Reflecting on this year's MusicFest...
We had FLOW and LM.C here for Fanime '10. :]
MusicFest did a super great job getting these artists, because they are super popular...and we would have never thought that they would come to San Jose xD Thank you Fanime and MusicFest! :D
Suggestions for '11 or later:
Considering that they will have to be Japanese(I would have loved to have K-pop though) and most likely have to be related to anime...here's my list:
1.UVERworld
2.abingdon boys school
3.Aya Hirano(if Fanime can get her, my friend will finally come to Fanime for once)
4.Nightmare
5.ORANGE RANGE
6.mihimaru GT
7.The GazettE
8.ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION
9.Anyone from Johnny's Ent. or Hello! Project
Mod Edit: Moved to 2011
Good job, and thank you, MusicFest crew! Maybe someday I'll have the honor of joining in..~
PS: H&MC is over and done with already :)
I'm secretly hoping for Alice Nine/girugamesh/the GazettE/FLOW&LM.C
PPS: I don't think Momoi came on MusicFest's behalf like she did last year...
:)!

>__> I see...they broke up this year. So sad! We should have tried to get them beforehand.
I don't think Momoi had a concert for MusicFest this year either...now that I think about it.

The Pillows!
I haven't really listened to their songs (don't kill me) ^^;. They are really popular though! It would be awesome if they could come! :D
Momoi wasn't asked to come on behalf of MusicFest this year, it was a different branch of FanimeCon. :)
That's why she didn't sing at the Civic this time around.
I've never heard of the Pillows O_O; But I will give them a shot! :)
PS: SID would be good too. <3
^_^ Thank you guys for all the suggestions so far...we've already started for 2011, so please keep the requests coming in! :)
Just for clarification, FanimeCon's awesome GR Department is the one that brought over Momoi this year and last year :) We just collaborated on the concert for 2009.
Dang midnight.maiden you took a lot of my recommendations D:< haha.
Just throwing a few out there (not really related to anime things, but just anyways ;P):
Giguramesh
SID
Dir en Grey
Miyavi
akai SKY
suG
Versailles
Ayabie
Supercell (they're doing the new NARUTO Shippuden opening if I'm right)
Of course, we can always bring back LM.C and FLOW~ ^_^ <3

hehe ^w^ slightly going off topic here...but it concerns the Bay Area J-Rock fans:
Miyavi is going to have a concert in SF next week! I doubt I'm going because I'm a minor/parents/etc....but I really want some tour goods T.T. As of now...there are still tickets online(just checked).
VAMPS is also coming to perform in SF in October...I probably wouldn't be able to go that either. But I want merchandise! *__*
If anyone is going: It would be nice if I could have someone buy some stuff for me, and I would pay them back...>.> that's not safe, though.
I had so much fun at musicfest this year! Thanks Fanimecon! I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Anyway my suggestions are:
Alice Nine
The GazettE
12012
HANGRY&ANGRY
Fujiko-chan
GallowS
and many other visual-kei related bands! <3
^______^
Yes I saw the ad for Miyavi's concert too! I want to go D:
I entered a giveaway to get tickets to his concert, hope that I get them! xD
Haven't listened to VAMPS before, I should go check that out ;)
OMODAKA
I've seen Miyavi before in concery I wouldn't object if he were to come to fanime. His concerts rock! Even though I'm not a huge fan of his which is odd. Versailles would be great to have, I could die happy =P
though throwing this out there...would be nice to try to get Gackt though I'm sure he's super busy >.>
seconding the recommendation of having UVERworld and Abingdon Boys School (would be so awesome!). Would also love to see:
-Diggy Mo
-Asian Kung Fu Generation
-Orange Range

Unfortunately MYV hasn't done any anime op/eds yet. It'd be interesting to see what anime would match with his songs though. I'm sure if he were invited he'd say yes. The atmosphere he creates during his lives are amazing, so I've heard. :) I'm not a big fan of his either, but he's always so pumped up, it rubs off on people.
Versailles lost a member a couple months ago, right? I haven't been keeping up with them, so have they found a replacement (temporary or otherwise)? Hmm~
GACKT coming would be pretty amazing, except he's (true to your words) extremely busy and very popular. This year is the first time in his entire career where he's going to tour overseas....It's amazing...I never thought he'd ever leave Japan. XDD Maybe someday he really will come to the US!
Right now my top goal is SID. They sang two songs for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and are really popular right now, but still not quite there yet. Whoever we bring though, I'm sure will be awesome.
JMusic is the best that's out there, I'm hoping to staff eventually for this department. Someday...someday. :)
I want LM.C again......I hope so!
but anyways~
Alice Nine
SuG
UVERworld
Nightmare
Sid
the Gazette
Acid Black Cherry
Angelo (even though they don't seem like a convention band AT ALL, i would be ecstatic for the opportunity of a Q&A/autographs that the con experience has)
BREAKERZ
:) any of these would be worth a trip back to san jose from massachusetts for me
Please bring LM.C back!
I'm really, really hoping that LM.C will be at Fanime 2011.
Seeing them in concert just made my year.
Of course, I'm still hoping for w-inds, if there's even a slight chance.
And maybe SuG too.
I would certainly love FLOW to come back!
In addition to that:
ORANGE RANGE
abingdon boys school and/or T.M.Revolution
UVERworld
Acid Black Cherry
I would love to see LM.C again.
Bands I'd like to see would be Radwimps, but I don't think anyone is really aware of them since they don't do anything anime related.
Other options:
Uverworld
Alice Nine
Miyavi
Mana
Gazette
Shoji Meguro, the composer behind the Shin Megami franchise including the Persona spinoff franchise
Bring over the Persona Music Live concert to the States :)
A big dream come true (and I always ask every year XD) is if Plastic Tree came to perform at Fanime
They are a pretty good group and their style is constantly changing (so it can be catered to everyone)
Also Onmyo-za would be amazing to have!!

Also the return of LM.C would make me die of happiness.
And Uverworld would be awesomeful too.
FLOW was great this year. I can dream to see them again...ever. Anyone from a similar style would be great.
mihimaru GT pls
I would love to have LM.C come back! I would go all the way back to SF from Florida for LM.C
They said they were doing an American tour soon. If they have one of their concerts at FanimeCon again, I would go! I liked FanimeCon a lot~! So I would love to come back to FanimeCon again! You guys have a great convention! It blows the drama-filled Florida cons out of the water!

ehh? they said they're planning an American tour?! >:O
Have you been to Florida cons?
Yeah they said at the end of the panel they were planning an american tour.
And yeah, been going to FL cons for years, but they can't have bands come from Japan as they say "We can't afford it". FL cons just aren't that good. I completely loved FanimeCon. It's simple amazing, well put together, and has tons of great events!
If they're doing an American tour, I'll have to try hard to go to all of the concerts! *____*
I would love to see Oreskaband at Musicfest.
I don't think they'd ever reveal something like an in-the-works US tour...
Usually they'll say "we're considering it" or "I would love to have one"............
I'm going to be a party pooper and say...
Keep your expectations low and nobody gets disappointed.
:) Like when flying.
EDIT: To stay on topic because I feel that it's important...
Matenrou Opera is good too...
born is also good...
/headdesk but my first couple suggestions were on the top of my wantwant list. :)
FLOW was so great this I'm so glad I was there to witness it.
If UVERworld came it would awesome and EPIC beyond belief!
I also would like ORANGE RANGE. But UVERworld is my #1 pick.

Lol...^__^ I guess I did write a lot.
I'm pretty sure that FLOW would have a larger fan base than LM.C anyway (don't get me wrong, I love LM.C <3)...
FLOW is in a more generic J-Rock genre and have more popular anime songs (which means more people know them), and therefore much easier to like by the world. They're more mainstream than LM.C...
Whoa, I wrote "more" about 4 times. >__>;
I'm still crossing my fingers for Monkey Majik. ;D
Canadians singing in Japanese.
everyone mentioned all of the main ones already soo.
-maximum the horomone
-homemade kazoku
???
If you're going to bring from Johnny and Associates, KAT-TUN or NEWS would be my pick XD
Wow you all named all of the bands I'd suggest~
I'm so sad I missed both LM.C. and FLOW this year! ;_; Stupid schedule conflicts...
*cries in corner* xD
I want the no name indie bands from Japan back from a few years ago, goofy style was refreshing. Too bad tofu and stuff went away...
Well, i would love to see from the rather large list of big names tm revolution, because of his energy and love for anime, the pillows for very much the same thing. That's more or less it...
Oh yeah, anyone know what happened to ramen and rice? Haven't seen em for a while.

Every year every con, people ask for the Pillows. And while it makes sense for some conventions, it makes no sense at all for Fanime to bring the Pillows. You guys live in the bay area for the most part. The Pillows play in the Bay Area all the time. Hell they played a concert a few weeks ago. You could have gone and saw them a few weeks ago. They are also rather expensive to get. They do paying shows in the US, which means they will require a fee to get.
Quite honestly, if I had my choice between seeing the Pillows at concert, or a band I like that I haven't been able to see in concert multiple times, I would go with the other band. Seriously guys, if you want to see the Pillows... go to one of their concerts while they're in the bay, don't ask Fanime to waste effort to bring them when you can very much easily see them otherwise.
ViViD or GaGaalinG would be pretty cool too :D
bring SCANDAL!
Bring back FLOW if it's possible~ They were just so epically awesome the last time! <3 FLOW FTW xD
Ooor UVERworld and/or Asian Kung-Fu Generation~ It would reaaaally really be awesome if they come next year~ :D

Luzmelt should come! :D
Others:
Vidoll
Vistlip
D
Aqua Timez
BaseBallBears
Shoko Nakagawa
Ichiro Mizuki
Of course I LOVE
Alice Nice, An Cafe and GazettE, but they're very popular~

Not the one she got, this is the one I have from 2009.
Other than Perfume... I'm really not interested in a specific guest anymore. Though I'd like to see Radwimps, to be honest, they're lyrics are wasted on a non JP audience. What really makes that band is the amazing lyrics. I've seen every other band that I really care to see perform live already.
Alice Nine!!!!!!!!!!

the GazettE!!!
SID!!!

i would love FLOW to come back! =]
I'm coming in a bit late to the party, but since I'm here:
Orange Range would be really awesome to have, but aren't they on hiatus or something? I know the original drummer left, but have they already found a replacement? Well, if MusicFest staff can manage to get them, I sure wouldn't be disappointed.
UVERworld. I mean, dude, they've been mentioned I don't know how many times in previous posts. If bands were selected by a board popularity contest, they'd have to be pretty close to the top.
I was thinking I would be the first to mention SCANDAL, but alas, someone else beat me to the punch. I'll definitely second that motion, however. Plus, I don't think that they're so huge yet that getting them to come to the Bay Area would be out of the question.
This may be more suited for the GR department, but if the cast of K-On!/!! could come over to perform, I would literally be willing to do just about anything legal to see them. Even if that means giving up my beloved swap meet because of scheduling conflicts! (Not to con staff: please don't make me choose in the event they actually do come over!) Regardless of what some may say, bribery -will- get you places, and I'd help the Fanime cause as much as I can if it meant that anime fans like myself and others could witness HTT in person. Wait, maybe that was flattery, but I'm willing to shower both in the general direction of con staff if it'll help.
Finally, I don't know a whole lot about miwa or her work (other than she's crazy talented?) except for the current OP that she's supplying for Bleach, but I am really liking what I'm hearing, so let's see what we can do with her.
Ah! On that last note, I totally forgot about OLIVIA! She hasn't has the same spotlight in the anime world since Nana finished airing, but I would put her up near the cast of K-On in terms of my interest of seeing live. Plus, she's fluent in English and has attended other American cons, so we know it can work.
I would also love to see Orange Range.
QuoteOrange Range would be really awesome to have, but aren't they on hiatus or something? I know the original drummer left, but have they already found a replacement? Well, if MusicFest staff can manage to get them, I sure wouldn't disappointed.
OR's drummer left in 2005, and they haven't gotten an official replacement. No hiatus for them though, as they released a new single and a singles album in July and are planning a tour for the Fall/Winter.
Oi~ I would love to see UVERworld or the GazettE perform~!

I would love to see the GazettE, Alice Nine, or UVERworld there that would be like a dream come true or LM.C(i missed the last fanime :'()
Kalafina.
They would very well coordinate with the new season of Kuroshitsuji airing now with their contribution to the ending theme and also the fact that the show has been signed with FUNimation in the States.
Definitely not the pumped up energy we would see from some bands like we had with FLOW and LM.C last year but they would certainly put on a wonderful show.
It's a little absurd but I'd love to see a VOCALOID concert happen at Fanime.
It's cool that we've been getting bigger names coming to Fanime but I wanna see some good relatively unknown/new indie bands as well... Someone who puts on a good live show!
Also, I would looooooooooove to see mothercoat again. They're still active, and the last time they were at Fanime they put on an awesome show.
Here's some stuff from them if you guys are unfamiliar... http://www.mothercoat.com/video (if you keep clicking the arrow at the top, the last video is a clip from the second day they performed at Fanime~)
Others I would love to see:
ALI PROJECT
Aural Vampire
Yuki Kajiura
Kalafina
I have a pretty big list of stars I would like to see. Some of them have performed over here in the western hemisphere recently as well, so it might very well be possible:
Home Made Kazoku (just performed at Otakon)
Himeka (just performed at Otakuthon. I know, it's her home, but you never know)
VAMPS (toured in July in the states in '09)
Sukima Switch
SID
Lia
Elisa
Funkist
Chemistry
Omagake Lucky Hole
Yui
Galneryus
Angela
Ali Project (I second bringing them to Fanime, love them)
Any of these would be awesome. If I could see any of these artists in concert, that would make my Fanime. The FLOW concert was awesome this year, so I am looking forward to what is in store for next year.
@Freeden: I second/third/whatever number Chemistry :)
I'm really hoping X Japan comes to Fanime. Yeah they have a stop in SF in October, but I don't know if I can make it, so Fanime could make up for it haha xD

Woot! High-five!
I think another great idea would be to try and get together Dead Girls Monster or Afternoon Tea Time. I know their not real bands, but it would be kinda nifty to try and do something like the Haruhi concert that they had a couple years ago.
^ Afternoon Tea Time or After-school Tea Time like in K-On!?
Yes. I think having these anime-created bands would be great. At Anime Expo in 2007 I think, they did this big SOS tour where they had the voice actresses come and sing music from the show, just like their big live tour in Japan. Something like that for fanime would be cool. That or Girls Dead Monster (I got the name wrong before, I think), but less people know them as they are from Angel Beats.

uhm... I don't even get what you are asking people to do. The SOS-dan thing was a poorly done "concert" that was more of just a long advertisement for the US Haruhi release with a few songs thrown in. How this has anything to do with having non-existent bands is beyond me.
On further point... what would they do to get non-existent bands? Do you mean have the singer of said band... perform? Then why not just ask... for that singer to come and sing? I mean... seriously? Girls Dead Monster? They only had like... 3 songs. That's not a concert... that's not even an opening act. So we'd invite Marina as a guest to sing three songs?
After-School Tea Time at least makes sense, but they can't play instruments irl I hope you know, and since Satou and Kotobuki don't sing, they wouldn't do anything.

Actually, I quite enjoyed the SOS thing, as well as the one that was held in Japan and that WAS an official concert and both events were quite popular. And in fact, Girls Dead Monster has an entire cd out with a total of 13 songs. With both bands, just as they did with the Haruhi event, they could easily have a band perform with the singers. I don't know what costs are involved with bringing these anime-created groups to the states, but I think it's a nifty idea and I like the music, the reason I suggested the idea in the first place.

Most people did NOT enjoy the SOS-dan concert at AX. That AX had a slew of problems including that "concert" since it wasn't a concert, and just a very long advertisement, with 4 songs inserted. And you're missing the point of what I said in that... I STILL HAVE NO GOD DAMNED CLUE WHAT YOU'RE ASKING FOR. Girls Dead Monster is vocal'd by Marina. So what you are asking for... is... Marina to come as a guest... to sing... those songs... correct? It wouldn't exactly be a Girls Dead Monster concert... unless the depiction of the band is there, which is kind of illogical since there is no band that is the actual representative of them. So we COULD ask for Marina to be a guest and to perform, but I don't see how you expect people to turn it into a "Girls Dead Monster" event. SO you don't even care about that... you just want to see... any band... play... with the vocalist singing? Then why even care about that at all and JUST SAY YOU WANT THE SINGER. Is it really that hard?
The SOS Japan concerts were more realistic, since THEY WEREN'T A BAND, AND JUST SINGERS. Each VA performed their corresponding songs and that wasn't an issue with small skit like things in between. The illusion isn't hard to replicate because there IS NOTHING TO REPLICATE. There wasn't even a need for a live band and audio tracks could be used.
Seriously, you don't even explain what you want and just say "It'd be a cool idea, I would like it" WITHOUT EVEN EXPLAINING WHAT THE HELL THE IDEA IS.
I think you're taking this a little too seriously dude. It's really not that hard to figure out, and I don't understand where the frustration is coming from. I also am not sure how you are speaking for "most people". I know I enjoyed the SOS thing, as did the friends I saw it with. As for my suggestions, they are merely suggestions, and quite self-explanatory. Whoever it was singing the songs for either group, that is who you get with a back up band, or even a recording. I'm not sure how it usually works with solo artists who come to perform, but I imagine it can be done much the same way.
Okay, I've said everything I have to say about the topic. Moving on.
I don't know if I mentioned it, but I'd also really love to Ali Project come. I know they were at another con somewhere (forget which con). That would be pretty awesome.
I would like to suggest SuG! They have said before they would go where they are invited, so it should be relatively easy to get SuG!
LM.C would be great to have back! They were awesome.
But I would completely love it if we could have SuG!!
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE!!!!
or
ASIAN KU FU GENERATION
Girugamesh is having a world tour next year!
Hopefully we'll be able to snag them for ourselves in May?? ; A ; prettyplease
I would personally like to see a duel Mami Kawada/KOTOKO concert.
And of course I always must mention UVERworld.
I would LOVE to see
May'n!
;D
oh please please PLEEAAASE!!!
Masaaki Endoh http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=66285
JAM Project
Plastic Tree
Alice Nine
KNOTLAMP
SID
For this year I would think Dir en Grey, Pillows, Dig Jelly
Hmmm so many bands to think of...
I would personally love:
1. Dir en Grey
2. The Pillows
3. Nightmare
4. Asian Kung Fu Generation
I've seen The Pillows a number of times in SF and LA (in '05 and '08 I believe) and they always put on a great show. It would be a dream come true to get them for Fanime '11.
i'd say ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION, but Masafumi Gotoh (lead singer and guitar) stated that he would love to start a US tour, so that might conflict with Fanime Music Fest, cause his recording company is being strict with him. Masafumi said he's been trying to convince them to let AKFG play in the US. Just something that all AKFG fans should know, but hopefully we see them soon play at a club like The Slims.
It'll be cool to see The Pillows again. I saw them perform at The Slims like a week before Fanime '10. They were awesome!! they toured with Pop Chocolat, Monokuro, and The Noodles.
I wish Fanime Music Fest '11 the best of luck!
I would love to see
- Melt-Banana
- Kaela Kimura
Kanon Wakeshima
Adding 西野カナ (Kana Nishino) to my list.
BACK-ON PLEASEE~ :D
Been said a million times already, but SuG looks like they'd be fun. =D
COOL&CREATE
also, Girl's Dead Monster which was mentioned earlier is actually a good idea
I know it's not super likely, but LM.C again!! I would totally try to fly out there again to see them if they came back. They were amazing this year. I was so happy I made it out to see them.
Also,
Maximum the Hormone
SuG
Gackt
;D
I think I've posted this in two other threads relating to 2011 guests...but since this one is specifically for MusicFest, I figure it wouldn't hurt to post it here too! :P
A band that I would LOVE to see perform at Fanimecon is Acid Black Cherry. Though the band has only been around for a few years, all the members have been in prior groups and are all skillful and talented musicians. Not only that, but the lead singer is a self-professed lover of manga and anime, and would probably love to perform at such an event. Fanimecon would be a perfect venue for them to debut their act in the US!
SOUND HORIZON PLEASEEEEEE~ <3
L'Arc~en~Ciel
Versailles
An Cafe (loved seeing them at Fanime)
Do As Infinity
Dir en Grey
and MOMOI <3 Kawaii!
But good luck and I'm sure it will be fun whoever you get <3
Acid Black Cherry! ♥
I would love to see G∀LMET brought to fanime. They refer to themselves as melodic moe death metal.(they really emphasize the kawaii factor on their cd packaging) Cute lolitas playing metal is total win. Come on fanime, toss the metal heads a bone. ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EVCMnft2A8&feature=related
Second/third/fourth/whatever-th Asian Kung-fu Generation and Acid Black Cherry ;)
Hmm I'm still begging for SuG or LM.C again.
SuG really seems like they would be fun. I do believe I've read an interview where they said they would completely love to visit america and I do believe they said they would try to go where ever they were asked.
LM.C was just amazing and it would be (another) dream come true to see Maya and Aiji again. They just released their single Let Me' Crazy so maybe a stop over here again would help promote them even more? Even thought their managment had super strict rules, their concert was completely amazing.
SuG all the way ;D
I'm not saying anything... just sayin' (http://www.jpopasia.com/play/30126/kana-nishino/if.html)

They're disbanded....... :( :( :( :(
(Elaboration on Kagrra,: Their demise is in march, when they play their last live on March 3rd, 2011).
But I'd live in a cardboard box for the rest of my life if Fanime were able to score Kagrra, as a MusicFest act this year.
A cardboard box.
Bands/People I'd love to suggest:
Alice Nine, GazettE, Dir en Grey, SuG, GACKT (let me elaborate on Gackt) and Miyavi. :P
Now about Gackt, it would be really awesome if he could come to the US, but what people do not understand is that he is planning to come to North America in 2011. It has been "confirmed" by the man himself. While many of his fans patiently and yet some can be very impatient about his film releasing in the US. (Bunraku is what I'm speaking here.) Anyways, I do understand getting someone like him to come to Fanime could be rather difficult on behalf of he's very popular and a very busy man as several of you has mentioned.
If you would like me to link you guys to the interview that where Gackt himself has announced that he's planning on touring the US in 2011, feel free to drop me a mail. The other artists that I mentioned are some of my personal favorites as well. ;D I'd be personally happy if anyone of those personally came to Fanime myself. (But, I really have been waiting and wanting to see a Gackt concert for a very long long time.) Besides, Gackt has a fairly large fanbase in California anyways. ;D

I'd go bald to see them. >>; Siiiigh.
I don't know if they'll come though...They've said how they didn't really like being associated with anime so much. Like last time they went to Europe, they got questions involving anime and manga (ex. "who is your favorite character, etc.) that they didn't really relate to at all because they don't usually watch/read them.
I'd love to see them come though---I'm just cautious of if there were a Q&A and they were asked questions that they felt didn't relate at all to who they are as a band.
I've said too much.
---------------------
GACKT: I didn't know he'd come in 2011...now I will wait patiently. :D
Or Paradeis... I just recently saw one of their videos loli lollipop? And they are super cute looking especially Mashiro, the singer! I would be very interested in seeing them in person! :D And the song is super catchy too :)
The Musicfest for '10 was soo much fun!!! Thanks for such a great year Fanime! :DD It was great to see Flow and Lm.c. And just as much fun to get to meet them for the autograph signing! Its funny though that my mom got to meet Flow inperson and actually talk to them when she was checking out of the hotel though <3.
I think if Giguramesh or Miyavi came I would Die of excitment!!
Wish we could have a Miku Hatsune concert but that probably won't happen >3<. Did anyone else go to the showing in SF? It was so much fun!

That'd be kinda fun to see them in person
You can now follow MusicFest's official Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/fanimemusicfest)!
We'll be updating with guests announcements, contests and more.

Okay, carry on :) I'm still keeping tabs on suggestions :)
There needs to be some idols up in this beez!
I am going to suggest Momoiro Clover! They are cute, their songs are super upbeat and catchy and to one of my friends who has seen most of their lives and went back stage to meet them...they are very audience/people friendly and very interactive with audiences
Esp if you enjoy to wota \o/
Here is a link to one of their many songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7z9M0vFPbI
Honestly, I think u guys should have miku perform.
And I mean ACTUALLY have.her preform. Break out the hologram screen and have her perform this year. And if possible, have the persona live in the velvet room too. I can guarantee it will be a.huge crowd pleaser.
Too much VK.
Get some jrock with 9mm Parabellum Bullet or The Mirraz.
if not; then I agree with post that said Idols.
Berryz Kobou is perfect. (They are going to Sakuracon 1 month on April so its possible they can come to fanimecon)
I agree with too much VK. Fanime should branch out into other genres.
Idols would be good, but might be difficult to get and expensive. Everyone seems to enjoy Momoi, though, so more artists along those veins could be nice.
You guys aren't going to like my jazz suggestions (JiLL-Decoy association!! Do it!! They have such amazing and accesible music, it's not like some sort of ~lofty jazz~ that no one will like...the problem is that no one knows them, even just for their few anime OPs.), but what about something in the hip-hop or R&B vein? I'd go watch SONOMI or COMA-CHI in a heartbeat, and I know that there are a lot more J-urban artists out there.
And, since she's back under a new name, I have to suggest her! Amano Tsuki. She's done an original mini-album with light, nostalgac kind of music, a cover album of children's songs all in rather... unique ways (a metal/reggae hybrid London Bridge? Yeah!), a mini-album of self covers (from when she was Tsukiko), only she translated the songs into English, and a single that sounds pretty promising from the clip, moving back into her typical (but unique) rock style. She loves her fans, and she even reaches out to her overseas fans through English-language releases and an English-language blog. I have always maintained that she would be perfect, and I think that she would be an even better guest now that she is going back to her roots as a smaller indies artist, keeping in touch with her fans (especially her overseas fans!), and using her knowledge of English. Somehow, I have a feeling that she wouldn't be too opposed to performing a couple of old favourites to please the fans (especially considering her self-covers and that in a spinoff band wa~ay back in the day, she didn't mind doing self covers at lives), and I bet she has some new material to bring out.
Versailles, definitely. It be nice to see Kamijo come visit us again, but with the whole band this time.
Since the VK is overpowering, I will continue to suggest RADWIMPS. Or for more anime related, Sambomaster?
Matsushita Yuya or any Johnny's Artist :P Hella biased, but they're good people to have!
And now for a real longshot: DETROX.
It'll never happen, but I would LOVE to see them live.
GALNERYUS!!!!!
Edit: I will also once again throw in that I would love to see Elisa or Ali Project.
My band, Solanin, is interested in performing as an opening act if MusicFest is still taking locals. If MusicFest is still taking locals, may we get some information please? thank you :]

Yes...Visual Kei seems to usually be mentioned/invited. I want bands that are popular with the anime crowd, that have had their work featured in anime. LOVED seeing FLOW last year and actually knowing the songs even though I didn't know the band as much. I think it would appeal to much more people at the con than one specific genre would.
That said, here's my list (all of which have songs in anime):
- the pillows (FLCL soundtrack/Moonlight Mile)
- Utada Hikaru (Rebuild of Evangelion/Kingdom Hearts promotions)
- Tommy Heavenly6 (Soul Eater/Gintama/Paradise Kiss/Gundam 00)
- YUI (Bleach/FMA)
- Jyukai (Fate/Stay Night/Ah! My Goddess/Busou Renkin)
- Kalafina (Kuroshitsuji/Time of Eve movie/So-Ra-No-Wo-To/Kara no Kyoukai/...and recently in Madoka Magica)
- School Food Punishment (Eden of the East)
- Oreskaband (Bleach/Naruto)
- GO!GO!7188 (Itazura na Kiss)
- Orange Range (Bleach/Naruto/Code Geass)
- Supercell (Bakemonogatari/Cencoroll/Naruto)
- The Brilliant Green (Gundam 00)
- Maaya Sakamoto (Too many animes to name, but she'd double as a guest seiyuu, too)
Anyway, looking forward to what's bound to be a great event regardless of who is chosen. :)
AKB48!!!! They are soooo underrated in america.. They need a taste of some american culture..
Yea, too many visual kei request. How about have sys hirano and nana mizuki?
I vote for Asian Kung Fu Generation as they are an awesome band that i favorite a lot. The band i am in is called Solanin, the same band as asngtrst, is wondering if we can too as you probably already saw asngtrst's message. Thank you very much for your time to read this message and for providing fanime for us all

AKB48 have come to America like 5 times already. Also, underrated is a terrible word to use, and frankly, they are not a very family friendly group in the least. Most of their songs are beyond innuendo dirty (and seriously, *I* even think their songs are dirty... me of all people).

I've never heard of AKB48 until I saw them at Anime Expo and their show wasn't dirty whatsoever. However, the same can't be said about a few of their die-hard male fans I saw. (>_<)

Unfortunately, even if Fanime could afford Utada (and who wouldn't want that), she isn't even a possibility right now because she is on hiatus from her career for now. Sad, sad, sad.
That being said, I would like to hear from the Fanime staff and see what artists they have been looking at come perform. I am very curious to know what we can possibly expect. That is, of course, if they have really started looking at anyone specific yet.

As PyronIkari has stated, we can't announce anything until all is official. Otherwise, we could get into a lot of trouble. :)
Also, if we hadn't been looking at anyone specifically by this time (4 months away from con), I'd be freaking out :P MusicFest works year-round. We don't get a break, lol.

Aww, that's too bad. Though I'm anxious to see who the staff has eyes on, I can see things getting a little crazy if rumors were to start. "We're looking into possibly inviting 'X band' to perform at Fanime" can quickly transform into, "Hey guys, did you hear that Fanime booked 'x band' to perform?" I'm sure there's other important legal reasons as well, but I can see that alone being reason enough not to bother. Plus, who doesn't love the surprise?
SCREW, please! :)
I would love to see R-15 (Shitei) perform if possible
Im gonna throw out a few wild cards here..
BOA! why? come on shes awesome
Luna Sea

Abingdon boys school
SOPHIA!
I know this hasn't been said to much yet, but I would love to start seeing older bands or musicians starting to come to the cons. Afterall, SOPHIA coming to AX last year and them being around for so long, I'd love to see that same support from Fanime.
That being said, Kiyoharu is someone I'd love to see. He's done a song for an anime (Wallflower), but his first band is also back together and released a new single earlier this month. I think he would be amazing.

I really Like LC5.
Dog in the PWO would be interesting to see live.
Matenrou opera
Chemistry
Halcali
Seconding Abingdon Boys School, Gazette would be more than awesome, but unlikely.
Chaba - Kind of obscure, they did a few Naruto endings.
Aqua Timez - Star Driver, Bleach, Naruto, etc
Nico Touches the Walls - Did some Naruto op/ends, FMA, etc
That's all I can come up with that aren't the obvious, but highly unlikely to appear choices. xD
hilchryme is really good too...they're more hip-hop, though, something a little different from what who've come so far.
Don't know if anyone has talked about this, but I just discovered a new love for Kalafina, who are amazing. This after hearing their theme for Kara no Kyouki (Garden of Sinners). They've also done music for So-Ra-No-Wo-To (Op.)
I will also make another push for SID and Chemistry.

I nominated Kalafina on the previous page, too. They're also featured in the ED of the currently airing Madoka Magica (which is awesome). It'd be great to hear them live.
I'd have to agree with the suggestions for Kalafina, Lia, and Mizuki Nana.
Other people that would be cool to see would be:
Chata (Clannad ending, Potemayo ending)
rita (Little Busters! opening) (ok, I admit that's really wishful thinking >_>)
It would also be cool to have the singer/group for the songs in Angel Beats, like LiSA or something.
Or it would be nice to see something like they did at AX '10, and get a hardcore DJ like REDALiCE or SHARPNEL. ^^;;
access (AXS) - They've been around forever (20 years this year), still have quite a strong fanbase, and they contributed "Doubt & Trust" to the D.Gray-Man anime, and "Hitomi no Tsubasa" to Code Geass. Daisuke Asakura, the founder, is also the producer and founder of T.M.Revolution, and he also composed for the Gravitation TV anime.
Fukuhara Miho - She's relatively well-known in Japan, and she did "LET IT OUT" for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
alan - She's quite popular in Japan, and she did "Diamond" for Inuyasha: The Final Act, and "Over the clouds" to the PSP game GOD EATER.

ARASHI! Is this too crazy a request :P
Ahahaha, do you even have to ask? xDDD
I'd love to see them someday though, KIS-MY-FT2 as well..
^ this is coming from an Arashi uber-fan. Hence the response.
OT and I'm sorry, but, excuse me? I'd appreciate it if you could stop talking as if you know me. Even if you didn't mean to, I'd like it if you didn't. Thanks.

@Silver: Ohhh, NEWS! They haven't been active lately, since Yamapi's running off on his own. A lot of people would love to see LM.C again, myself included ;D Here's to hoping we have a superduper lineup this year too! :)
Boom Boom Satellites
Perfume (impossible, i know, but still!!)
Chatmonchy
Better yet tell you what I think I speak for everyone (especially if you went to PMX expecting there usual class A guests as far as music goes) when I say as long as you get a decent guest in a timely manner (meaning not the week or 2 weeks before the con) we'll all be happy! That was pretty cool that we didn't have to pay extra to see LMC last year I gotta say
hmm another set of suggestions
Jinn
44Magnum
Access
Id say high and mighty color but they disbanded :/ and im pretty sure I've mentioned the brilliant green here somewhere
Tommyfeburary6?
Every Little thing
Chihiro yonekura
Kotaki kinya
Psychic lover
Masaki Endou
I have no idea how feasible this is or what their general popularity is like here or elsewhere, but I would like to echo another person's request for Base Ball Bear. I'm a pretty big fan of their music and I would make it a point to actually go to MusicFest if they played. OLIVIA is another artist I would like to put in a vote for. I personally enjoy their anime work and the songs they have done outside of anime and I know other people who do as well. :)
SuG all the way~~
Or LM.C again!
missed last years concert, but i bought all memorabilia i could that saterday ^^
i'm listing all japanese artists i can think of quickly, but lately all i've been really listening to is k-pop ;D
but i suggest
Alice Nine <3
Miyavi
Lm.c

I find it amusing that the number of requests for KPop artists seem to grow each year.
Just for
discussion's sake only since I'd love to hear all kinds of input from the attendees...
We mostly focus on Japanese artists, but would you actually like to see MusicFest expand to include artists/musicians/bands from other Asian countries?
Also, please keep the requests coming in! ^_^ Thanks!

yes, i think it'd be awesome to ass more of the other asian countries in musicfest, they are growing more and more popular each day. plus it'd be a little taste of something new at a convention.
Realistically no, because they essentially have no part in what "Fanime" is. Fanime is essentially about JP cultures and trends. It was never about Asian culture as a whole, so by bringing in Korean groups (at least those that don't have a JP locale release) you're opening flood gates and changing what the convention is.
Korean groups? Then we have to seek out Chinese and Taiwanese groups right? It's only fair for HK stars to be sought after then. But why is it only Asia? Why don't we invite Europeon and Middle Eastern groups too. The Middle East and Russia are part of Asia after all. Get up on them Phillipino bands too, they be stylin as well. Hell, American bands love Anime, so we should totally get AMERICAN BANDS TOO!
It's not even about Fanime, people are just naming groups they like, regardless whether or not they have any reason to be at the con.
To play devil's advocate, not everything at Fanime has been completely Japanese culture centric. The Asian Film rooms have shown a lot of films in the past that incoporated films from other Asian countries (Attack the Gas Station, My Wife is a Gangster, et all), and if I do recall correctly, there have also been martial arts demonstrations (was it in 2005-or 06?) that were more Wushu than Aikido.
However, before anyone starts panicking, MusicFest will always be JPop/Rock centric. I would like to hear from those who are requesting KPop and other non-Jmusic artists to sort of...give a reason why those picks would be good for MusicFest other than simply wanting to see them.
If it's just wanting to see KPop, the KMF event in SoCal (or SMTown if it ever comes back) would probably be of more interest, lol.

But on the grander scheme those are much more minor things in the same way that Magic:The Gathering, Halo, and Duck Duck Goose are played in the game rooms. And how internet celebrities do panels and the such. They're generally viewed as alternatives available in the convention but aren't the sole focus of the convention. The major guests and MusicFest themselves though are huge representations of the con and what it stands for, so by deviating it's different han showing HK films or playing MTG in table top.

To counter the anti sentiment about Kpop stars at fanime, BoA does have several japanese releases and well unless you've been stuck in a time warp and missed inuyasha you know this. Younha is definatly a Korean as well just something to think about. I understand the whole japanese culture at the convention but to counter that argument some more I happen to be a Shotokan Karate instructor and guess what? Whatever martial arts school the con has representing the "dojo" def ain't japanese infact it looks like a Hawaiian style. No need to be segregated.
That being said some of these "Japanese inspired bands" are horrible and no one knows who they are :P I'm not knocking the con or anything but I'm saying how and what can it possibly hurt by bringing a korean in?

WAIT WAIT WAIT... did you just seriously say I'm being anti-sentiment about Kpop stars being at fanime? Did you even read what was posted? I even included how it's okay if they have JP releases. What can it possibly hurt by bringing Korean in? Again please read what I wrote.

My point is if they have something to do with anime or the japanese culture why not bring them? I mean what could it possibly hurt by having someone like Younha on stage? Who cares what country their from as long as they somehow fit the base for the con?

I suppose I worded that wrong I was kinda agreeing with you.
... No, that isn't what you said at all. Because the very first line was to contradict "all the anti-sentiment to K-pop"(meaning me, because I'm the only one that has posted on the subject) in which you tried to disagree with everything I said. In which I ALREADY STATED that if the artist is established in Japan, it kind of doesn't make them just a "K-pop" artist. Essentially they're intl'. No where did I say they "HAVE TO BE JAPANESE", nor that "THEY CAN'T BE KOREAN". Only that "K-pop artists" do not belong at Fanime, unless they have established JP music careers as well so that they tie in to the conventions theme.
kpop requests are allowed now? ^^ It makes sense that they'd have to be JP related though :] I add~
JYJ
SNSD/Shoujo Jidai
SHINee (they're debuting in Japan in April!)
BoA
Younha
Big Bang
KARA
2NE1, they're going to debut in JP sometime this year AND they're supposedly planning to extend promotions to the US. I even see a hint of this 2NE1 --> US business when I go to Comcast OnDemand, there's a kpop section and there's always like 4 2NE1 songs vs. one or two of every other artist.. :P It makes me wonder if YG Entertainment is testing the waters~
After School just debuted in Japan with Namie Amuro! if both of them come they can sing their song together :P
LOL it seems like the entire kpop world is moving to Japan, and then with Yamapi going up to promote in Korea.. the two countries are gonna totally switch stars XD
And as for more JP artists, I'd love to hear Ayumi Hamasaki or Namie Amuro in person ^^ (too much to ask?)
Chieko Kawabe sung the theme song for Ouran High School Host Club, and I loooove the rest of her music <3
AKB48, I got totally interested in their music after seeing the Beginner video! I felt a strong inspirational message lurking beneath the controversy.. like they were breaking free of the machine in the video, which says something about the unconventionality of their group (and their music video), and maybe in a deeper meaning, how the rest of the world shouldn't feel obligated to follow the crowd. Like, you have to be yourself no matter how chained up you feel by normality ^^ lol there's a million ways that video can be interpreted but that'd be mine.
Gackt, reading his translated life story made me pay more attention to him, and he and his music are awesome <3 But apparently he doesn't like to go out of Japan..? for a reason I can't remember atm..?
Tackey and Tsubasa, they sung one of the opening themes of One Piece :)
may'n please~
Dood, i would give a kidney for
Kalafina
Dream on! yeah!! \m/
end of discussion =D

Suggestions are welcomed, but it's just mostly for discussion!! ^_^
Yep, as it's been said in previous posts, it honestly only makes sense as long as the kpop groups/artists have had official debuts in Japan (but at this point, that's like almost everybody!), BUT! They also should have proven their worth on the Japanese market (and that's not everybody!).
I've been keeping my eye on both scenes, so I've got a grasp of what suggestions make sense and what suggestions really don't. Since MusicFest is for the fans, everyone's input is important for the line-up, and since the number of requests for Korean artists have been on the rise, I thought it'd be something to look into. It just has to make sense!
Wouldn't want to invite guests that make attendees go "...so...why them??" :D

lolol true! In that case I'd probably limit my list to..
BoA
JYJ
Younha
Big Bang
KARA
SNSD/Shoujo Jidai
in order of relevance ^^ KARA and SNSD are still newish but KARA started the butt dance revolution and released their own album that topped the charts! lol SNSD hasn't done much in the JP scene yet.. and they would probably cost like a million dollars anyway XD
But I vote JYJ especially, they're promoting in the US with their tour coming up, and DBSK has (or used to have? But I remember seeing an article saying Tohoshinki's music is still selling like crazy even though they're broken up) a huge presence in Japan ^^ They even did one of the One Piece ending songs!! <3
And lately I've been addicted to Love in The Ice lives http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkjvne7qnYc -goosebumps-

Okay, I KNOW I'm not the only gamer out there who's heard of The Protomen. They're playing at PAX East but I would die of pure, fangirlish glee if they played at MusifcFest. I'm part of a semi-official fanclub on DeviantART and so I know a lot of people from the West Coast would DEFINITELY come out and support them if they performed at a con over here in California.
This is their website: http://protomen.com/
And they have a music player right there on the home page so you can get a grasp of what they sound like. They're performance and two of the albums are pretty much, in a nutshell, something like a rock opera based on the first MegaMan game. The band is hilarious and they love to chill with their fans so I think having them visit Fanime would be amazingly fun! Plus, their shows are awesome.
Youtube links from some of their concerts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSngECMI488 <-- The Will of One, which is one of my favorites.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elWG3nkkvjY <-- Light Up The Night, which is my all-time favorite.
The best part about these guys is that they sound amazing live AND in the studio. That's hard to come by for bands like this.
So anyway. That's my pitch for The Protomen. I'm afraid I don't do them enough justice. But please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, PLEEEEEEASE consider The Protomen for Musicfest, if not this year, then perhaps next year!!
Thank you!
You should all bring TeddyLoid and D-YAMA to FanimeCon, they would bring some monster setlists that would be perfect for this convention

I'm squealing like a fangirl. "Trust me" is one of my favorite songs, and Yuya was STUNNING as Sebastian in the Kuroshitsuji musical.
God bless you, Fanime.

Oh yes, I'm not arguing there. I went to that concert and loved singing along to songs I actually knew. You could tell they really enjoyed performing as well. I just think that bands like FLOW attract more people because more people at Fanime are aware of their work through anime. You wouldn't likely get that same appeal from, say, a Korean artist (unless they're BoA or something). That is why I'm happy with this year's choice.
I keep seeing this band, Solanin, in this forum. Searched them up too, so add them to my suggestion! Also I'll add UVERworld while Im at it! :D
Why do all the Solanin posts seem spammy? :-\
I guess I started something?? o.o but nah, I just went through and saw somebody also approving with the Solanin request, and thought why not too x3
I'm sorry for all the commotion! Our band, SOLANIN, wish to play as an opener for Music Fest as a performance after our graduation. We're also normal Fanime attendees. We play at around Daly City, started at a high school, and played for our annual Sakura Festival a long time ago held at our high school as our first performance. We grew a small fan base from that, and they've been following us since. A friend told us that a fan found out that we've been practicing AKFG songs for a set list for a possible audition, and announced it to the whole anime club today. A friend has also told me that 3 people suggested us and somebody thought it was "spammy". But we assure you, that it wasn't our intention to "spam", just supportive fans who want to suggest. If you wish, we will try to stop them from suggesting us, if you feel that a person suggesting us is a bother. We're sorry, and we apologize for our fans for seeming "spammy".

I suppose I was wrong, then. When I see people with low post counts saying essentially the same thing in a small span of time, I tend to think they're all the same person posting under different accounts - hence my comment. If they are truly different individuals who are fans, then I apologize. They should be able to support you if they want you to perform.
It's quite alright. I was afraid it might look that way too. Finding out who they are (cause what do you know, they messaged our band email saying they've suggested us), they are also fanime attendees. Well at least littlekirby and ardeverci, we don't know tomete (well thank you tomete for suggesting us :D). Again apologies, and thank you ;) Anyways, on with the suggesting! :] good luck to Music Fest! youre doing a good job, I just found out that you guys got Yuya! I'm really excited now x] still suggesting, STRAIGHTENER :D
Plastic Tree please?
They've done some anime theme songs before. Pretty classic Jrock band. They haven't been to the states yet so it will be refreshing to see them.

Wow, good job with the first guest! Perfect for us DRRR! cosplayers! Maybe I'll show up to it as Celty? ;D
I know I'll be showing up to it as Kida. :3
You think this'll up the amount of cosplayers for our little group? ;)
I'm thrilled that Musicfest staff got someone who's really anime-related. That's all I wanted.
Hmmm...maybe I should cosplay DRRR! too. Let me know if you are lacking a certain character.
...but first, I gotta finish the anime D: Currently on ep5.
I WUV YUYA MATSUSHITA!!!!松下優也!! <3

You need to either cosplay Mikado or Anri. Or hell, even the creepy girlfriend, Saki.
We desperately need someone for the Kida. :|
Last year there was nobody for me to interact with. I was so ronery.
Oh, and a Simon. We don't have one of those yet.
I believe you can watch at least some of the Kuroshitsuji musical on youtube.
I feel like I'm repeating myself for the umpteenth time, but I'd like to request Perfume. I'll probably request them every year until they actually attend. They give such amazing live performances that I think even non-anime fans would enjoy.
I vote for Hatsune Miku :D
To add to my post, I want to see Alice Nine :D
It would be so cool when they perform Tsubasa and green lasers are flashing around like the MV x)

-Andrei from SOLANIN
Just wondering but was your name from the one shot manga called..well...Solanin?
is it too much to ask for Olivia Lufkin ?
Now that I think about it, I would love having AAA, aqua timez, or w-inds. :D

Yes we are :] too long to explain why we named ourselves Solanin. short ver: We were heavily influenced by AKFG, and we read Solanin, which we used for inspiration. we made our own version for the lyrics Naruo Taneda wrote in the manga, then the trailer came out. We were very excited, then we were even more surprised when AKFG played the theme for the movie adaptation. oddly, it sounded similar. So we wanted to pay tribute to this moment, and remind us of how we really started as a band.

So...catchy ; A ;
Ohhhh man, would I die a very happy fangirl if Versailles came to Fanime~!!!!! I've become quite the fan of theirs in the past few months. Their music is truly epic, and if I could hear it live.......... OMG~!!! @////////@ And the members are just beyond gorgeous~!!!
Though, if you can't get them this year, that's ok~ ^^;; I am planning a Versailles cosplay group for next year at Fanime, so next year would be excellent~!! ;D But, just saying........ ^^;;
I'd be happy if Fanime could get Yui. And it would be awesome if they could bring back Tamaki Nami.

I AGREE.
They're a group of natural beauties who work hard and dance in high heels. They're admired by housewives in Japan and don't appear to be superficial compared to more mainstream groups like... Korean girls groups or AKB48, even though I know some of them have good morals.
I love anime music, so I have a list! :D
Wada Kouji (from Digimon!)
Ai Maeda (ditto)
Dream (They do a bunch of different animes, but I know them through Hikaru no Go.)
Yukari Tamura (Rika Furude in Higurashi...So cute!)
Junko Iwao (Tomoyo in Cardcaptor Sakura...Her voice is so angelic. It would be amazing to meet her!)
Kae Araki (Hikari from Digimon)
Houko Kuwashima (Pretty famous, but I know her as Filia from Slayers TRY)
Yuki Kajiura (amazing composer)
Megumi Hayashibara (Lina Inverse from Slayers, and also Ranma from Ranma 1/2, I believe.)
V6 (Inuyasha opening theme, anyone?)
BoA (Every Heart from Inuyasha)
Jin Akanishi
Buck-Tick or Vamps or Uverworld or Maximum the hormone or Orange Range or KanonXKanon or ViViD or Thee out mods or X Japa........
DOES (cuz I am a Gintama fan XDD)
I'd be happy with almost anyone actually :P
