauge audience reaction to my comedy skit and where to pause for laughs. Some things may be considered funny or not at all.

3. When will the groups be accepted or disapproved from pending status?

4. My costume is made out of found items with a bit of altering. Can I still go for a craftsmanship award?

5. Do we have to go to rehearsals, on Friday or Saturday? Or are they optional? If so, what are the rehearsals like?

6. Do I have to be wearing the costume in order to be judged for craftsmanship/going to rehearsals?

Thank you very much, I hope my questions aren't too much of a bother. ^_^ Looking forward to competing.

Yes, I look at each and every single one. Please enter as much information as you can, the cut off date for updating your record is 5/20/2008. I try to be as flexible as I can, as I know people suddenly decide to do a Gurren Lagan skit instead of Naruto, or an old best friend is now a mortal enemy. However, I will post final approvals on 5/21/2008 after reviewing the entires. So, yes, please fill out as much as you can.

Yes, you can have a mic, please request it in advance. HOWEVER, all LIVE comedy routines need to be approved in advance and cannot contain inappropriate language or themes. We can (and will) escort you off the stage if you devolve into inappropriate commentary, especially racial or sexual slurs. You have the same time limit as everyone else, so it can't be entirely free-form.

3. When will the groups be accepted or disapproved from pending status?

If you pre-registered, you are likely to get in, and some groups who come every year will be approved fairly quickly. If there seems to be a problem, I will contact you way before 5/20/08 to discuss my concerns.

Yes!

We will have a room open on Friday and Saturday right next door to the Registration room, you can practice in that at any time. The Saturday rehearsal is optional, but formal, on the stage with lights, music, etc.

6. Do I have to be wearing the costume in order to be judged for craftsmanship/going to rehearsals?

No, you can bring the costume in on a hanger and the judges can look at it while it is not on you. At times, they actually prefer that as they can see what you did to the costume and look at the seams without feeling weird :)

For the rehearsal -- completely optional on your part if you want to wear your costume or not. You MUST be in full costume by 5pm for the mandatory meeting.

I hope that answers everything :)

Okay, I really appreciate the answers, I just have a few now. So are any of the rehearsals mandatory? And how and when should I go about getting my special comedy skit approved? Oh and how do I ask for a mic in advance?

All of these questions are in the Guidelines. Please go read it.

And if you need special stuff, log into your Masquerade Registration entry and add it to "special needs".

Just one more question. We'll tell about the skit itself at the con? I don't see a box to be able to input about the description of the skit.

As long as your skit falls within the guidelines, I don't care what it's about :)

I emailed a question to [email protected] earlier this week (before registration opened) and today I received a notice that it had bounced (disk quota exceeded).  Should I email again, or send a private note on this forum since it's regarding something we had discussed last year?

Wayne is also having this problem with the email.

Bawlsy

Quick question. I have some voice acting I need done but it is a male character. Unfortunately as hard as I may try I do not sound very manly. Would there be any problems for using my friends and/or family to help me record what I need?

Eh? Really O_o?

I'm not at home right now, so I can't check it -_- sorry. I'll try to figure out if it's on my end or on Fanime's end when I get home.

I mean, what does it mean... *seriously has no clue what emcee is*[/color]

The Emcee is the person who introduces your group before you come on stage; he/she is basically the host of the event. You are stating what sort of introduction you want him to make for your group. We do a standard Group Number, Group Name, and series your group is from introduction, so this would be something additional. It's completely optional.

Special Needs is basically if you have a large costume, stuff that needs to be stored backstage, some sort of cosplay weapon that's OK for Masquerade but may not be OK to carry around the convention, if you have small children, if you need to go early in the Masquerade (or late), or if you need wheelchair or other special access needs.

Lighting requests... this is also optional. I get some people who have coreographed their entire skits with fade ins, fade outs, dim light, bright light, etc. Other people are "um, just leave the light on please?" So whatever you need. We do NOT have a spot light, your lighting options are basically on, off, fade in, fade out.

Music requests: this is usually if you have some sort of special need, like a microphone if you are doing standup comedy or singing. We do not allow microphones if you are just doing a skit -- we request you pre-record dialogue. We also do not allow mics as "props" -- if you need a mic as a prop (never turned on) in a skit, please bring it yourself.

I hope that helps!

The error message was for a bounce from babbit at anime-online because of "disk quota exceeded".  If you want I can pm you the entire error it sent back to me.  Most worrying is I sent the original message on April 1 before registration opened, and it took until April 6th to get this message that it was undeliverable.

Follower of Gaara

Ok, first question. Do you have to have music in your skit?
Second question. Do you have to pre-record your skit dialogue?
Thank you so much ^_^

That's just very odd because I have been getting cosplay messages O-o... I also sent some test messages, with no problem.

Anyway, I think it's fixed now? ^_^ please try again.
