Okay, so this thing was initially just for my Anime Club at Santa Clara High, but I thought it'd be nice to have more people go too. I was thinking of getting the Wilcox Anime Club too.. But yeah.. On to the details.
It'll be a beach party, kind of, to celebrate the end of the school year and the coming of summer. I want it to take place in June, preferably some day within the range of the Saturday the 14th to Sunday the 22nd. I want to make it spectacular and fun, but I'm not sure where to make it. I'd like some input and was wondering who could go, too!
It'd have to be, like.. maybe San Francisco or Santa Cruz, though.. Not sure, but preferably Santa Cruz. Somewhere around the radius of there and Santa Clara. Since we're dealing with some Freshmen and Sophomores, I don't really want their parents to worry any more than they already would.
Soo... Who wants to go? Haha. I know it's a little early, but I'd like to be able to make preparations because I'm a procrasinator.
That actually sounds like a viable replacement for the Raging Waters trip, personally speaking.
Lemme think about the logistics and lemme get back to you on that, eh?
I dont think SF would be ideal for a beach party two things that are wrong with SF's beaches
1. they are DAMN cold
2. You might find needles, medical supplies or glass in the sand or water
Santa Cruz is nice but I like the beaches in socal
ahh the beach I love it there =) last time I was in Peru I went to Mancoran! beautiful place to go when you get there by the chance
i'll think about it.
I'd like to go to the beach as well and yeah, this would be a nice replacement for Raging Waters. Somewhere between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz would be nice since there are lot of state beaches around that area and I have to agree with Kaz concerning SF beaches.
I think this might be rather fun.
But as I have to take a summer class: if it ends up falling on a day I have class, it'd be a no go for me.
For now, count me in. >.<
If we're voting on beaches, I'd suggest Carmel (http://www.carmelcalifornia.com/). Very nice beach and very nice (almost antique, even) waterfront shopping.
I'm pretty sure, though, that it'll pose a problem for some students (Parents: "YOU'RE GOING ON A TRIP WITH LIKE 30 UNKNOWN PEOPLE ABOUT LIKE A HUNDRED MILES FROM HERE (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=san+jose,+ca+&daddr=carmel-by-the-sea,+ca&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=33.02306,68.90625&ie=UTF8&z=9)?").

i was there when I was a kid and yea, Carmel is really, really nice and it's feels like you have stepped back in time. I agree with this location dude and yeah, it's about 2 hrs from here. Plus it's the only town where Dirty Harry aka Clint Eastwood was mayor. and the beaches are awesome. Good idea dude for the gathering :3

Between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz sounds perfect. Lawl. And yah.. I was just trying to name some beaches at first.. Didn't really think and stuff. o_o;
Woot beaches are fun :D
Santa Cruz beaches some are fun, well some of them anyway. If all goes well I will be spending my time at a beach every other day running or swimming this summer :D. If not working on random props for people :P
I should check some out during spring break again 8), that reminds me I need some sunglasses

LMAO. And i've been craving that for how long now, a year ago since we were at santa cruz?

But yeah, who wants to live forever, amirite? I don't care if i exit this earth early because of said dessert. I'll die happy lol
@chibbliz: Yep. he was mayor. Everyone made a big deal out of it back in the late 80's/early 90's(i think) for info go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmel-by-the-Sea%2C_California
and I don't mind doing a roadtrip. road trips are fun :3
I'm up for any beach, so long as:
-The date won't interfere with my college summer classes
-I have a roundtrip ride
If we end up in Santa Cruz, hopefully I'll be able to play PIU again (if they still have the machine at the Boardwalk)
Yar~ Like.. We can go to Santa Cruz for this or something.. and Carmel for some other time. I'd LOVE to go there.. Lawl.
But yah.. I hope lots of people would go to make it funfunfun. The Boardwalk sounds fun too.. O_O
A pair of beach trips, then?
One to accommodate for your anime club (Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk) and one to replace Raging Waters (Carmel-by-the-Sea)?

You can always play the PIU Zero (or did they upgrade to NX/NX2?) at MGL. IIRC, they've also got an NX set up in D&B's, if you can get inside.
Just wanted to toss out there that offering an open invite like this to anyone on these public forums may or may not be an issue. This is a high school anime club we're talking about here. The parents of your club members may not be comfortable with 20-somethings and up attending a trip with their under-aged children. Just something to consider.
That being said, if this happens, I'll probably be there.
Im going to agree with tsubasa, to be honest its really iffy with 20+ year olds mingled with high schools, something bad could happen? Also yeah there is also the parents that could be involved chaperones are still in the high school system, if it is a school funded field trip that is. or if there are parental units driving most of you out to the beaches.
Suggestion is to probally have the anime club do their thing and then us for another date =\
since this is an open forum you never know who could read this and show up like a creepy pedo
Lawl. "Creepy pedo".. DX
Iunno. I just wanted a bunch of people there to make it interesting. It's not like there wouldn't be any other people at the beach and stuffs. Hell, it's more likely to find a creepy pedo or two that's already hanging around there. o_o;
Hmm, in my thoughts if this is a club related activity, I would recommend have some chaperons around. That way no one gets in trouble.
If is just a bunch of friends hanging out who happen to be in the club but aren't doing this as a club activity, well then is just like any other gathering we have and if you want your parents around is up to you.
I want to swim in the ocean again :D, and I need to buy some trunks. Woot summer shopping :D
I agree.
From skimming in the beginning, I guess I was under the impression that it was friends from a high school club hanging out.
However, if its a club related activity (sponsored by the school or not), then we should have the gathering separate. But that doesn't mean that it has to be different days. We could both do our own thing and if any of the club wants to come say hi it probably would be alright. However if any want to go off and hang with us (aka with no supervision), it should be under the approval of a chaperon.
(Not to say that high schoolers can't make their own good decisions but its easy to make bad decisions when you're younger and such an arrangement might make the parents feel more comfortable.)
It's basically going to be a gathering just with people in my club. The school wouldn't bother helping us out with transportation or anything, and it's going to be after the school year ends too. I'm planning on inviting other anime clubs too. But like.. yah.. o-O
Beachwise, Santa Cruz is for the usual sun, overpriced rides, and gawking. Carmel's for sightseeing, cool breezes, and high property values.
As for the age thing, I never quite understood the wisdom of letting a pack of hormonally charged teenagers alone together, but the only kid I have to worry about has four legs and barks at airplanes. ;D
EDIT: Sure, go ahead and invite a few anime clubs along. Sheesh, nothing wrong with a "Local anime club get-together"!
Cedric.
aka. Washu! ^O^
It's not only an issue of "hormonally charged teenagers" (although that is certainly a possibility). It's an issue of liability. If anything happens to compromise the well-being of any of the minors, someone's going to have to take responsibility.
I wouldn't normally bring this up, but it sounds like there would be a relatively large percentage of minors who 1. we are unfamiliar with and 2. have parents who might raise concerns.
Well, the thing is that there most likely will be parents that decide to go with their child just to make sure that they're okay. Whether these parents allow them to hang out with the Con-goers is their choice. It's not like they HAVE to hang out with you guys. It's just that it'd be nice to get a bigger group of people that we'd possibly know or not know or whatever to just hang out at the beach together. They're really clingy with each other, and I just thought that getting to know more people would be nice.
And as I've said, it's most likely not just my club that's going, and the people on the boards that are going would probably know some of the people in the other invited clubs too. I just wanted more than just us and even random-er people to be there.
Or something like that. o.o
I hate to say this but if they are indeed really clingy with each other, they probably won't want to be around "strangers" and would rather be with their own group.
Trying to force people to be around people not in their in-group can be rather awkward if they are not up to meeting and being around new people. And it may be more than likely that they will do their own thing away from us.
Not to say that isn't alright but if you're trying to plan things to be a certain way, it may not go as you would like.
I learned how to swim in bootcamp... and havent done it since. Maybe interested.

When ever I hear swimming and the beach in the same paragraph/sentences I think of GATEGA, awesome movie. I want to swim as far as I can then come back :P
I like the beach.
I still don't think that combining a high school anime club meeting and a Fanimafia gathering is a good idea, though.

i have to agree with this.
I want to go to the boardwalk again wit joo guyz XD yay for summer gatherings I can actually attend!!
I'll go if it's the fanime pplz...I agree the high school anime club thingy should be separate...they r not ready for the MAFIA
JK but yeah..still
i'm still thinkin' about this, so i r a maybe for now.
I think a gathering of the fanime-peeps would be fun, but I have to agree that it probably would cause parents to be concerned if their kids are hanging out with complete strangers....so maybe have a chat room or online get together of sorts to help your anime clubers more comfortable with other people, instead of an irl meeting. If we were to do the gathering at a beach I think it's a good idea for parents/guardians to be there...just in case.
But now I'm liking the idea of having a just fanimer hanging out on the same day, you guys doing your thing and if any of your people wanna hang with us cool people they can, if they aren't comfortable then they can stay with people they know.
Depending on what happens, i'll see if i'm able to go. ^_^
Sound really cool! it is really a shame that i'm new in this forum and i don't know no one >.<

Yay! other high school otakus! Count me in.
So there will be kids parents that will be chaparoning right? So then that means there will be parents providing transportation? Because I'm feeling a little concerned about the transportation.
Its nice to get with Otakus from another high school, I'm currently trying to form a anime club at my school.
Well no idea if this is still a plan but I'm down XD

Alameda has a rather nice stretch of Beach, if you're looking for a place by San Francisco. Not to mention we have MUCH warmer temperatures normally then San Francisco as well...
