Title: 2012 Panels
Post by: Kava on January 22, 2012, 10:58:14 PM
Hallooo to all!

Briefly, in case you're wondering what's up with panels this year and why has Rena been silent: my right arm/hand was cursed in 2011, and between August 11 and December 25, I managed to injure and re-injure it 3 or 4 times. This has led to a lot of limited computer usage for me over the last several months.

And now for the information you actually want!
The 2012 panel form is up (though most of you have probably already seen it). It is linked, as always, from the panelist information page which you can find here: http://www.fanime.com/programming/panels/panelist-information/

EVEN BETTER: Our panelist information page has had a bit of overhaul and updating this year which was badly needed (including some updates I just made today), so I highly recommend reading it over again even if you've been a panelist in previous years. (Updates were made to the section describing what we consider when approving panels/assigning room slots, too!)

Most especially, I added a section today on how this year's approval process will work: http://www.fanime.com/programming/panels/panelist-information/#post-submission

:oLast, but in no way least... If you hadn't heard yet, Fanime has a partner con this year that is ALL steampunk. Their panelist information page is here: http://www.fanime.com/programming/panels/clockwork-alchemy-panelist-information/ You can read more about Clockwork Alchemy here: http://www.fanime.com/2012/01/06/press-release-fanimecon-announces-a-brand-new-steampunk-addition/

If there is anything there that is unclear, feel free to drop us an e-mail or reply here. We'll do our best to answer here and to update the online information as we are able to do so. (I'm still injured, so you can expect to hear from my staff more than me this year.)

Thanks everyone!  :D -Rena

PS! You can sometimes get information sooner than on here by following the FanimeCon twitter feed: http://twitter.com/#!/FanimeCon (http://twitter.com/#!/FanimeCon)

Ps: Panels has their own twitter account now: http://twitter.com/#!/FanimePanels (http://twitter.com/#!/FanimePanels)

Feel free to use it to ask us questions, as well as to hear some nifty little factoids about panels throughout the year. -Rena

The first panel approvals have been sent out, and will continue being sent out from now on. For a sneak peek at what's been approved, keep an eye on our twitter! :)

Hey all, I have a question for those who attend panels.

If we were to start panels at 9am on Saturday and Sunday, would you attend?

If it is a panel I am interested in attending it doesn't matter what time of day it takes place

Going to echo what eralston said, although as a cosplayer I already have to wake up fairly early to prepare for con. xD; I'm sure I could deal with it though if there were some really good panels happening. You've probably already considered this, but perhaps you guys could schedule some of the smaller panels during that time and see how well it works out?

It's an idea. However, if we schedule panels that don't expect much of an attendance at that time, chances are.... they won't get much of an attendance. Then, this will make others less likely to be willing to give panels in that time slot in the future. Something in the nature of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The feedback is much appreciated though! We'll consider it. I'm not sure if we'll have the staff to support it this year though. @_@;; I wish we did. It's looking as though there's going to be an unholy number of panels eligible for the waiting list this year.

If we have our time (at least, I think I have my time slot), is it safe to post it for others to see? I remember last year we were asked not to post our times until the schedule had been locked down completely.

Also, I have a handful of friends who aren't planning on being at Fanime, but just want to come to my panel. Assuming it isn't an insane number of people, is it alright for them to attend just that one panel?

Thanks for asking!

Yes, it's safe to post it for others to see.

The schedule this year was created as panels were selected, and all times locked in at the time of panel selection. It's a big difference from the way we've done it in previous years.

is it possible to change the name of a panel host and/or contact information after submission?

Could a panelist enter the panel a few minutes late, as part of the panel itself?
