I would love to see the Hatsune Miku concert come to the Bay Area.

LOL....You need to get that "fix" huh?
I would personally like to see a K-pop group or artist just to mix things up a bit. I'd would be nice to get "Brown Eyed Girls" for example but that's just one name i'm throwing out there ;)
kpop groups would be awesome, but this is an anime convention, so I don't think that'll work out :\

If they're relevant to Japanese pop culture, it's possible~
MF has hosted artists/bands who have had absolutely no connection to anime (thinking back to con years 2003-2007), and the audiences have enjoyed them regardless.
I want either the beautiful Maaya Sakamoto to come and perform to the Bay Area or the lovely Lia.
On a serious point, a music guest that would actually be really good to have is Yui. I'm not the biggest fan of hers but she is a really good performer and has more than her fair share of anime songs.
Seconding Maaya Sakamoto <3
And I'll also suggest Arashi. Hey, nobody's mentioned in the thread that it had to be possible. :B

Niiice, I second that. I don't adamantly listen to her, but the few albums I've listened to were pretty good.

seconding this so hard. it seems like it would be hard but it would be amazing
a really good possibility, though, is to bring mydjsobad out to have them do a show on friday or saturday night next year.
http://www.mydjsobad.com
they do a show called "Hardcore Synergy" every year at anime central with popular j-core artists like NO+CHIN and m-project. this year they even had kors k (from beatmania iidx and other bemani titles) come out and perform. it's an amazing show. mydjsobad had a booth at fanime 2010 selling cds and such. i'm not sure if eddie said that he got a booth for mydjsobad this year, but i hope so!

No booth this year, but he's coming. MyDjSoBad isn't the actual production of this, they're more just a contact with the DJs. But just to let you know in advance, suggesting them is kind of pointless. A lot of staff are actually personal friends of Eddie's and talks have been thrown around here and there. It's nice to show support though, but staff knows of the existance and Eddie+Nick know of Fanime. So if it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't.

i know how it all works. i know eddie personally myself, also, via bemani and music gaming. i still hope and pray some day eddie can bring out the dudes for a show in norcal sometime, so i figured i'd plug it to show there's still a /lot/ of interest in seeing Hardcore Synergy Fanime Edition
I'd like to see supercell with nagi on vocals.
I personally do not care much for Hatsune Miku.
Doesn't sound natural enough and too many high notes.

This guy is an old MMA& UFC (mix marital arts& ultimate fight champ) fighter retired turned to music and entertainment. His videos on youtube all have over 1million views. He has done events in New york and done events in the states so im betting he would be willing to come to fanime.
Hes new to the Japanese music and no other con to my knowledge has gotten him yet.

I was thinking of 2PM...their Japanese debut single, Take Off, is the first ending for Blue Exorcist/Ao no Exorcist. I have also noticed that Japan is going through a heavy Hallyu Wave at this moment :/
2PM I know HAS performed in SF as well as a few other US cities as the opener for the Wonder Girls (a girl kpop group). Two of the members I think know pretty good English...I know one was literally scouted in LA at the Korean Music Festival. :/ I suppose it's a start.
Big Bang and 2NE1!
Maaya Sakamoto would be excellent as others have mentioned. She's also one of my favorite voice actresses as well.
Eddy knows very well about the dance budget situation. The dance had ZERO budget for headliners. Any headliners or extra equipment (like the equipment in the 2nd room and the lighting for the stage) was paid for or provided by the heads of the dance (LOL, me). Eddy was busy working the deal with ACEN and didn't get back to us in time to arrange a co-sponsorship deal for 2011, but we are already negotiating for 2012.
the kpop artists that have performed in the city get a significant amount of money to perform (probably exceeds fanime's budget) the tickets for the events at mighty start at 50 (which is 5 less than a pre-reg fanime pass). the promoter makes money from a % of the bar, table commission, and sponsorships... none of which are replicable at fanime. perhaps you can convince that promoter to throw an event in san jose during the con so you can walk to it.
My own suggest for Musicfest (which is what this thread is about) is: morning musume

Sounds fair enough.
I second MoMusu. I believe they have performed at AX and Japan Expo. :/
I'll also add that I would suggest kanonxkanon/Kanon Wakeshima, PIKO, supercell, UVERworld, Aqua Timez, and Aya Hirano. Just some ideas...
Ah yes! I would LOVE to see FLOW again!! They always put on a great show :3
Petition for the return of FLOW for a third year plz
Also starting up the Shoji Meguro suggestion up again
YES please bring back FLOW!! their concert was amazing (as was Yuya's) ^^
Some of my friends are going to try to run me over with a lawnmower, but...
FLOW please ;)
Yes bring FLOW back~ We can be their American con and make it a tradition for them to come to Fanime. That would be so awesome.
I didn't mention it in my previous post but definitely bringing FLOW back every year would be fantastic. I didn't manage to get their autographs though but that's understandable with the line.
UVERworld, The GazettE or Girugamesh! <3
^I second everything.
Yes FLOW!!!! like someone mentioned it would be amazing if they could come every year as a tradition!! I would be there every year if they made it back!! So please try and bring FLOW back!!! :D
FLOW again.
abingdon boys school
T.M.Revolution
Acid Black Cherry
and of course:
SIAM SHADE. Get them to re-unite for Fanime. (Ahaha, like that would happen, but a girl can dream, right? I need to see them live again.)
Please, don't bring back FLOW. Unless they come back like Momoi keeps coming back (I really do love that!)
Aside from the fact have zero interest in FLOW and don't care for their music....
We need variation! I was going to try to catch Yuya (not exactly my favorite music either, but it seemed fun enough) but was too starving to after my Yoshiki fest.
I don't really have a particular suggestion, but I would like to see some showy J-Pop or something. I'll be honest, I won't be super into any of the bands that come, my J-rock fandom days are kind of over, but if a band is going to put on a really fun performance and I am okay with their music.... I'll go!
I'd really like to go to musicfest again! So stop bringing FLOW.
Quote from: Armored-Heart on May 19, 2011, 02:36:44 PM
And I'll also suggest Arashi. Hey, nobody's mentioned in the thread that it had to be possible. :B
Good suggestion on Arashi, but bringing them here requires more funds that Fanime needs AND security due to their popularity. Not even the SJ convention center is big enough to hold a very huge crowd given the fact how much they can bring to their concert alone.
I would like to see Yuya Matsushita to come back again. His performances was great!
Maybe we can have MoonStream back again as actual MusicFest performers this time instead of just signing autographs in the AA? >w<
I think a great combo for next year would be: Home made kazoku and FLOW! Both of these bands would be amazing to see, since they are very talented and popular! The concert would be amazing since they did a song together a few years ago that they could perform together on stage! I think they would be a great choice for next year (or future years) since they both have such a large fan base. This is what I would suggest!
Aldious! This all-girl metal band is incredible. I know people who would come to Fanime Con specifically for this band.
Don't know much about them? Well, check them out!

FLOW again please. I just love them live. It would be amazing if they became a Fanime tradition.
UVERworld pleaseee<3 They're my favorite band of all times.
also may'n & yui.
2pm would be nice too :) they do have a japanese single thats used in ao no exorcist.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I'd like to ask that the suggestions stick to "WANTS" rather than "DO NOT WANT"s. Quite honestly, that's a lot more helpful for us staff, and also, it keeps things a bit more polite since label reps DO check the forums every now and then.
As a side note:
With how wonderful FLOW has been to attendees and staff these past two years, saying that you don't want them back is slightly rude to them =/

Well, nix the parts about their music not being my taste.
I do actually think they're talented. I do.
But honestly, I used to look forward to the variety of guests we'd get. I have to say, for me, having a band be a guest again and again and again is crummy for me. Especially with the merged concerts, where I couldn't figure out accurate info about who was performing when.
Let me put it this way.
I loved AnCafe. It was a fun concert. If AnCafe was back EVERY SINGLE YEAR I'd probably go once or twice, then you know what? I've seen their performance. It's a long line to wait in.
I appreciate FLOW's participation, because I know so many people had a lot of fun. This is just my personal opinion. I don't like seeing the same person headline over and over again, and that would apply to almost everyone. (ALMOST.)
And the only reason I brought it up is because everyone else is saying "Let's do FLOW again, for the third year" and I really do want to go to Musicfest again. =/
Also, something I love about Fanime is seeing who is showing up! I love seeing our regular guests, but with big events like Musicfest... I think it's really exciting when those are announced. My first thought is "YAYYYYY MUSICFEST"
Or maybe if we're doing FLOW again have three acts? That would be kind of epic. Especially if we featured different styles of music or something.

I think that people requesting for certain bands to return for whatever number of times is valid. It's equally valid as those who request huge name musicians who are currently on hiatus/just too big for our budget or musicians who tour the United States constantly. It's okay to request because MF wants to hear your voice!
I believe that we have been trying our best to vary the styles that MusicFest has showcased over the past few years that I've taken over Extravaganzas.
You've mentioned that you want variety in our musical guests. I think this year MF has done extremely well in giving more variety over the past years with Matsushita Yuya (whose style is smooth R&B/Pop) and FLOW (Pop/Rock). They have two very different styles of music and gave us a fantastic concert this past Saturday. Last year, we had FLOW and LM.C (Visual Kei). The previous year to that, we had Halko Momoi (Akiba-kei). We also had An Cafe (oshare kei) with Ramen & Rice opening up for them.
So we're definitely trying to break out of the mold of just one specific genre and we've been unsuccessful at bringing a female group. We've had a few who wanted to come but they had to pull out due to scheduling.
As for the bigger, "showy" JPop names, that takes us a lot of time (years!) to build a relationship with their label and a LOT of money. But we're working on it.
We do hear your voice for (or against) them but please understand that MF is doing all they can to make some of your wishes come true.

So THAT'S how it works. I was always wondering how MF was able to get such huge artists. I know it's not a simple matter of going door-to-door asking companies.
This is pretty impossible, but I really do want to see T.M.Revolution/Abingdon Boys School ;____;. I'm an absolutely huge fan, and would go bonkers if he came. Then again, if he did come, I would probably wait in line all day just to be first. Nevertheless, that would be amazing. And of course, I wouldn't mind seeing FLOW again.

I'm not saying you're doing a bad job. =) You've gotten some really big names these past few years. Musicfest has become insanely popular.
I may have just been unlucky, because I know people LIKE these bands. I just happen to not like the styles since.... well, Momoi. I like some of the genres, just not the specific sounds from the bands.
I was actually going to go to LM.C, but I left my camera in my bag and didn't want to go all the way back up to my high-floored hotel room and back. Argh. I got to the door before realizing it too.
Anyhow, it's hard for me to make suggestions in this topic that make sense, because my music taste is erratic. I might like bands 1 2 and 4, but 3, which is almost the same to most people, I hate. Or the opposite. I'm really picky about songs/bands/ etc.
What will get me around usually (even if the music isn't my FAVORITE) is a band that is either fairly serious, or really kooky. When someone is serious I can be like "Yeah. Seriously." but when they're kind of off the wall I can be like "You're reeeeeally odd. But that's kind of intriguing."
Fluffy pop is actually, mostly fun to me. There's been plenty of bad Jpop where I was like "I know this isn't even good, but gosh it's cute/fun!" (like all those bands that were formed by companies and
TLDR;
Frivolous Jpop?

YES. AGREE. rawr!
I'm still kicking myself after all these years for missing Nami Tamaki!!! I've been a huge fan of hers since 2003, but somehow didn't know she appeared at Fanime until 2009! *yeah, how the hell does THAT work, right??*
Anyways, here's my list:
T.M.Revolution
Nami Tamaki
Gazette
FLOW *they're too good not to come again lol!*
My boyfriend just introduced me to this new FEMALE ROCK BAND,
Aldious. I think these women are incredible and could totally pull off an amazing show *___*
Of course, my number one and probably impossible request: OKUI MASAMI. She's my idol and absolute dream concert... just needed to express that, even though I know (well, thanks to Yoshiki, I can't say IMPOSSIBLE! haha!) it would be "extremely difficult" for Fanime to get her, but just imagine...... <3
ORANGE RANGE
@Amanojaku OH! I just scrolled down and saw you put ALDIOUS too! <3 YESSSS BRING THESE CHICKS OVER THEY'RE AMAZING!! I don't think we'd be getting X JAPAN (can you imagine the lines for Music Fest?!), but these girls are so incredibly talented!!!
I would love to see Yuya Matsushita again too! Now that I've had the chance to hear his music, I want to see him again :D I think a lot of people can agree, he's a real showman!
X Japan is a bit of a stretch to get over here, but they did say they'd have another North American tour after their worldwide tour starting this summer. Cross our fingers and hope they can make Fanime one of their stops ;)

Does Fanime/MF have a good relationship with Sony Japan? Considering Nami Tamaki, An Cafe, FLOW, and Yuya are Sony's...TROLOLOL
I'll ask for SCANDAL, the Gazette, and YUI as well then :D
Hatsune Miku live would be interesting to see, even if
it's not "natural" it's still cool to see the new 3d technology for the vocaloid concerts --
--- I'd suggest Dir en Grey too, but ... I'm not sure if the small concert hall

Well, some K-Pop groups also participate in the J-Pop scene. Some groups like 2PM, Brown Eyed Girls, and I think SHINee have a few songs in Japanese.

Well, some K-Pop groups also participate in the J-Pop scene. Some groups like 2PM, Brown Eyed Girls, and I think SHINee have a few songs in Japanese.
We take suggestions of all kinds, as long as the artists are relevant =P The cavaet is, how do we measure relevancy?
For example, SHINee just sold 50K+ units of their JP debut single release yesterday, and another 18K+ today, just behind AKB48's Maeda Atsuko. But since this is a debut, and they haven't been in the scene long enough yet, who's to say how long they'll be in the scene? And KARA...they were doing spendidly on the charts for a bit before they had their own little internal drama going on that had folks questioning if they were going to stick together or not. It's a constantly changing scene, so I'd rather encourage suggestions than discourage them. MusicFest has to predict a year in advance as to who will do well for the next year, so we don't set up hard rules for who
won't be considered =P
(unless it's someone who really doesn't make sense...like Chris Brown or something, lol) In short (LOL), everybody is free to say who they want, but through research/knowledge/common sense, MusicFest will filter through the suggestions to decide who makes the best fit.

LET'S BRING IN SOME K-POP! It was really popular this year considering the number of people who attended the K-Pop panels and it would be nice to have something different for a change.

Alright, that's all fair.
I supposed the Asian relevancy is the only key factor.
I suppose I was speaking from a slightly bias stance since I don't favor K-pop,
but there are some good artists out there no matter where they're from, right? :-0

Definitely VOCALOID ! WAIT I MISSED YUYA'S CONCERT AND AUTOGRAPH SIGNING :O SO BRING BACK YUYA, YES ?
Bring Yuya and LM.C back!
Also
One ok Rock
SuG
Uverworld
Ayabie
Sadie (:
Kalafina and Nirgilis!!!
MegRock (there should be a star between that but I don't have JP on my keyboard and I'm lazy).
Besides being in the industry forever, she did a lot of major songs. Strangely, she's relatively unknown over here sadly. Card Captor Sakura, she wrote the OP to Gurren Lagaan, just to name two of the major contributions she's done.
Plastic Tree and Onmyo-za *u*!!
or even MOMOIRO CLOVER-Z!! They are so energetic and their lives are full of hype!! I would die if Momoclo-Z came to Fanime
personally I would love to see FLOW back again. I travel specifically to see these guys, and will do it a third fourth and fifth time if they keep coming back. As for other bands I would love to see Orange Range or maybe a Visual Kei band. I'm not a fan of their music but I'm sure Asian Kung Fu generation would be popular, though I'm personally not a fan of their music.

I second this! FLOW is just so amazing! I would see them as many times as possible! Thank you MF for making our, FLOW-fans, dreams come true! :)
lol, for shits and grins, how about isao sasaki?
j/k
if i was the thing, i'm now looking at pyronikari saying "flame on"
Versailles. PLEEEEAAAASE~!! ;AAA;
Also, SuG would be awesome to see~!! ^^ And omg, if you guys got Yuya to come back next year, I WOULD DIE HAPPY~!! XD
I would LOVE to have Fanime get SID to come! I'd buy a Black Butler cosplay just for the concert!

I also second 2PM. (Or first if you weren't actually suggesting... -.-; ) They did the first ED for Ao no Exorcist so it is not like they don't do JP songs.
I'm sure that there are other artists that I'd love to come. Although I wouldn't mind for AnCafe to come back, I'd probably love some of the other popular groups that haven't come to fanime yet. I don't really search out new bands so much anymore so it is rather fun to hear new stuff. And sadly most of my (utmost) favorite bands are disbanded so yeah... -.-;
One I'd like but it probably is unlikely....
Megumi Hayashibara (Slayers, Ranma, Love Hina, etc.)
Most likely not happening but will attempt anyway
1. Hokago Tea Time (K-ON! seiyuu and the band that is actually behind the music)
2. Sphere
3. ClariS
4. L'Arc-en-Ciel
5. T.M. Revolution
6. Mizuki Nana
Possible choices
1. Kalafina
2. Uverworld
3. Maximum the Hormone
I would like to see both FLOW and Matsushita Yuya return if possible.
Adding on to the long list that I've had queued for the last three years or so, I recently found out about 7!! (read: Seven oops) and they're really good. Though they're really, REALLY new (they just debuted from their indies career this year), and don't have as many songs under their belt as seasoned bands. But, considering there's quite a while between now and next May, I think there's possibly enough time for them to have a few more releases before Fanime rolls around.
7!!'s first single was used as the theme song for the live-action manga adaptation movie High School Debut (and a PUFFY cover they did is also in the movie), and their second single is used as the Naruto opening (don't know which). Their involvement in the anime industry is apparent though still just starting, but it'd be really exciting to see their style of music at Fanime...
LIIIINK to YouTube

tl;dr
7!! (Seven oops), new-ish band, High School Debut, Naruto, new sound for Fanime?
atm I would love to see a Miku 3D concert xp and KANON WAKESHIMA! COME ON WE NEED HER HERE!!! <3 EVERYONE GETS TO SEE HER BUT US BAY AREA PEOPLE!!! NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED <3<3<3
-EDIT- The Gazettes :) and Kalafina<3<3
Jrock:
- the GazettE
- PIKO
- alicenine.
- UVERworld
- Aqua Timez
Seiyuu:
If a 3D Vocaloid concert is impossible at this point, is there any chance of inviting some utaite from Nico Nico Douga to FanimeCon?
- Shounen T
- Soraru
- Miichan
- Pokota
- Kettaro

YES FLOW :D
I would return just to see FLOW again (I wasn't even their fan until this year's concert!) They really know how to work up a crowd. All my friends (who had no knowledge of FLOW before) became fans immediately after too! Their concert really was a lot of fun.
I know it's their third year but (maybe this is an incorrect usage of the idiom) "Why fix it if it ain't broke"? I really would love it if they came back! And scrolling through the thread I see that a majority agrees with me/would love to see to it become a Fanime tradition :D
IN SUMMARY.
Want:FLOW
Heh and perhaps ANCAFE if thats not too much to ask from the Fanime gods. Should I make some offerings? XD
And reading some posts a few pages back, I would also love to see Arashi, but I know now that that's most likely impossible~ ^^;;
And another suggestion: How about the Idolm@ster seiyuus~? :D

I totally agree with you! :D for the past two years my friends and I have traveled to fanime specifically to watch FLOW! We would love if this became a yearly tradition! I love san jose, fanimecon, and of course FLOW! We hope they can come back very soon :)
Ahhhh, I just thought of someone else who would be AMAZING~!! ^__^
Jun Fukuyama
I know he's kinda big, but he is greatly involved with anime, being a voice actor for it. :P And yes, he does sing~! XD He has character songs and a couple albums out~ :'D Just thought I'd make the suggestion~ <33
I think Vic Migongna should be part of MusicFest for Fanime2012.
FLOW again would be awesome, they're brilliant live.
as for anyone else, i'd be beyond happy if any of these bands could swing by
UVERworld
Galileo Galilei
Scandal
coldrain
NICO Touches the Walls
Stereopony
Asian Kung-Fu Generation
abingdon boys school
Pay Money To My Pain
I really wanna see LM.C, Alice Nine, SHINee, t.A.T.u or The Gazette
The Brehms and Eyeshine.
I flew in from Indiana for Fanime 2010 to see LM.C and they were absolutely AMAZING!! I also really liked Fanime and San Jose as well! So, I would love to come back period, but I would really love to come back and see LM.C again!! ;D So, here's my list:
LM.C
Maximum the Hormone
Sug
Gackt
The Gazette
:)
Ok, so I have a couple more suggestions. >.< I know I keep posting here with them but, hey, that's what this thread's for, right~? XD
Anyways, they are:
The Gazette
Lolita 23Q
I know others have suggested the Gazette, but I only recently started getting into them. ^^;; Same with Lolita 23Q. Both are great bands. 8D I'd love to see either of them. :3 Buut, my top suggestions are still Versailles and SuG, and perhaps for Yuya to come back. >_<;; Gah, but I'd be happy with any of my suggestions, if any of them do appear at Fanime's MusicFest next year. :'D
Access
[My favorite band]
Code Geass - season 1 3rd opening theme song
D. Gray-man - 3rd opening theme song
Jungle no Ouja Taachan 2nd ending song
ive been telling my friends for years how i think Maximum the hormone would be epic. just imagine the mosh pit for the theme song for death note.
abrington boys school seems like an impossibility but that would top anything i believe
Perfume, Capsule, anything produced by Yasutaka Nakata.
Maximum the Hormone sounds
very good to me. :-D

Mod edit: made into MF suggestions thread....cuz it...kinda is MF:P
I second this thought! I would LOVE to have Hatsune Miku at Fanime 2012! Her other concerts were kind of far from where I live so I was never able to go.. :(
I was thinking that maybe Yuya Matsushita should come again in 2012 ??? cuz I didn't get to see the concert this year :'( It ended too late and I didn't have a hotel so..ya.. :-\
School Food Punishment
NICO Touches Walls
Elisa
Any of these three would completely make my con.
I'd also enjoy seeing Scandal, Home Made Kazoku, or Nirgilis.
could we get DOES? can't deny that electric guitar sound, man...
Let's get Afilia Saga East!
A cute idol group with an rpg/anime theme that I know would go over well at Fanime. ^^
Their music was featured in Steins:Gate.
Here's one of their songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaxgAiiepGc
I even brought it up at Momoi's Q&A since she is their producer.(I have no idea if that actually increases the chance of them coming over XD )
So come on staff, let's bring these girls to Fanime.
I forgot if I mentioned BORN yet...
But in case I did forget,
BORN!
Oh my God, please, please, please try for Tegomass!!!! Or even their main group, NEWS! They sound so amazing!!! My second choice would be Berryz Koubou - a cute girlband.
Hmm...I just thought of another idea! What about ClariS? I think it'd be cool if they came to Fanime haha.
I definetly would love it if more kpop groups can come cause they are apart of asian culture.
Groups like MBLAQ, Shinee, 2PM, SS501, Girls Generation, Taeyang, Teen Top[/color]. Also maybe jpop artists like Boa Kwon, June, Utada Hikaru and Yuya again.

Thank you so much for mentioning AKB. I'm an IMMENSE fan of them. Lots of people don't know them here at Fanime, so having them come would be something new. Yea sure, they aren't related to anime, but I'm telling you...
they are so incredibly popular/famous in Japan I didn't think it'd be possible. Selling over 1 million copies of their 23rd single "Flying Get" is pretty impressive if you ask me. And yet, barely anybody knows them at all here in America. Last year I suggested AKB48 to come to Fanime and I got some negative responses. I don't know what's the problem with them coming over. I mean they came to Anime Expo, there was no problem. If you got any objections, HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT. (sorry for this long explanation/vent xD)

Is this a challenge? Okay, sure, besides the main group having so many members, if we were to have them as a guest. That would be roughly... 50 people we would be paying for. 50 plane tickets from Japan and back, + hotel rooms to accomadate all of them. The reason why they came to the other places, were that they paid for themselves. So, here's the thing, you're looking at roughly..80k to bring AKB48 here including managers, etc. Now... that 80k could be used to bring... 3 even 4 musical guests out here. Or 2 musical guests, a director, an artist, and a voice actor even.
It's not that they're unknown... AKB48 is known. It's more or less, do people like tem. AKB48 is popular in Japan, they are... but they're not mainstream. They're still very niche culture that likes them. It's the same as Hello Project. Yeah, they're popular, no denying. When they were at their peak in the early to mid 2000's They were even more popular. But they're not mainstream pop culture to the same extent that many other groups are. Hell even the K=pop invasion is growing more in popularity than AKB48 is. And if Fanime were to spend that much money? I would much rather see a really popular group... Like Perfume.

Well if you didn't know, when they came to Anime Expo, only 16 came. I do believe that they can pay for themselves again, I'm pretty sure AKB48 isn't a dirt poor group. They're pretty successful. 16 would still be a lot right? 16 tickets from Japan and back + hotel rooms would probably be around $20,000. If AKB48 couldn't pay for themselves to get here, how did they get to both LA and NYC in the first place?
And I'm not sure about what you mean "mainstream". I went to Japan in August and I seriously can't describe how popular they are over there. Yea Kpop is very popular in Japan, but surely they aren't more popular than AKB48. Obviously, KPop is way more popular than AKB48 in America, but I already said, it'd be introducing a new famous group to a lot of the Fanime goers.
Why are we talking about popularity anyways? It's not like Yuya Matsushita was very well known here before Fanime 2011. I never heard of him, and, be honest, a lot of people didn't know him as well. Don't get me wrong, Yuya is a cool guy. I loved his performance.
As for their popularity stateside, I don't pay attention to pop music at -all- and even I know who they are (and know that I don't like them, but that's beside the point), and know other people who know them. I think you might be underestimating their popularity here, since they aren't unknown by any means, and you are making it out to seem like they are. (The only recent Musicfest guest that I knew before the con was LMC, and pretty much only because they did the ending themes to Red Garden... which I only know because JiLL-Decoy association did the opening theme, haha)

Yes... I know all of this very well. Here's the thing. They invited themselves. They said "We would like to go to your event and we will pay for our own tickets". There's a difference between this and saying "Hey, we would like you to come to our event, BUT YOU NEED TO PAY FOR YOURSELF". The latter is extremely unprofessional, rude, and if anything else, just plain insulting. Besides that, it makes Fanime look like poor pathetic losers.
Look, I follow music in Japan better than you do. I follow the culture in general better than you do. AKB48 is popular, yes. There's no doubt, I stated this pretty clearly. But the target audience is not the general public. Your average person, is not a fan of AKB48 as their music is very... ... specific in appeal. I'm guessing you never actually took the time to really understand the lyrics of a lot of their songs, because they're rather... I don't know the correct word to use here. Innuendo-ey? But not in the normal way, in a very well, you either get it or you don't.
And I'm not talking about K-pop itself. K-pop itself is not popular in Japan at all... But Korean Artists that are coming to Japan and making JP music are.
See, here's what bothers me a lot about your posts. You speak as if you are a representitive of what is popular, what is know, what is unknown. Yuya was unknown? Really? A LOT LOT LOT LOT of Kuroshitsuji fans would agree with you. *I* knew who he was, and I don't like kuroshitsuji. But to double it up, Durarara was insanely popular during its run, and Trust Me... did well.
It's fine that you want to suggest AKB48, but please do not speak as if you know better than other people. You went to Japan, you follow things. But you do not know more than other people so please stop assuming and speaking like you do.
Still hoping for Versailles.
L'Arc~en~Ciel would be awesome, as would SID and LM.C

Why are we talking about popularity anyways? It's not like Yuya Matsushita was very well known here before Fanime 2011. I never heard of him, and, be honest, a lot of people didn't know him as well. Don't get me wrong, Yuya is a cool guy. I loved his performance.
It really is about knowing the target audience, and the target audience that I'm most concerned with is the one here in the Bay Area.
Our audience is vastly different from others in America, let alone in comparison to the music audience in Japan, so there are a lot of factors that go into who we get as MusicFest guests, but the whole "omg-they're-too-popular-to-come-here!"argument is really a non-issue.
That being said, we take every suggestion seriously, so feel free to ask for whoever you want, but again, there are other things that affect our final decisions..
Utada Hikaru, SID, LM.C, and L'Arc~en~Ciel
The GazettE
nuff said.
Well..
If I had other choices then
Lm.C
Piko
Sug
Miyavi
Girugamesh
I'd love to see Do As Infinity, YUI, Perfume, or dream out here (especially Do As Infinity though). Unlikely, I know, but I can dream lol
I say we see SUG. SUG would be completely awesome at fanime
FLOW, LM.C, AAA, Novels, Union Square Garden, Aobouzu, Tamaki, or Sonar Pockets
GOLDEN BOMBER~!!!!!
OK..I am still building my tastes for this particular area of musical stuffs, but I suppose I can make a few humble requests :)
Kanon Wakeshima: Saw her at AM2 and really liked her. My pipe dream is that she team up with Apocalyptica someday, even if it's just for one song XD
Buck-Tick: This one is for my husband. He got into the theme song of Trinity Blood when we were going through the series and next thing I know he has their catalog.
SCANDAL: Kind of bummed I missed their AM2 show, but I admit that we were quite unfamiliar with them until after the fact (and even if we wanted to see them, other things were kind of in the way).
I'll put in a Kalafina vote as well, because I've heard just enough of their stuff to be interested in their live show.

Speaking of BUCK-TICK, I'd really like to see them too~
And while we're at it, I'd like to put MUCC on the list as well. I didn't get into them until recently, but it'd be magic to see them live~
It's been so long since I listened to BUCK-TICK, I should probably get back to that :)
Aqua Times, Folder 5, or Rednex.
Oh, and I almost forgot: DJ Splash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl2wDEU85Ek)
Will stress again that I would really, really, really love to see School Food Punishment there. I love their music and seeing them live would be amazing. Please please please try and do this. I would love Fanime for eternity. Well, I do already, but still.......

Please bring FLOW!! I will keep traveling hundreds of thousands of miles to Fanime just to see FLOW.
Also on my list:
LM.C again!
SuG!!!! Plleeaaasseee!! SuG would be amazing! SuG would be great!
Yui!
So in a nutshell, FLOW, SuG, LM.C, Yui!

I'd love to see:
SuG- They're a really happy upbeat band that I think they would put on an amazing show!
Yuya Matsushita- I missed his concert and I love his music!
the gazettE- They're my favorite Jrock band! I love their songs and I always wanted to see them live!
Vocaloid- It it's possible that'd be amazing!
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu- I love her! She sings PONPONPON but she's getting popular.
SID- They're awesome! They sing a lot of op and endings for animes.
SCANDAL- They're an all girl rock band. They sang an opening for bleach.
While we're at it, do you think we can get Tyga or Jibbs or Gorilla Zoe to come?
L33tStr33t Boys.....They're pretty awesome.
I still wonder if Arashi would be too much of a hassle for Fanime to get. o.o"
Natsuko Aso. I have no idea if this is feasible for Fanime, but it would be an awesome concert.

Utada Hikaru
SID
SuG
LM.C
Gackt
L'Arc~en~Ciel
I would love Flow(their performances are just so fun) and/or Yuya Matsushita again (I missed their autographs!!) ;D
I also would like to suggest:
T.M. Revolution (Rurouni Kenshin, Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, Soul Eater, Sengoku Basara, Bleach movie 4)-My dream is to see him live. One can wish right?
Uverworld (Bleach, Ao no Exorcist, Gundam 00, D.Gray-man, Blood+, Terra E)
SID (FMA: Brotherhood, Bleach, Kuroshitsuji)
Yui (FMA: Brotherhood, Bleach)
L'Arc-en-ciel (FMA, Gundam 00, GTO, FMA movie, Seirei no Moribito)
Rookiez is Punk'd (Ao no Exorcist, Durarara!!, Bleach)

Girugamesh would be so awesome~
Korean~but they still did anime! ;)
Younha (Bleach, Ride Back, Jyu Oh Sei, Kiba)
2pm (Ao no Exorcist)
BoA (Inuyasha)...I love the opening she sings for Tales of Graces (Mamoritai~White Wishes~) and many of her other songs ;D
Woo that was a lot~

Just a note... SuperCell switched singers, and Nagi is no longer the female vocal, so they probably wouldn't do the Bakemonogatari music if they did come... As a side note, I've had their album Today is a Beautiful Day on repeat for the past two weeks.
UVERworld and BACK-ON.
I know they're already mentioned, but I'm throwing my vote in as well.
Please bring someone from the K-pop section. I think K-pop should be allowed cause they are getting really popular and some of them are starting to have songs on anime shows. It would be so awesome to have girls generation or Shinee to show up. Or even U-kiss. I think its time for Fanime to atleast change up the musicfest guests.
Kageyama Hironobu, he's like the king of anime songs
how about the Pillows?, as they are not strangers to the Bay Area ;D

I would LOVE to see Girls Generation live, but their so huge right now and getting bigger over here so I bet that would be insanely hard to pull off. I would also love F.T. Island, but I don't know if they have a big following in the anime world.
But I do completely agree that some K-pop would be an awesome addition to the line up.
In case I forgot to push them enough earlier...
or if I just didn't mention them at all(?)
UVERworld!
( ; /A ;) /
I'm practically rolling around from just finishing marathoning Ao no Exorcist xD...Should get some sleep.
If you can, Maximum the Hormone, or Dir En Grey
Maybe Yuya Matsushita again, Gackt(although his appearance might be super expensive/dangerous), Daichi Miura, Utada Hikaru, L'Arc En Ciel, or even TaeYang(maybe?).
Denki Groove
Gazette!!!!!~ Uverworld is nice too~
how about lolliholix/NeRiMa. they hail from san antonio, texas and they are actually quite good.
Ok, I don't think they've been mentioned(and I know I've suggested enough, already), but..... I'm gonna suggest one more, here~ ^^;;

I've watched their youtube performances live, and they are beyond brilliant. Their vocalist is amazing, and has that naturally amazing voice without any need for fancy editing work (or editing at all really). They also did the OP for Naruto Shippuden, "Blue Bird." [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-rwfMvgaLs] --the singing starts at around 2:00--the intro is just really epic.

I'd love to see a Bemani artist like Ryu*.
Fanime seriously needs to stop bringing back the same artists all the time. When I spend my money at a convention I like to see new artists everytime I go. It is alright if years down the line they want to bring them back but seriously bringing them back all the time. I don't see how people want to keep returning especially when they never announce anything ahead of time. Fanime needs to start looking up to Project A-kon in Dallas, Texas. They always know whats going on months and months in advance so it draws people in. They have already had their music concert artists up already for a long time now and they start the beginning of June and seriously Fanime completely nothing on whats going on. But anyways I would love to see these artists at Fanime:
*The visual kei artist "D" I swear Asagi's voice is so AMAZING!
*X-Japan
*The Gazette
*Mantenrou Opera
*Nightmare
*T.M. Revolution
*Dir en Grey
*Uverworld
I have to say that 2004 Fanime was they best year for musical artists by bringing "Blood", "Duel Jewel" and "Nami Tamaki". But throughout the years there would be only one band or none that were good in my opinion with repeats. If I was going to have bands come back I would love to see: Blood, Duel Jewel, Nami Tamaki, ZZ, Kamijo from Lareine which is now in Versailles, Poplar,Karma Shenjing and D'espairs Ray which performed as a separate concert from Fanime but they had to disband because of the lead singers rare throat condition. :( Please Fanime all I ask is that you start being more prepared and knowing what artists, etc. is going to happen ahead of time like A-kon does, it helps a lot to make a decision on wanting to pre-register or not since there isn't any info to go on.
I would love to see Yuya Matsushita-san again.
If I listen all the bands I'd like to see below it would be two full pages.
=D
Back-on
Aqua Timez
Hyadain
Enough said
VOCALOID!!!!YA!! they should come!! ^u^
;D
Eyeshine! lol
You guys basically made my decade with Yuya, so thanks for that.
As for artists for this year, I would recommend Yuna Ito because she has an amazing voice, and she would be able to communicate with the fans and community easily due to her being from America in the first place.
Since I'm pretty much Yuya's biggest fan (self named), I doubt he'll make it to Fanime. According to his schedule, he'll be performing elsewhere during Fanime Q_Q
I would love to see my favorite twins, On/Off (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On/Off). They sing the opening songs for Vampire Knight/Vampire Knight Guilty, as well as one of the endings for Durarara!!, and the second opening for Beelzebub. I've been a big fan of them since long before they did any anime, though. :D
'm a big fan of Hatsune Miku, and I would love for her to perform at this year's FanimeCon
My wife want An Cafe to come back
I would like to put in another vote for Kalafina. I would quite possibly camp out to just get the chance to see them.
I would love to see Rie fu live--she's sung a handful of anime openings/endings (Bleach, Gundam Seed Destiny, Darker than Black, D.Gray-man, and most recently, Hourou Musuko/Wandering Son), and she speaks fluent English (spent years in USA/UK).
Another artist you guys could probably bring back (in a way) is Mai Fukui; she's no longer a part of POPLAR ('06 guest), but she's gone solo and has been doing reasonably well (in my opinion, at least).

Oh no~!! ;AAA; Ah well, maybe he'll be back next year~ ><"
On another note, I'm gonna push Versailles one more time...... 8DD I can't ask enough for them, can I~? ;AAA;"
I went to a concert in Japan in November (on "Culture Day") called @JAM. You can see pictures of @JAM here - http://www.at-jam.jp/2011/gallery/
I had a ticket lined up for a really cool DJ event the night before for a CD Release Party for the album "I <3 Tokyo for Anime Music Lovers", but I was dead tired and fell asleep... woke up more tired than when I took a nap! It ran from 11:30pm-5am... so I would have been dead for @JAM, so at least I got rest for that. :)
I saw LiSA for the first time live at @JAM and I'm now a HUGE fan! The music is great and her encore song is so much fun live... it's similar to making the hand gestures for the song YMCA, but it's spelling LISA instead. The whole band does it and everyone loves it. You can see a video of it here from her performance at AFA the weekend after:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFRAQb9C0FY
She puts on a great live show and I would definitely see her again if she came to any con on the west coast. Right now people only know her from her music for Angel Beats (and now doing the OP for Fate/Zero), but I expect in the next few years she'll really grow in popularity and gather quite the fan base. I'd love for her to perform locally at Fanime, but I'll take what I can get. :)
SuG or the GazettE <3 :D or any other oshare or vk bands <3
To throw in my two cents. I would enjoy it if these artists came to Fanime this year.
Momoi Haruko - Cuz I've got a serious crush lol
Vocaloids - I'd be interested to see a concert of them "in person"
Maximum The Hormone - They can really get the juices pumping
Uverworld - I enjoy a lot of their music, not just from anime.
Megumi Hayashibara - Been a big fan since I was in middle school(23 now).

I second this. I'm already planning to cosplay Allelujah and my fiancee is Marie. We'd totally go the their show in cosplay.
But I think L'arc~En~Ciel should play. I mean, come on, they're already on a world tour. Why not?
I'm getting really excited, seeing that Musicfest is right around the corner-ish now. *U*b
Throwing this out last-minute, just add me to the rest of the +1 votes. xD maybe they'll make it next year? Hm.
ONE OK ROCK.
Fanime has always been late on putting things up sadly. I don't understand why they don't do things ahead of time like Project A-kon does. They always know who the guests are going to be as soon as they put pre-reg up so people know what they are buying unlike fanime :(. All I have to say is that I don't know who to talk to about this but Fanime needs to get together with Babel Entertainment which is a company that deals with anime cons such as A-kon, Oni-Con, Naka-Con, Anime Expo and tons of others directly to bring Japanese bands such as Blood Stain Child, D, Ayabie, Oz, Dir en Grey, L'Arc en Ciel, etc. to their venues.

I would LOOOVE Yuya again but I REALLY want 2pm to come. They are korean and everything but they did that song for Ao no Exorcist so I think they completely relate to this convention. sexy korean guys why not? ;D

Maybe its just you. because i know and have seen that Fanime has actually been good with keeping everyone up to date and putting things up and informing everyone about whats going on. Besides, if you're just buying a fanime ticket JUST for the concert thn thats kind of a waste of a ticket. :-\
Plus the reason they bring back the same bands over again is because its chosen by popular demand. so cut fanime some slack. they're only doing what the fans request. like their motto goes " made by fans, for fans"
Let's bring Momoiro clover Z! I love the weird structure to their songs. They do a lot of humor and sometimes come off like a parody of idol singers.

I think T-Pistonz+KMZ would be amazing.
So what if they only do things related to Inazuma Eleven.
;;>_>
It's been said on multiple occasions now, but once again SCANDAL would be an amazing band to bring to Fanime! Multiple OPs for Bleach and FMA, not to mention some of the best music and live performances I've seen. ^_^
DUDE. AQUA TIMEZ DUDE. BLEACH OP's and ED's also Naruto, Star Driver, and Brave Story
I would literally die if Perfume got to perform.
So they would definitely be my first vote.
My other votes would be for:
1. NICO Touches the Walls
2. SuG
3. SID
4. The GazettE
5. Psychic Lover
6. The Brilliant Green
My 3 others would have to be:
1. THE PILLOWS
2. MBLAQ
3. BIG BANG/GD & T.O.P
I understand that the last two are K-Pop, but the two music scenes have been mixing quite a lot, so I personally think it would be okay..!
I do love and support the choices of FLOW and Uverworld as well as Yuya Matsushita and 2PM..!! And..a lot of..other choices too.. orz ..they're all pretty great. ;;u;;
--also if Peelander-Z got to perform as well, that'd be pretty kick ass.
I think I forgot to mention him in a post before, but dude....Sekihan. [赤飯] Sekihan is a famous niconico singer who gained stardom from his covers of popular vocaloid songs. But, he's also an established solo artist, with many original songs as well. But I've never seen a guy give such a entertaining live performance XDDDD EVER. He cracks me up!

He also switches between his VK voice and an amazing upbeat tenor voice---> (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rScxgpPyf6Q&list=LL2_8L_xLyKi8xm3HCsS1Gbw&index=21&feature=plpp_video), and can also do opera (2:46 in the first link) XD he's hilarious!
*notices maid video clicking on nearby links.* What did I just watch? lol
LOL, oh my gosh that song...he's a genius xD I don't know of any American singer who would even consider prancing in a maid outfit on stage lol. But he definitely does it wonderfully.
What really gets me is when he is singing all cutesy and happily in his girl voice, in the maid outfit, but then suddenly switches to super screamo at 1:45; and then back to cute at 2:04 in a snap.
Ya know, UVERworld would be awesome to see, as well. :D Been watching Ao No Exorcist. ^^
I would LOVE to see T.M. Revolution (or his band Abingdon Boys School), PIKO, and Sekihan, and those two are friends and happen to complement each other well.

Throwing this out last-minute, just add me to the rest of the +1 votes. xD maybe they'll make it next year? Hm.

If T-Pistonz+KMZ came to Fanime, I would go crazy sjsbsh Inazuma fans unite uwu<33
Also, Kiryu would be awesome to see. XDD I heard he was at Katsucon. :3 I like his music. xDD

Hey, 2PM did the first ending to Ao No Exorcist. >A>" So there you go. =u= They might be the only K-pop group having any relation to anime, but, still. :U
On another note. Pushing for Versailles, yet again. ;A; But, I'll be happy with pretty much ANY visual kei band. xDD
I wish we could get some kind of announcement or update as to possible choices. I'm excited to find out whose coming this year. If they can swing Kalafina and/or Nirgilis, since I missed them at AX last year, that would be awesome. Nico Touches Walls too would be great. Or, by a long shot, Galneryus. I would LOVE seeing them in concert. Oh, and Angela. Always loved them and their live performance sounds as good as their recorded stuff.
I'm anxiously waiting, myself~ xDDD Wonder when they'll announce the first guest. :O
Fear and Loathing at Las Vegas. O_O YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Miyano Mamoru. Terashima Takuma - mkay just ask all of the Uta no Prince-sama people to come and sing. HURHURHUR //shot
Ok, here's my one last final push for Versailles. ;A; I know I'm probly just getting my hopes up too high, at this point, but, it's one of my biggest dreams to see them live. :c
SuG's my second pick, though. With LM.C as my third.
Hatsune Miku as well, Buono, L.M.C.
Calvin Harris and/or Tyga.
Please? :3
I'm just going to post this again since I hate posting more then once on a form. i'm weird leave that alone.
SuG. I've wanted them to come to fanime since 2010 so lets get them here please. They are my favorite Jrock band.
I think any one of these would be amazing:
THE PILLOWS
Supercell
UVERworld
Kanon Wakeshima
T.M.Revolution
FLOW
Matsushita Yuya
L'arc en ciel
SCANDAL
SID
Kalafina
Perfume
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
May'n
Matsushita Yuya OMGG PLEASE BRING HIM BACK
If not, then LM.C would be awesome as well! SuG, ViViD or ONE OK ROCK would be cool too~

I will die happy if SuG appears at Fanime this year. But I think that was obvious. 8D

You might understand how badly I want them at this Fanime. I just have been dying to see them live since I first saw one of their mvs years ago. Gah. Plus that signing. I'd really die a happy person getting Shinpei's autograph.

SuG's playing on 5/27 and 28 in Korea, so my guess is that they're not coming this year.

This makes me so sad.
Makes me very sad, too~ TT^TT But, least I'm aware of this, now, so I know what to expect, instead of them announcing Music Fest guests and not getting SuG, least now I'll know why. DD:
Would've loved to see "Crazy Bunny Coaster" as well as many of their other songs performed live, but ah well. ;w;"
More suggestons:
Brennan Heart
J King Y Maximan
Plan B
Baby Rasta Y Gringo
Ok, now I know it's probly too late to suggest anymore guests, now, but I don't think I've mentioned this one, and I dunno why I haven't, they're freaking amazing. :D
