I haven't received a confirmation email either, and I signed up on the first day.  I believe those have not yet been sent out. :D

Aaaahhhh! We're finally getting down to it! Oh man oh MAN I gotta crack down and decide on a song!! :')

Me too!  I'm so glad we got some information.  This contest is always a big part of why I come to the convention.  I've met so many amazing people through this contest and the karaoke room in general.  <3

Awesome!  Thanks so much!

Hey Hank!  Thanks again for posting the rules.  I do have a question for you.  Do you have any idea about a time frame for when the sign-ups will be posted on the 11th?  I know I'm jumping the gun, but I just want to be sure that I'll get a spot.

Acoustic karaoke is when you get people together and use real instruments and stuff.  Regular karaoke you just get a track and sing to that.  :D

For series from the 90s, I'd love to see Fushigi Yuugi on the list.

Lanislori, that's a great idea!  The karaoke contest is a great way to improve your performance skills.  Best of luck!

Sign-ups have not even opened up yet.  They usually open in either the first or second week of May.  The rules haven't even been posted yet.  Marisuga is just carrying on a tradition that I started.  We set up a contestant chat so we don't flood the rules topic with unrelated content.  We're still waiting on the rules, but when they're posted, they usually include a preliminary sign-up date.

I'm wicked stoked for fanime karaoke this year! Last year was hella fun...now I just gotta pick out songs for this year haha

Hey Corie!  Also, thanks marisuga, for starting the thread in my place.  How's everyone doing!  I'm stoked too.  I am still looking at songs, though.  :B

M'y schedule has been messed  up since I took my graduate exam.  I'm often up until 4am.  D:

And the order is awesome.

well u better get some sleep soon XD
im gonna need both u and lauren to practice wit me beforehand

what time do u think ur gonna get there fri?
lauren's gonna be there in the morning, i wont get there until 2-ish at the earliest, but i have lessons from 3-4. so after 4 i is free

It depends when my guest leaves my house.  She didn't want to spend the night in her dorm room all alone and sent most of her stuff home already, but needs to check out on Thursday night or Friday morning (can't remember which), so she is spending the night at my house.  Probably not super early, but for sure by the time you are done.

DAMN IT!!!! I keep forgetting that the 17th is the cut-off date......

Oh well, I will still see if I can squeeze myself in at the Con.......

Actually, the spots were filled before the 17th.  It's always best to sign up the day the sign-ups open, otherwise you risk not getting a spot in the contest.  It almost always fills up before the actual cut off date.

I'm pre-reg, and I am going to pick it up on Thursday.  At least, I think I'm pre-reg.  I registered at the end of March, and I know I am part of a group that can pick up their badges early.  Friday I can arrive whenever everyone else does, as I live super close to the convention center.

If the songs requested don't have to be Japanese, then I'd like to request two Queen songs: Bohemian Rhapsody and Another One Bites the Dust.

Thanks again for your hard work, Hank!  The karaoke room is my favorite part of fanime. <3

We have a separate American database that has all the Western popular songs you'd typically find at any decent karaoke place. It is available during Open Mic upon request.

You are far too kind- actually Tommy, Ska, Elliot, and the rest of our amazing crew do most of the hard work. I just answer forum posts...

I love all of you guys, really!  I can't wait to hang out in the karaoke room.  :D  Tommy and the others already know I'm excited to see them. :b  It's a shame Val couldn't make it this year, but moving is so crazy, so it's understandable.

I apologize for not seeing the American database.  I think when I was looking at the site, I looked in the wrong section.  Thanks for letting me know!

If you get there early enough and don't mind a walk, there are some places with $5 and $7 flat rates as long as you don't mind no in/out privileges.  If I'm not mistaken, there is a parking lot with a $7 flat rate near South Hall.  It has no in/out privileges either, but it's really close.  I live in downtown San Jose, so if I'm out and about and see somewhere within half a mile of the convention center that is cheap, I will try and tell you where it is located. Hope this helps!  The key is to get there early enough so that experienced con-goers and people who actually work/live in downtown San Jose haven't taken all of the spots.

Thank you for posting!  Lauren, Jackie, and I are at the top of the list together.  Karaoke buddies, woot woot!

hey, guys! I competed last year as well as my first time and made it to finals!  My story is...I decided to join the singing contest for fun since my friends pushed me to do so.  I thought I wouldn't make it to finals, so I didn't prepare a final song...but I ended up being a finalist, so I pulled the first song I knew from the karaoke list haha.  Make sure you pick all your songs, even if you think you might not make it to the finals, just like me haha

My history is:  I'm 20 years old studying Digital Media Art, Business, and currently working as an English tutor for Japanese international students and an application consultant for a Japanese start up company, Connectionpool.  I've been a frontman and guitarist for many bands, but I started a new band called, Minor SetbacK, where we write originals in Japanese.  We have so far performed with famous J-Rock/con bands, such as Phoenix Ash, The Stars at Dusk (aka Valkyrie Kiss), and akai Sky.  My influences are androp, ONE OK ROCK, Motohiro Hata, etc.

I am planning to compete again, cause I thought it'd be fun to do so again!  I hope seeing familiar and new faces next year! :)

Uh oh! Minor Setback is competing! AWESOME! :P

yeah!! representing my band up on stage this year! are you competing too?!  represent the local j-rock scene with me! :)

The songs I'm planning to sing are:

Prelim:  "Asa Ga Kuru Mae Ni" by Motohiro Hata // 秦基博の「朝が来る前に」 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpAOLEsjB2k
Final:  "Home" by Kiyama Yusaku (木山 裕策) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eioiTTG1AVQ

I'm also planning to do AcoustiKaraoke with my band and perform original Japanese songs!

When you guys see me, feel free to approach me, cause I might not approach you LOL <---shy

Hey Andre!  I'm doing the AcoustiKaraoke Contest with the Valkyrie Kiss guys as well.  Can't wait hear you.  ^-^

Soooo jealous!  I would love to do AcousticKaraoke contest, but I have no band to sing with.  :B  Best of luck, guys! <33333  Sorry I have been so absent from the thread!  I had my graduate exam last week (to see if I get my MA in French, but I haven't gotten the results back yet), a French presentation the following day, a project write up due today, and I have a final and a pedagogical project to be done on Thursday.  After that I should be much more present in this thread.

Can I sign up for a friend as well as myself?  She has a job interview in the morning and has to commute several hours to get there and thus has to go to sleep.  Just wanna know if this is possible.

Yes, but it would be your responsibility to ensure your friend's entry is correct and complete.

Thank you so much!  Please ignore the PM that I sent you.  I wasn't sure whether you would check back on this thread in time.
