Whoever nabbed the $88/night room at the Marriott from Thur-Monday....I HATE YOU.

All kidding aside, I was wondering if there was a way to guarantee a room to stay reserved no matter when you check in by paying early. I got a room from Thur-Mon at the Marriott and can't seem to figure out an option for pre-paying.

Sorry if I'm not supposed to ask general questions within this thread.

Oh crap, Monday?

I can't be the only one considering skipping school for this...

I can't think of any, but I can think anime that is dubbed well.

That'd be basically Cowboy Bebop (I think they only have the movie now) and Samurai Champloo probably.

Some people have argued Full Metal Alchemist has good dubbing, which I suppose it does, but I prefer Japanese voices for that one.

Samurai Champloo can go both ways as well, I've seen it both in English and Japanese and I think both were excellent.

I'm actually going to Fanime with 4 friends not just one, let me see if I can convince all of them to be pieces. :P

Well.. I personally have never stayed in the hilton or marriot due to them getting filled up as soon as they go on sale plus all the horror stories about how rowdy the people are, bad experiences with elevators, etc. I've stayed at the saint claire which doesn't get filled up quickly and is right across the street to the right of the con, four point which isn't that well known by the con goers so again it has lower rates and doesn't get filled up and its a bit of a walk but honestly worth it.
My boyfriend and I are staying at the saint claire this year because the rooms are nice and its a beautiful relaxing hotel with a classic feel and there probably won't be a bunch of crazy teenagers screaming til 2am.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I figure it's better than starting up a whole new thread when when my question is related.

What were the rates you had/will expct from St. Claire? I was planning on getting a room with for 4 and need to figure out how much everybody should be expected to save up.

Backed the project with the Archangel Pledge, wishing you the best of luck with this, I always loved artbooks.

Gaming / Re: What MMORPG are you playing?

If future and past MMO's count, I'm cancelling my SWTOR subscription in anticipation of GW2.

I'm now in a void of having neither game.

what side?^^

Um, he didn't say, though I think it'd be funny if he was white seeing as he looks completely white. Just don't tell him I said that :P

i limit the moves just so there's more to move around if that makes sense. and i would like castling but i have to refresh on the rules on that. and En Passant.......not really. very informal ^^ (bedsides if i start losing i might cheat >< ) were you at the game last year? there was someone there that was the Sacramento jr champ of chess, and he helped out a lot during a game ^^  if you want pick a game and we'll use that as base and go around it. ^^

I don't have any real preferences to the rules, you're the one hosting this, trust me, I'm pretty informal with chess too! This is actually the first Fanime I'm attending, and I haven't played chess in a very long time, I just wanted to make sure I understand all your rules so the game won't be ruined. I think I know what you mean by limiting the moves, it'd be boring if people relied on bishops and rooks too much and everybody else didn't get to move around and got nice leg cramps, lol.

HOW TO PLAY 101 or 102 which ever you want it to be ^^
Queen: in any direction but the "L" shape that the knight makes
Bishop: up to 5 in a diagonal  -only on the color that they start one if they start on white they can't move to black etc
Rook: up to 4 spaces in 1 direction. no diagonal only straight.
pawns: first move can be 2 spaces, only 1 after that. and can only move in 1 space diagonal if "attacking" but no going back wards.

Just had a couple questions with the rules you wanted to play by. When I used to play I used the World Chess Federation rules where rooks and bishops can move an infinite amount of spaces, but if you're going to limit their movement I wanted to just know three things, to make sure I'm not mistaken on the rules you want to use. I don't want to seem like a cheater when I make a move that's illegal in the ruleset you use.

1)Can Queens move as far as they want in each direction?
2)Are you going to allow castling?
3)Are you going to allow en passant?

I figured I should explain en passant since a lot of people haven't heard of this move (I actually forgot about it until I read about it right now while doing a refresher on chess moves). When a pawn moves two spaces forward, then the opposing pawn can capture it as if it moved only one space. This prevents a pawn from avoiding an enemy pawn by moving to their side with the two space movement. En passant can only be done right when it becomes available, otherwise you lose your right to it.

So in short:
1)If a pawn moves two spaces then it will be vulnerable to an en passant by opposing pawns
2)If an en passant is not immediately done, it can no longer be done

Sorry if I misread it, but you needed a second player?

I haven't played chess in years, but if so I'd love to pick it back up if it meant I could tell live-sized pieces to move around!

you got it!

Awesome! I also have a friend who wants to be a piece, he's 6'6" so he was wondering if he could be the King.
