Of course, going that route means dealing even more with heat issues (small cases have problems with the heat put out by today's CPUs, video cards, and (if overclocking) memory.  Either that or noise issues with small, fast-spinning fans trying to keep the system cool.

Get a Lian-Li. Problem solved.

Consider that...actually no, this sentence just does not make sense to me, so I won't even bother with a rebuttal.
I 'ctrl' through Visual Novels to collect CG's so I can trick people into thinking I actually played the game.

nah, who am i trying to kid? i actually hate cramped small cases, pain in the butt to wire in small spaces. mids/full towers ftw.

Last I checked, Lian-Li wasn't known for putting out SFF cases (such as Shuttle-style or Micro-ATX cases), which were being discussed.  In fact, checking through their current lineup at their website shows no such cases.  A couple of Home Theater PC cases, but those aren't nearly as small as a SFF or Micro-ATX case.

It's simple, really.  SFF cases mean that the fans involved are going to be smaller than bigger desktop ones (for example, we're talking   40mm to 60mm or, at tops, 80mm, compared to 80mm to 120mm or even 140mm fans on regular desktop cases).  However, in order to push as much cool air as their bigger bretheren, smaller fans need to spin even faster than bigger fans do, and when fans spin faster, they also become noisier as a result (quick experiment: take a basic desktop, standalone, or window fan used to cool a room and play with the speed settings.  Notice that, at the slower speed settings, the fan is quieter, but when you up the speed, the fan is noisier.  Same principle applies.).  Now, take that and add to it the fact that, due to the smaller, more cramped spaces within an SFF case, airflow is worse than it would be in a larger desktop case, and as a result you have to push even more air through it in order to keep the components cool, so the fans have to work even harder (and as a result, even noisier) in order to keep things from seizing up due to heat buildup.  Thus, SFF cases and, to a lesser extent, Micro ATX cases, have a reputation for being noisy systems in comparison to larger desktop towers.

Does that make sense now?

Amen to that.  Plus the power supplies used in SFF cases don't lend themselves too well to video cards that are decent by today's standards.  Maybe Micro-ATX since they can use most ATX power supplies, but they still can be a bit on the cramped side.

I have used Lian-li's before and their full towers are amazing when you mod it with a water cooling system.

You kids need to just learn to buy big powerful laptops, problem solved. Portable and powerful.

I don't know a person who DOESN'T love Lian Li. I love their simplicity and elegance.

A big powerful laptop costs way more than a desktop rig.  Out of most people's Budget... And you can't exactly perform many upgrades on a Laptop(New Video Card?)....

Nope, you can upgrade graphics cards on a laptop.

I have a 17" that I can went from a 7950 SLI to a 8700 SLI to 8800 SLI. It costs more, yea...but honestly...way more portable =P
