So sanding round #2 is done...it was getting dark as I finished.
There were a couple large blood sucking mosquitoes that had to be reminded who's the Crusnik.

I tried to prime this morning with a new can of my less fave brand because the store was out of my fave primer....and...grrrrrr.
I will have some light re-sanding to do tonight. There's some drip blops.

I'm lucky it's just a few pieces though. And I quit quickly when it was not working right.

And this is sick in the head, but I realized that Ukitake is captain of the 13th division....and Abel likes 13 sugars in tea....

I had made a comment to someone a while back that 3 of my 4 cosplays are based around red, white, and black color schemes.

I did the clear coat on my stuff and it dulled the silver to gray!

update....
Most of the way back to recovery, but certainly lost time.
And not going to repeat that mistake again....gah.
Hope I can find something tomorrow to coat the arrows so the silver doesn't rub off on the clothes, but the coating doesn't kill the gleam. Need to get to craft store...and pray the solution presents itself. Possibly along the lines of acrylic varnish, high gloss...hm hm hmm....
But this means I won't have time to remake the rosary cross, sooo, I'll be going with my first rough one. It should be okay enough to get through the picnic.  :P

kimu, would a matte sealer work for your arrows? seals the paint in but doesn't leave it shiny. regardless i still can't wait to see what you've got done so far on saturday XD
oh so speaking of TB costumes and all, since i've started gathering references i think i've decided ill get a pair of red contacts to go along with it, so i can have one eye look like its in scanner mode or something (plus i love theatrical contacts XD).

The key is having the arrows be at least somewhat shiny. They're supposed to look like they were cast out of metal.

I'm thinking about an acrylic painting high gloss varnish. Anytime I remember using varnishes for painting, I don't remember any experiences where they changed the color in a bad way.
Also, I can't just put those re-sprayed arrows (Krylon chrome spray) right onto the fabric, because some of the silver on any of these sprays tends to rub off a bit. I don't want my lovely fabrics from the LA fabric district getting all yucked up. This stuff is dry clean fabric and with all the trim and bling, certainly not something you can just toss in the washer.

If tonight goes well, I think I'll have the vol 1 version ready enough for Saturday.

Well, we'll see after I finish eating dinner.
If they hold up with the mess of stuff I keep applying to them through AX, I have so much resin it won't be a problem recasting the lot this summer. I've learned a lot about shaping the stuff after I pull it from the mold, so I can make them better shaped, too.

Good news...I got the armor all painted with silver or gold. I have the crosses on the cuffs done!
I have to do the foot armor crosses next. Needed a short stretch and visual break before doing that.

Annnnnd, I think the experiment with the varnish coat for the arrows will work enough to get me through the picnic and AX!
whew!

So it's looking promising....although I'm scared to even say that...

UPDATE Friday morning--
The coating seems to work! I got a second coat on the arrows this morning. I'm still not happy with them because of their color is messed up from the mess up--they're not consistent, but they'll have to do for now. I think I won't end up with silver alllll over my lovely fabrics. Hopefully minimal!
So to sew, I have lots of snaps and arrows to put on the cassock and cape.
Some things to glue on the belts...
and a wig to style. (Thank heavens Abel's manga hair always looks like hell! Makes it easy!)
If I can get this done....I'll be wearing Abel to the picnic tomorrow.....

It's with sad news....I have to say I won't be wearing Abel tomorrow.
Having too many problems with the paint on the arrows and belt bars. The weather and my mess up with the clear coat stuff wrecked it. It's not safe to wear it, it WILL get silver on my lovely black Italian linen fabrics....or because some of them are still kinda sticky even after 12+ hours of drying...not good.
Plus, I had a "snapfu" with my second set of snaps down the front of the cassock. I didn't get them close enough to the edge to lock down the silver trim...sooo...
I'll be at the picnic as Ukitake, but I'll bring at least the Abel cape to show Kitty.

To make me feel less sad about it, I posted a few pics before bed to share. There's pics of the wicked tricksy arrows.

Esther apologizes for not having been on in a while.
I've been having problem with my laptop...it's been giving me a hard time.
I think I fixed it, but I had to delete tons of stuff like my special password cookies and all that.
*sighs*

Not to mention I've been having a bad sleeping pattern as of late
Been going to be at 3 in the morning. For the past two nights I've been going to bed at around 6:30-7:00 in the morning.

I dunno. I'm a night person. What can I say? Hasn't helped I wake up at 3 in the afternoon after sleeping my life away.

Ever get the feeling that you are simply wasting your life away?
I'm sorta feeling that right now...I need to go thrift store shopping.
