thank you, as soon as I finalize the list, I will do that

maybe it's the ice they use in it to keep it cool.  but every now and then the water had some sort of aftertaste.

General Convention Discussion / would you buy vhs?
January 10, 2009, 04:12:37 PM
I'm not sure if this is the right  section for this, but I am planning to sell some stuff at the swapmeet.  I was wondering if anyone would buy anime on vhs?

I don't want to bring a box of vhs if it isn't going to sell.

Also, water is free all convention long, why are people buying water?

The free water is tap water.  Some people do not like the taste/can't drink tap water.  Even some water from those pure water stores tastes funny to me.

the long line thing is very true.  During my first fanime(99, I'm getting old) I met one of my oldest and dearest friends while waiting for the dance.

Just go around doing the things you like.  Not sure if it was the same year or 2000 but I made friends with my other oldest and dearest friends in the viewing rooms.  I was trying to find the sailor moon marathon room and somehow ended up at bishonen ai room.  For some reason no one was there other than the staff running it.  We had a blast that night and spent the rest of con hanging out.  The next year I started staffing.

Fanime can help you start some great friendships.   I meet a lot of people every year that I don't end up friends with.   Just keep trying.  You won't mesh well with everyone but boy is it great when you find one you do.

You only need money for the basics.  Badge, hotel, food and transportation.

how about using it now to let people know when the website is updated?  I noticed it hasn't been used in over 200 days.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Cosplay Changing Room!!

we can consider it, but remember the con would most likely need to pay for these rooms per day and have staff of the appropriate gender sit there to watch the room. Gain vs. cost, such an arrangement is not very viable. So don't get your hopes up.

I totally agree.   The gain may not be enough to warrant the cost.  It's just an idea.

probably the best way would be to set up two large communal dressing rooms within one room(one for each gender).  I have seen this in bridal dress wholesalers.   and the room would have to be for dressing only, no storage. Limited hours as well(let's say 8 to 8).  and to thwart peeping, the cosplayer should have on something like a bodysuit.  I usually wear something under my cosplay when I go to an event where I am unsure of changing rooms.  so I can quickly get out of it and not worry about flashing someone.

I agree that bathrooms are not the best place for changing.  Once at an event in the san francisco japantown, I got something smeared onto the bottom of my skirt cause I had to change in a bathroom

If I didn't have a room at the con I would love this idea.    I prefer my hotel room because it takes me forever and alot of makeup and room.  I have had a room at fanime every year since 2002 since  in 01 I got into an accident on my way home from the con one day.

The one con on west coast that hosts this sort of thing successfully is Anime Los Angeles. The reason it is successful is because the room has anywhere from 2 - 7 older ladies that are in there while it is open and they are sewing, talking, and assisting anyone that comes in. This concept was/is more predominate at sci-fi cons. Your average attendee at anime cons is 15-19 years of age. Most of them can hardly stay put in one spot for more than 3 hrs so to have them staff/volunteer for the weekend would put a cramp in their plan.

I saw this done at costume con 2008 too.  I think the con ran it.  I believe the equipment and supplies were donated or being lent.  A staff would be required to make sure none of it disappeared or got damaged.

If I don't bring most of my supplies, I at least bring a mini repair kit(pre-threaded needles, safety pins, scissors, buttons, snaps, clear nail polish, eyeglass repair kit, invisible thread) inside of the bag we bring down to the convention.

I love this Manga and it is on my dream list.  but I don't think I can afford to this year.   Maybe things will change between now and then.

did anyone get pics?  I ended up walking around with my friend.  You couldn't miss us, we both wore floor length white costumes.

Hey, if you're still cosplaying around 4 pm, come on by the Kidz Zone, where Stage Zero is trying to coordinate a cosplay event.  Not necessarily a contest or masquerade, but just something so that we can showcase to our audience, and Stage Zero can do small interviews with you.

Hopefully the weather will be okay (might be chilly, but rain, let's hope not)

I'll come by.

When I read about the swap meet today I wanted to try and sell.  But I'll stay at the store for the gathering.  I can't wait to see everyone.

I'll mostly likely go to this instead of the one in San Fran, to save gas you know.

Yeah.  more people.   I was walking around Japantown today and the city was out, painting light poles and sprucing up all over.

I also saw a sign for the 1st annual chalk art festival on the same day but at luna park which is at 13th and jackson.

Is there a specific time for the gathering?

or is it like "come over here, we want to see your cosplays" kind of thing, lol

it is very informal.  I say the main stuff is between 12 and 3.  but you can come by anytime.  I'll be there from 10 am till probably the end of day.

you are right about the photographer posing the cosplayers.  I had a photo taken by her, she told me she wanted sad or pensive pictures.

Quote from: "pockystix"It's too bad I didn't work this Saturday, I actually start working at Farout Toys next Saturday (and every Saturday after that) from 1 to 4. I stopped by today though. ^^;

that's so cool that you will be working there.

I talked to Izzy and he said that the maid cafe would most likely be going on sunday as well.  I guess I should get some sleep now.  see everyone there.
