Anime News Network reported there is a new FMA season. The announcement is made in Volume 20 of the manga released on Friday August 21 in Japan. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-08-20/new-fullmetal-alchemist-tv-anime-series-confirmed
I don't see where else the series is going to go... most of the mysteries of the FMA world have been explained by now. I suppose it could work.
It's more fuel for my suspicion that Japan has become a lot more amenable to sequels, in recent years, though.
New season?! How can that be?
Sounds cool. I'd like to get a different view on the alchemy action, see something past metal alchemy.
But will there be a new main character?
That would be nice.
And less blood.
Good questions, everyone. My first thought is the same as many of us . . . what's next? The movie pretty much answered questions after the TV series. Perhaps, the Elric brothers return home to face another challenge.
But how could they? and also, this video explains that they didn't return back. Its like an OVA or something, its like what supposedly what happened after the movie. Full Metal Alchemist special ending (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CxxdfIhhjw)
Oh and pay close attention to it!

Wow, thanks for sharing that video. Though I'd never of thought another part to this anime would come to be, its almost too crazy an idea.

Thats why it will likely have another main character rather than the Ed and Al.
Though I must say, it might get a bit annoying seeing them as the main characters =/

But can you really have "Fullmetal Alchemist" with out Ed and Al?

Easily.
Its like a Hellsing without Alucard- oh wait that already happened *sobs* Why did you have to disappear Alucard? Why?! Damn you Schroedinger! Damn you Doc! Damn you Major!

But Ed
is the "Fullmetal Alchemist". The name is his. Otherwise, it just wouldn't make any sense!
Hmmm, Full Metal Alchemist series set in today's world and time? Ed and Al are grandparents and they raise their children to become alchemists.

ffffff way to bring up the old series FMA, old characteres recycled and what not
its set in 2005 since apparently ed is 100 years old in a modern future :U but yes the series could go without ed and AL hence the kids are introduced
that makes sense.

Who's says there can't be another "Fullmetal", or someone specializing in Metal Alchemy?
Of course, the title is just there to show if affiliation with the original series.
Still, I want to see new alchemy ._.

I have a feeling that would be milking the anime too much...And things always go bad after they take it overboard.
(Wouldn't mind seeing a second season of Darker than Black. The first one didn't really end...)
Milking cows until there dead is standard for almost all media industries.
Some times that milk is tasty, other times its soured, or just plain spoiled.
Still, I encourage milking. No matter what, even if that milk is spoiled or sweet, the original cup will always be just as sweet as it was, and always will be.
