Currently not up-to-date. Block sf-2 shows a win for Rika Furude of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (1372 vs. 1367, +5 advantage).

Saimoe 2007 discussion goes here.

If I had only one thing to say about this year's Saimoe, it'd be:

"Ringo...?"

But I can say more, so what I'll say now is that my top two candidates have not changed since last year so far.  We'll have to see what happens when more of the sets are determined though.

Eh, might as well support Takako of Otoboku... she's the only character I can recognize out of the list beyond just a name.

Mizuho's still up for consideration in the 15th group.

Yes, that is the series -- the kanji says "onee-sama" but is read "boku"

1. No, Kanata Izumi (Konata's mom).
2. Rank doesn't matter so long as you place within top 8. The rest in the top 32 go to second prelims; anyone below that is scrapped. Means Konomi still has a chance in Group 2 (she ranked 10 with 334 votes).

The only characters in the first preliminary for which I'm strongly in favor are: Alice, Alicia, and Eruruu. And those first two aren't even my favorite character from the series. About half of the remaining characters (of those I recognize, which isn't a majority) are fairly moe, including some per-series favorites, but nothing top tier overall. I can feel the overload of certain really popular series (Nanoha, Utawarerumono, Hayate no Gotoku, Code Geass, Rozen Maiden at 5+ characters each...).

Second Preliminaries, First Half:

Group 1: Barasuishou (Rozen Maiden: Overture)
Group 2: Jujo Shion (Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru)
Group 3: Ichinose Nono (Hitohira)
Group 4: Komaki Manaka (OVA ToHeart 2)

I'll translate the rest if the rest actually does matter. For the moment, I'm assuming that the first place girl in second preliminary groups make it to the nine in the brackets.

Oh, and concerning Group 3: Even though I like Nono, she finishes first to Konomi (fourth place). :( :( :(

So, now that most participants are decided, what are everyone's top three-ish candidates for this year?  Mine are as follow:

1. Takamachi Nanoha - Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
As if anyone who knows me would be surprised.  My favorite character in recent memory and potentially my favorite character from a post-2000 series.

2. Komaki Manaka - ToHeart2
ToHeart2 is probably my second biggest obsession of the last few years (second to Nanoha) and Manaka is my favorite girl.

3. Minamoto Chikaru - Strawberry Panic!
Same reason as last year: Strawberry Panic! needs more love.  And Chikaru is easily the best character in the cast, IMO.

Maybe Rena and Rika as well... I dunno.

If anyone needs it, I used the preliminary translations from Makieism to translate the characters in the later rounds.

So if you need them: here. (http://moeticcrepes.blogspot.com/2007/08/saimoe-brackets-b-h-translations.html)

Let's see... characters I care about in this ranking:
Kallen & CC (Code Geass)
Akiko, Shiori, and Mai (Kanon)
Eruruu (Utawarerumono)
Shion (Higurashi)
Akari, Alice, & Alicia (ARIA)
Karada (Asatte no Houkou)

There are some others that I wouldn't object to their doing well (for example, Manaka, Tsukasa, Satoko, Aruruu, Tokiha Mai) but I wouldn't object to their being eliminated, either.

Update!

Most of the characters clearing the blocks have been determined.  We're moving into semis soon~.

Block
A: Sanzein Nagi - Hayate no Gotoku!
B: Izumi Konata - Lucky☆Star
C: Takamachi Nanoha - Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
D: Ryugu Rena - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
E: Shinku - Rozen Maiden Ouverture
F: Hiiragi Tsukasa - Lucky☆Star
G: Furude Rika - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
H: To Be Decided (in today's round of voting) Suiguintou - Rozen Maiden Ouverture vs. Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière - Zero no Tsukaima

Nanoha's the last bastion of the series!  And the best candidate, IMO.  Nanoha all the way!
Title: Re: Anime Saimoe Tournament 2007 (Now: Block A)
Post by: Tsubasa on October 23, 2007, 08:58:35 AM
Louise has beaten Suiguintou!  Probably an even less expected upset than the desu vs. Tsukasa showdown in block F.  At this rate, Rozen Maiden is likely not going to take top again this year.  Considering how the only remaining candidate, Shinku, has traditionally be weaker than both Suiseiseki and Suiguintou, who are both now eliminated.

With the characters left in the mix, I think the Raki characters are good candidates to go all the way.  Maybe a Higurashi character.  Or Nagi.  I'm hoping Nanoha. =P

Edit:
Also, ignore that comment about "semis" in the last post.  It should read "quarters."

I would have been updating this daily, but I've been busy with stuff the last couple of days.  Anyway, results:

D vs. C - Rena vs. Nanoha
B vs. A - Konata vs. Nagi
G vs. H - Rika vs. Louise
E vs. F - Shinku vs. Tsukasa: TBD today

With Nanoha's loss, there are no longer any candidates I feel like I can support full-heartedly.  I'll just watch how things unfold from here on out.  It's all the same anyway.

I got what I wanted from these matches:
Nagi beating Konata and Rika beating Louise

note that I was more concerned with the contestants losing rather that winning.

All that needs to happen is for someone to take Rena out and Ill be relatively satisfied.

So I spring for a voting code and it's all like "we'll give it to you after the Tsukasa battle"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

How does that work?  I just tried for a code now and it works for me.  The queue is actually relatively short or something cause it'll only take an hour to get my code.  As opposed to the usual two.

If that says "come back at 12:58", then uepfdgnfjkfdmjnksdffkodm my bad.

Well, 2 of my fav characters battled it out and Shinku lost. I don't care either way. I'm still pulling for Rika :3

Results bracket appended to top post. Thanks, Chun. Can someone get an updated version of that to reflect the Rika win?

Also, pulling for Nagi gogogo

Am I wrong in thinking that the average age of the semifinalists is even lower than usual?

also: Lisu, it makes perfect sense that you would be more concerned with characters losing than others winning. It comes with the territory of being an asshole. ;)

lawl but shinku is like 2342311 years old, and rena is like 16, which is the same as being like 234521 years old. And rika, she's like 125243432 years old in spirit, and Nagi likes old school games that are like 314231 years old, so I don't know man, I really don't know.
