There's a couple of things, not series related, more US culture related:

1. Adults that lump every anime style together. Ex. Parents that say, "Oh, is that Pokemon?", to every Japanese looking thing.(I got this a lot while drawing in high school back in the day)
2. Chris Sabat.  He's a douche-bag that ruins everything he works on.

People who think all anime is Naruto or Bleach....or people who think Kung Fu Panda counts as anime. Or adults who go "Don't read anime in class!". Sheeeesh, it's called manga. btw, it wasn't me who was reading, it was some Narutard girl I hate who thinks she knows everything about anime.

I really don't get why idiots and weaboos like to follow normal anime fans around and try to "educate" us.(Though in this case, it's more like "de-educate")
edit: I'm not expecting all teachers or adults to research correct names or things like that, but at least just say "book" or "graphic novel" rather than toss around a word you don't really understand.

Bad dubbing (I'm looking at you 4Kids!) that's usually why I have to watch over 90% of my anime in Japanese because the English dubs suck ass most of the time.

Bad dubbing (Those who think English dubb is bad, you haven't heard Hmong dubb. It's worse when you understand it) ...People who think they know everything about anime or a series but actually doesn't. Anime that has the whole opening sequence made from the episodes alone, it makes the opening look fanmade (ie: Trinity Blood TVseries).
