Hotel Name: Marriott

Would You Book Next Year: No

Pros: Close to the convention center and the other hotels with Fanime events. Decent AC if you left it running all day.

Cons:  When enquiring about a lost item the staff insisted that someone I let into the room must have stolen it. (Interesting since the only people I let into the room was the housekeeping staff.)  No Security.  Drunks in the elevators, hallways, and lobby. Loud parties until the wee hours, when the 'guests' would run through the halls screaming.  Housekeeping was lax. The hallway quickly turned into an obstacle course of piles of dirty towels, bags of trash, pizza boxes, and dirty room service dishes. Hotel staff was rude and inattentive, and complained to me about the behavior of con attendees (as if it was my fault, or that I could do something about it).

Special Notes to Share: Never again.

The con couldn't happen without these hardworking dedicated individuals.
Shout outs to the folks that worked the Yuya Panel and autograph sessions, the monitors at the Dance (for keeping all of us safe), the rovers working to keep people moving through the concourse and on the stairs, and the entire staff at Stage Zero.   ;D

Hilton was about 115 a night

But after all the taxes and fees the "$115 a night" rate at the Hilton came to about $410 for three nights.

Sorry you had a bad experience with the Rovers. I greatly appreciated their presence as this year. Quite frankly the majority of the attendees seemed to have no manners or common sense. And wtf is the deal with playing on the elevators and setting off the fire alarms? Really? Is your world so small and pitiful that destroying other people's property is what you do for fun?

Thank you OscarC!

Thanks for the tips.  They are all great ideas.
Have any of you used the in room coffee maker to cook ramen?

I took a cab from the San Jose airport last year. The fare was about $25.
Is anyone else flying into San Jose Friday afternoon? Perhaps we could cut costs by sharing a cab.

What kinds of snacks or food are you bringing to Fanime?  I am flying in on Friday and need some ideas that can be packed  in my luggage.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Raise Money for Japan
March 17, 2011, 12:47:11 PM
I know it is difficult to run a charity auction every day so this may not be feasible but something that could raise money without too much cost to Fanime would be auctioning off front row tickets to Fanime events (masquerade or concerts). Or selling "fast pass" tickets to the head of the Maid Cafe or registration lines.

I think I failed because my cosplay sucked.

You funny.  You had the most excellent cosplay this year!

I hope it helps with the elevator situation. Last year was horrid.

I understand that the Fanime birthday party is a ticketed event. Is there any chance that tickets would be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Red Cross or APA?

Many thanks to the FanimeCon 2010 Housing team for quickly resolving the issue I had with my reservation.

JERRY, Jerry, Jerry   ... You must have misread the title to this forum.
Its Ask a STUPID question, get a stupid answer.   Not "get a smart answer"!!

(besides the question was "Why are they called Rovers", not "What is a Rover"). ;)

All of the Rovers I met last year did a whole lot more than rove.

Brooms are used in curling to either 'pave' a path in the ice for the stone (to speed it up) or push ice in front of the stone (to slow it down).

Never eat snow. It falls through all that pollution in the air before it hits the ground.

Why are Rovers called "Rovers"? Do they rove?
