This coming Fanime I'm thinking of making a panel about 2d fighters.
I'll be talking about:

Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo (ST)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SFA2)
Vampire Saviour (VS)
SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millennium (SvCMotM)
Marvel vs Capcom 2 (MvC2)
Capcom vs SNK 2 (CvS2)
Guilty Gear XX ^ccent Core (GG^C)
Melty Blood Act-Cadenza (MBAC)
Arcana Heart (AH)

These are the games (IMO) greatly impacted the 2d fighting game scene. Yes yes I missed some, like Samurai Showdown, TMNT Tournament Fighter, Art of Fighting and many more. If time/resources allow it, I'll also allow exhibition challenge matches in:
-ST (PS2 Capcom Classics Collection 2)
-CvS2 (PS2)
-MBAC (Ver. B PC)

Maybe if I actually get unlazy/motivated and learn these games:
-AH (PS2, Full! characters only)
-GG^C (PS2, region not decided yet)

---

If you know you want to challenge, just post up in what game, so I can incorporate time, or have a question, or just tell me that I'm awesome for doing this, go ahead, I appreciate it.

Okay, thanks PyronIkari for giving me a heads up it's an hour timeslot (I was not informed of the limited amount of time)

Anyways I'll convert this panel into a panel focusing on Melty Blood Act-Cadenza (I am at an anime con...)

I'll just go over basics, It's very small history, players and the like. If time really allows it I'll have an exhibition match, or two.

Didn't we have this discussion last year on these forums about how a 2-d fighting game panel wouldn't work, especially for a 1 hr time slot? If you covered all of these games, you'd be talking about each game for about 4 minutes. That's barely enough time to even introduce the premise of the game.

What would the concept/point of this panel to be? It seems to be rather pointless to be honest.

Outside of ST and MvC2, none of those games impacted the 2d fighting game scene at all. A2 is considered the best Alpha game, and over all really good, but it didn't impact anything. The only "IMPACT" the game made was that, it was when Valle first made a name for himself. In the US, No one plays VS outside of like... 10 people, and none of them are very good at all. Random JP players raped the hell outta us at EVO during casuals, and none of them were real big VS players, just interested in the game. NGPC SvC... Which is a good fun game, but no one care(s/d) about the game at all. No one cared about the NGP or the NGPC at all(Though it did have porn on it...)

CvS 2 did nothing for the scene, and is constantly criticized and most people argue it shouldn't even be at EVO anymore. But since it's the last playable game that Capcom did, it stays.
Melty Blood, was a doujin game that ripped off of Guilty Gear. How did that impact anything?

NO ONE PLAYS ARCANA HEART IN THE US. Sabin/Arturo is the only US player that can play the game well. It didn't do anything for the scene...

What made the fighting game scene was Hyper Fighting. Hyper Fighting to ST, to A3, to MvC2.

Alpha 3 is when US vs. Japan began. B4, Folsom, California. Umehara Daigo comes to the US, and raped the fuck outta the US with V-Akuma doing crap that completely blew the minds out of the US players. In casuals his A-Guy was beating our best Sim players(Sim was considered top tier at the time). Alpha 3 was a huge turning point in the scene, when it stopped being about norcal players vs. so cal players, and became the USA vs. Japan.

No mention of 3rd Strike? Even though it took a few years for the game to pick up, it basically became the biggest new generation technical game(after ST).

So, in addition to you not sounding like you really know that much, what's the point of this panel?

well, he did say that it was of his opinion that the games he listed impaced the 2D Fighting scene; he didn't try to push it off as fact.

and as far as his knowledge of it goes, it isn't necessarily implied that he DIDN'T know everything you mentioned, unless of course you were talking about his aspirations of holding the panel/game plan for hosting said panel/etc.

His opinions are wrong. That's my point. Holding a panel that's supposed to be informative and show people something, is basically stating that you are an expert on the field you are going to speak about. You are holding this panel because you are an authoritive figure due to experiences/knowledges on the subject.

Then you go and talk about stuff that is totally incorrect, therefore teaching people a bunch of incorrect information? Yeah... no.

Building on Mizuki's idea, a generic fighting game panel is ambitious and won't end well.

I can understand a basic introduction to some fighter theories (Basic Mechanics to ONE game only) and some perks to each character, but I can't see beyond that; too much variance in style and when holding a panel about a game they expect some sort of top tier award from you; otherwise it degenerates to a rant panel unintentionally.

Me and Alkaline talked a lot about this. The only way you could do this is to have a "basic tutorial to understanding fighters". Better players can pick up any fighting game, and atleast have a general idea how to play, between when to press which button, when to do certain moves etc.

The panel would revolve around that, in teaching the basics of fighters in terms of how to play, not so much playing itself. The mentallity of playing, and the basics of how you think and why you think what you do.

But even in an hour, that's iffy to cover. That's why we didn't do it a few years back. Either way, if you're going to throw a panel, you better damn well know what you're talking about.

There is a reason why I posted these games up, if you want to know why, give me a pm, but I can see from only an hour time slot is a problem. I'll be making some changes to the post on top.

I do have to admit I did forget 3s, how did I forget it? I don't know...
