Well, our esteemed forum moderator has suggested that we should post announcements about our panels here, so here we go.

WHAT: "3DCG for Anime Fanfilms", a Fanimecon special presentation
WHEN: Sunday May 25, 2008, 7:00 PM
WHERE:  Hilton Ballroom, aka "Almaden Ballroom", way at the far end of the convention center.
WHO: Joe Namikaze, "3D anime fanfilm guy"
WHY: Because it's time to stop just watching anime, and starting making it.

THE VIDEO TRAILER for the panel:

Yes, this is a custom video announcement I cut just to plug the panel.  Clearly, I must be out of my mind.

THE DESCRIPTION as originally submitted to the panels panel for panelists people:

"Although the U.S. anime fan community has a long tradition of creating both hand-drawn (still) fan artwork and anime music videos, to date there have been very few fan-produced anime-style or anime-inspired short films.  This talk will provide an introduction to the software, techniques, and creative and technology skills needed to create an anime-inspired 3DCG short fanfilm."

FEATURING:
- Reckless attempts to do live demos of expensive software!
- Frame-by-frame anime analysis!
- How to do 3D animation when you can't model, sculpt, or texture to save your life!
- An attempt to finally answer the question, "how many memory-hogging applications can you run simultaneously on a 2GB Windows XP laptop for a panel presentation?"
- Blender: not just for milkshakes anymore!
- Who is Aiko and why do you want her, NOW?
- Why build when you can buy?  Full-suit battle armor, now only $24.95!
- Lots of pretty 3D-rendered images!
- Cheat sheet handouts about 3DCG for hobbyists!
- HELPFUL TIPS on how to afford the software you need without selling yourself into slavery!
- Face and body morph action! (huh?)
- Motion Capture for hobbyists: possibility or lunatic pipe dream?
- Special Guest Appearances may include Poser, Maya, After Effects Pro, Houdini, SonicFire, Cararra, Premiere, Mimic, MotionBuilder, Fcheck, and God knows what else!
- Stuff To Do To Make It All Work!
- Stuff Not To Do Because It Won't Work!
- More exclamation points than you can shake a stick at!

SCHEDULED at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME as the Black & White Ball, AND the MusicFest, because who needs dancing or music when you've got 3D ANIME, BABY!

Whew.  I think I need a nap.

Um, did I mention the trailer?    http://tinyurl.com/5o87zz
(The actual version is 720x480, but unfortunately DailyMotion transcodes down to 320x240, argh.)
Anyway, feel free to share and enjoy.

Wow, that looks great! ^-^

I need to remember to forward the links to these to our Marketing Dept. I know a couple of others did them too... *goes to hunt through e-mails and things....*

*edit* I'm curious though - why DailyMotion instead of YouTube?
