Haven't met you before, but I think the time will come eventually.

The gay marriage bill will be back next time. When a group of people feels an incredible amount of passion for their cause that words itself cannot describe, they will fight hard to get this issue back on the ballot for whenever the next election is.

But I am impressed with the close call on prop 8. This same-sex marriage law in California has been fought over for decades with the opposing side winning by a lot of votes(Prop 22 in 2000 won 61% to 39% and tried to define marriage only between a man and woman). So if the No side of Prop 8 can come this close, imagine what we'll be capable the next time it goes back on the ballot.

The Prop 8 winners may have won the fight, but they haven't won the war :D.

Yeah, I heard. I was heading out for dinner this evening when a bunch of people from my dorm building came rushing out and cheering for Obama. Crazy stuff. lol.

The browser ate up my last message and I've wanted to respond to this for a while so I'm going to keep it shorter than usual.

1) I'm voting Obama because I agree with more of his policies than I do with McCain and I also noticed that McCain voted with Bush more than most of his colleagues did so chances are that he's going to be no different than Bush when he steps into office. I also heard that he's in a pretty poor health(some type of skin disease/cancer to top it off) so the chances that Palin will be stepping into presidency sometime during the term will be very high and we all know what to expect from her.

2) I've already expressed a portion of my digust for Palin in 1, so it's obviously going to be Biden. It's mostly because of his experience and some of his endeavors.

3) Yea, because with the economy in the worst shape it's been since the Great Depression, people are definitely going to want to see the economy improve so whoever can address it in the most feasible manner will most likely have a lead. Trickle-down economics pretty much explains what shouldn't happen. It didn't work when Bush was in office. What makes you think it's going to work when McCain is in office?

4) Gas is going down, so prices may or may not be a concern. Energy is definitely a factor since with oil becoming limited in supply, we will definitely need some sort of renewable energy and I'm pretty sure a lot of people want someone who will allocate funding for renewable energy research since we all know how much Bush vetoed bills towards these things.

On another note, I've been hearing that Bush has gotten away with quite a bit of water pollution violations during the past few weeks ever since the media has been placing such a huge emphasis on the election race. Not that it shouldn't be a big deal, but yea it does worry me a bit. Then again the President is leaving office in a few months so what's it matter? lol

If both candidates somehow tied and both the House and Senate had a difficult time picking the president, which of these do you think is the lesser evil? McCain and Biden or Obama and Palin?

???If I go to Fanime this would be my first time, but before that I have a few questions:

1) What is Fanime about?(obviously anime, but what other stuff?) I browsed around the forums and it appears there's cosplay, panels, movie/episode showings, gaming and dealers. However I would like more detailed explanations(like are there different areas for that or is it a giant mix).

I think it's just your standard anime convention with showings, cosplay, dealers/artists, gaming, j-pop/j-rock/j-whatever concerts, dances, panels, gatherings, and the like. From what I've heard, it's actually one of the more popular cons in NorCal. The staff is right now revving up the details as they get the programming more organized so you might have to wait a little bit until the stuff is ready.

2) Is volunteering worth it? The cost of early registration is $45 which is a bit expensive for me, but I researched that volunteering could lead to a free entry(after refund/certain number of hours). This idea appealed to me and I wondering if the benefits of volunteering: meeting new people, hanging out in volunteer room, working long hours[jk] were worth it as opposed to the cons: having 4-6 hours everyday taken up, not being able to go where you want. Input on how fun volunteering is would be appreciated.

Volunteers require a dedication of 20 hours throughout the whole con weekend to get the refund. It's definitely a more flexible way of helping the con and enjoying the con more. You have a bigger variety of tasks to choose from as opposed to staff where you're working for a specific department. I was a volunteer before I was on staff and I found it pretty fun, because I got to meet a lot of people and got to know the con a bit better. Personally I would recommend that most people who have never attended an anime con before go as an attendee before they volunteer or staff because they get a much better feel for con life, but since volunteering isn't as demanding as staff, I suppose volunteering would give somewhat of a good feel for con life.

3) I watch some anime(gundam 00, code geass, afro samurai, soul eater are recent ones), and used to build model kits(a handful in middle/high school). The main reasons Fanime draws me in is because it is related to anime, and that I heard there will be people selling model kits there(from Japan?/hard to get?). The question I have is that will Fanime be enough to keep me entertained or will I be generally bored there because of the vast amount of anime that I don't know(I'm more of a casual anime watcher than an avid one). Are there model kits the expensive?($40+).

A lot of people in general will say "Fanime is what you make out of it", which is true for the most part. Even though there are usually a lot of events going on at the same time, it's up to you as to which ones you want to go to, if any at all. I think casual anime is actually pretty common everywhere so I doubt there should be too many that you don't know about. I haven't really seen too much of the lesser known anime merchandise around, but that's just me.
