What me and my boyfriend usually do is make sure we have enough in the bank for the room and deposit, and have our convention spending money in cash so it doesn't get tied up. It's been a lot easier since we started doing it this way.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Pre Reg required for Hotel?
November 07, 2014, 06:20:04 PM

So I shouldn't be worried about this seemingly scary warning box? I can't pay for my badge for at least two weeks, so I want to make sure I don't need it in order to book my hotel. This is different then before so I'm a bit confused...

Registration / Question about registration name?
November 07, 2014, 06:15:25 PM

My friends name shows up on our reg account, but mine shows up as "FanimeCon Membership"? I'm not sure if this is an error or not, just want to make sure everything will go through correctly before I pay.

I think it's great that things are happening earlier, but can we please get the hotel list and pricing info right away?  Without that information, it's hard to find roommates and plan accordingly.  I definitely want to have a plan in place before the housing goes live, so I can be sure to nab a room before they're all gone!

I agree, I'd love the hotel info list before booking. I usually plan my hotel based of the previous years info, but up to date is always better so I can organize my group.

Hotel Stayed: Fairmont (one bedroom king suite)
Nights Stayed: 3 Fri-Mon
Amenities: Separate shower and bathtub, huge bathroom, lots of space, big closets so luggage wasn't all over the room, pull out couch(in main building suites only so we didn't have one)
Helpfulness of Staff: I had no dealings with them myself so I can't say, but they were nice enough to take the mini bar charges off our room when someone accidentally moved the snacks and set off the censor.
Roomshares?: 7 people fit comfortably
Pros of Hotel: Spacious, helpful housekeeping.
Cons of Hotel: We were in the south tower and had to have a keycard to get in the building and to go up in the elevator. That got a bit annoying.
Would You Stay Again: Yes, my group plans to stay again next year.
Recommendations/Suggestions/Misc: We didn't book thru con housing so it was a bit pricey, but it was worth it for the amount of space we had. We had 7 people the whole weekend and it never felt cramped at all. If booking a suite I would request a main building room if possible so we could have the pull out couch next time.

I feel like it depending on the batch of designs they happened to be using at time? I could be wrong obviously. I got there about an hour after the early opening and got the penguin, but later in the day I heard they were giving out the male design. I'm glad I got the penguin XD I've never gotten my favorite design on a badge before, but even if I didn't I would still go back and ask if it could be changed. Never hurts to go and ask!

Registration / Re: KUDOS TO REGISTRATION!

This is great news!  If it ends up being as short the other days this weekend then I'll get a one day pass after all.

I wonder why they didn't let people beforehand know what they were planning on doing to make it go so smoothly, though!  Maybe they didn't want to get people's hopes up in case it didn't turn out.  But had we known, we would have preregistered.

I read in a different thread about the printing on site and how long it had taken in the test runs so I was feeling really hopeful about this year.

Registration / Re: KUDOS TO REGISTRATION!

Got in line around 11:40, got out with all 6 of my groups badges around 12:30. The line wasn't moving a lot when I got there but it picked up speed fast and soon it was steady shuffle into the main room with the registration booths and it only took like 30 seconds to print out all badges once my postcard was scanned. Best badge pickup experience I've had  ;) Really hope this system stays for future years. The only hiccup was when the scanner for the line I was originally in stopped working, but moving lines didn't add much more than 2 minutes to my wait time.

I'm planning on getting there between 10-11, think its a good chance I'll be able to line up indoors that early?

Based on my models, I expect that the time to shuttle to and from Clockwork plus their wait time will be more than the max line wait after we open. We have scaled the two registration systems based on the sizes of the conventions, and there is a real risk we'll overrun Clockwork. This will have the nasty side effect that we'll run out of Clockwork badges (they'll have to switch to Fanime artwork), and that will make our steam punk friends sad.

Reality can and will differ from my models, but if it were me I'd reg at the con I intend to attend.

That's a pretty good point. I'd be bummer if I registered at FanimeCon and got a CA badge because they ran out due to people picking them up there instead.

Here's the official attire thread: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tumblr.com%2Fdashboard%2F55%2F85958620922&h=uAQF7TGuN

And no the clothes don't actually have to be black and white, its just a formal event.

If you registered with a group, does everyone need the QR code from their email or just the group leader?

Only the leader needs to bring the e-postcard with the entire groups info on it.

Clockwork Alchemy lists their preregistration pickup times on Thursday as 5 to 8. Are the 3-to-8 times I'm seeing everywhere else for Fanime pickup only, or will Clockwork Alchemy be allowing pickup starting at 3? Thanks!

Yes I think they have different times. I'd contact CA's reg department if you want to make sure.

I think the only thing that's different is the badges you get at each pick-up location. CA has a different badge then FanimeCon, so since my whole group is picky about what badge they want I'll be standing in the long day-0 line at the con center.

I'm not cosplaying this year but I'm not worried about it. I just moved so I don't have the extra money to spend on all the stuff. I could break out my one from last year but I decided just to have a relaxing fun con this time around.

Actually that's what I got e-mailed to me when I did the "resend confirmation" at r.fanime.com yesterday.  It says it's the e-postcard, has my (now combined) two person group listed on it, as well as a QR code.  Makes me think that the mass e-mailing of e-postcards is just around the corner.
Thanks. I also just asked for a resend, and got the new version with the QR code.

Registration is supposed to work by scanning that QR code. Less manual typing. Faster reg lines. That's the plan, I heard months ago when the system was being set up. Glad to see it happening.

That makes me more optimistic about this years wait times  ;D Of course I'm prepared for a long wait just in case, you never know what can come up last minute.

If you go to the registration page and hit the "resend confirmation email" thing, you'll get it. I'm not sure if they've gone out other than that.

That's a different thing. Everyone should have a confirmation e-mail, but there will also be an "e-postcard" coming out in the next week or so that you need to bring to reg.

That's interesting, I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

EDIT: Yep, resent confirmation email and it is the e-postcard with my whole groups info on it. Guess the mass emailing of them is really just a few days away.

I think the email confirmation is more to prove you bought the registration. The e-postcards haven't been sent out yet. With the deadline to consolidate groups of less then 5 members being today I don't imagine they will be sent out any earlier then Friday since they'll have a lot of changes to make. I'm not that worried, I never print it out until the day before I leave when I'm packing all my bags anyway.
