I'd just like to point out that badge-pickup was also available at Clockwork Alchemy. A friend of mine went Friday morning and she basically said that it took two seconds to get it. I guess not many people knew about it.

I only happened to learn of this tip (after I had already experienced Thursday's pre-reg failure) from a couple tweets with the #fanime and #fanimecon hashtags; other than that, it hadn't been publicized anywhere.

Actually, when you pre-registered online it asked you where you wanted to pick up your badge, either at Clockwork or at Fanime. Most people just didn't choose it.

I don't know what it is with these forums, or maybe its just youth in general, but a lot of people on here seem to like posting/admitting guilt of wrongdoing. In any case, it's a little hard to sympathize with you on your situation when you repeatedly admit that you basically got in the con with a badge that wasn't yours. Again, I know that's not the point of this topic or why you started it, but you kinda dug yourself into that hole out the gate.

Going to have to agree with Anon here. Karma works both ways.

I don't think badge pickup could span over more days than there are, since renting the con center itself is very high cost, and the people giving out badges have work/school during the week. They're short on manpower, it's true, though as a fan-run con, Fanime works very differently from other cons. There might be a thing or two we can learn from other cons though, yes.

The waving-the-sign-yoohoo-I'm-open thing has been done for a long time, though I think you make a good point that we should keep each booth 2-3 people deep, to keep up efficiency. Reminds me of going to the airport.

Points 1-2: I don't really give two cents about who people come cosplaying as, though I guess I could say I've seen some people unhappy with the large influx of Homestuck cosplayers over the last two years or so. I don't really think this is something the staff, or anyone, really, has control over? Though Yuu-pon makes a point that perhaps the Homestuckers would like to consider starting their own con, if they so choose. To me, FanimeCon is a chance for people with the similar (not same!) interests to get together and have fun. Basically what I want to say is, what does other people wanting to cosplay Homestuck have anything to do with me? Or you? Nothing, really. They do their cosplay, you do yours.

3-4: I don't really see you offering any clear ideas or suggestions (as this thread pertains specifically feedback of this sort), and your feedback about the lines isn't very clear. I waited in line for pre-reg pickup on Thursday night from 7:30PM to 2AM, so I do believe Registration has room for improvement. I'm very appreciative that they tried to do something new this year. Though it may not have worked as efficiently as we all had hoped, knowing this they'll be able to come up with something more efficient for next year.

5. Yes, please. Staff already do their best to tell people to shower, eat, sleep (but not in public), and otherwise keep themselves presentable, but there are--of course--people who don't do these things. Body odor was particularly bad at the swap meet.

6. Is it wrong to ask why? I'm just going to skip this.

7. Half the convention center was under construction, artists' alley had to be moved, as did many other things. I don't think half a block is too far, it's just a pain that it's not as close as we're used to. Most (or all?) construction should be done by next year, so Fanime will have bigger and better space to work with.

8. Where, exactly? The con is always packed! Lots of people come! If you mean in the walkways, there were some people who would linger in the middle and block traffic, true.

9. Two is their standard (as the past ~3 years indicate), so sorry they don't have an unlimited budget to bring moar bands.

10. I was hoping to see people play up the theme! Not just attendees, but con too. Last year (sports festival? I think?) they had athletic-related events, like relays/scavenger hunts and whatnot, and I really liked that attendees had to chance to interact with the theme. Otherwise it's just a theme that dictates the art on the pamphlets and displays, and not for the con as a whole.

After you enter Dealer's Hall, walk all the way to the second-to last aisle from the left. Go down that aisle. It is the small booth directly to the right of the H. Naoto booth (it has a huge sign, you won't miss it) that is on your left-hand side.

I've visited it good number of times already, though they only sell 7!!'s newest album, "Dokidoki" and their US-limited t-shirts. Unfortunately, ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D goods (albums and tour goods) were only available at their autograph sessions. They sold out of all singles/albums today, though, and because neither of the MusicFest guests have events tomorrow(Monday), I don't think goods for either band will be available. Wouldn't hurt to take a peak at the booth though.

Not going Monday--pity I saw this thread too late...

Today I brought:

-White iPhone 4(S?)
-Naruto Shippuden wall scroll

To the staff table in Artists' Alley. If you lost something like what I listed above, please check with AA staff~

(Lost in two separate places, most likely two separate people?). Posting here just in case someone out there is scoping the net for some help getting back their stuff!

Awesome job Fanime for bringing such a great anime active musical guest!!

Are they going to be our main band?
Maybe ;)

They're still pretty young for a band but I'm suuuper looking forward to their show.

They've only released 4 singles thus far, after major debuting back in 2011. Their first album is due in 4 days, though, so let's get hyped up to see them in May!

Most recent first:
Sweet Drive PV
Bye Bye LIVE - Kimi to Boku. OP
Lovers PV - Naruto Shippuden OP
Fallin Love PV - High School Debut Live Action Movie Theme

Hotel and Facilities / Re: safety at night
February 24, 2013, 07:54:35 PM
I can't really say it's safe for a lone anyone to be walking around at midnight...However, there'll still be some con-goers wandering at that time, so it won't be just you on the street or anything. If there's an event your going to that runs until midnight, chances are there'll be people who have to get back to the Fairmont at the same time too--Can't vouch for everyone, you can try asking if you can walk with them. Or walk in front of them...stay alert, etc.

Just here to push the GazettE again.

Lots of fans have been going to the band, asking them to come to X country, but really it's the company and the people who interact with the company that we should be asking.

I don't know if they'd like to do a live in lieu of a con, but...they'd really like to go overseas. It appears that it's just that they don't get the requests to come. (link link source sourcee). This year's con is nearly here, but I think it'd be good for future reference...

I think UVERworld, AKFG, and Home Made Kazoku AND ONE OK ROCK would make really fun lives :D

Video Programming / Re: Asian Film Room

I'd love to see both Rurouni Kenshin and Thermae Romae! I've heard fantastic things about both films and have been waiting for them to be shown in the Bay Area.

omg that show is PRICELESS.
My friend says I have no taste for liking it, but if it's not the epitome of side-splitting humor, then I don't know what is.

A plan.

Sounds stupid, but once the schedule comes out, you should really spend a few quality minutes deciding what events, if any, you want to attend.  You can't do everything at the convention - there's no way you'd have enough time and energy for that.  So prioritize what you want most from the convention.  Leave enough time for you to attend the events, including taking into account lines, getting a bite to eat and things of that nature.  Try not to deviate from your plan much, and, as always, make sure you get a good night's sleep every day.  You want to make sure you're alert for the events that you want to attend.

I really have to second this. While things can change timing-wise at-con, it's good to get the events you really want to attend prioritized. Don't wanna miss something really cool because you didn't know when it was!!

Oh yes, though this is probably very trivial in comparison to the other feedback that's been left thus far, I was wondering if this would be possible for next year:
oh i was not aware of this. This is actually pretty important to me as well for you guys to have. Ill make a note of it and hopefully The system will have it implemented next year.

I'm wondering, now that registration is up, will something like this be implemented this year...?

Things in the Universe / Re: Who Likes To Read?
January 12, 2013, 08:32:52 AM
I've been dissatisfied with the lack of reading I've done the last few years, so I'm making an effort to find more time to get started again. Right now I'm trudging (haha) through Tolkien's works--gets hard to read if I'm not in the mood, and am planning on reading A Game of Thrones after.

I enjoy reading and think I should read more, but I like movies/TV series too, and both take up a lot of timerndmksmagan :(

Registration / Re: 2013 Registration

hopefully the first set of prices will go down to I think it was $40 again back in '11 before the Alchemy con made fanime hike up 5 dollars for starter rate.

At-con pre-reg was $45 this year, meaning, that when pre-reg goes online, it'll probably $50. The price goes up every few years to compensate for inflation, bigger acts/events, and higher rates for the services [like renting venue space], should the companies decide to up their prices.

Well, the theme thing is still in the works, meaning, I don't think fanime had really figured out what they want to do with the theme yet. I'm sure in the years to come, when themed-events/activities can make their appearance, themes will be much more interactive.

As for polling...it gets really messy really quickly. I remember they do take suggestions, which is nice considering fans usually get no say at all. The team that decides the theme has other things to consider, not just the 'cosplayability' (among other things) of the theme. Fans might not know that, so a fan-only poll might not cover the 'feasibility' base, and just the 'dude that'd be wicked cool' base. I know having preliminary rounds in the polls (where the staff weed out some suggestions) kind of fixes the problem, but then there would be a lot of themes that wouldn't be a surprise anymore, which I find kind of cool [findig out at the closing ceremony].

Tl;dr I like them keeping it a secret til closing ceremony. I'm sure I could say more, but that's the gist of it.
