who would it be and why?



Out of all the anime I've seen (and trust me, I've seen a lot), I'd have to say that Miyazawa Yukino from Karekano ranks as #1 for dating potential. Why? Because she is the complete package. Yukino is smart, naturally beautiful, and very outgoing. She's strong willed enough to be independant and solve her own problems, yet she leans on others for support whenever she feels the need. I appreciate how she listens to others, and then responds w/ how she truly feels, while at the same time, complicating her mind with complex or heart-filled thoughts. Yeah, Yukino ranks top on my list, but who would rank high on your list for dating potential?

For me, obviously Naru Narusegawa. Nerdy-smart and cute.

Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi. I love a guy that you can do girl stuff with (and he wont complain!) We could play with makeup, giggle, talk, and just generally hang out. I'd love to have a guy who would do fun girly things with me, and Nurikos the top candidate in the "girly men" catagory.

- Onime no Kyou (SAMURAI DEEPER KYO) - Mmm..... That voice, that attitude, what's not to love?

- Son Gokuu (Saiyuuki) - he's so cute and energetic

- Genjyou Sanzou (Saiyuuki) - One word: korosu. XD

- Heero Yuy (Gundam W) - 3 words: Omae wo korosu. LoL! Plus Midorikawa sama. =3

- Hazuki Kei (Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side) - God damn he's cute! And that voice..... Who else but Midorikawa sama could play a role so perfect? =P He sounds even more emotionless than Heero, but in a good way!

- Tasuki (Fushigi Yuugi) - It'd be interesting. ^^

- Tooya (Ayashi no Ceres) - The silent type.

- Arai Tougo kun (Sotsugyou M) - The bad-ass of M, rides a motorcycle, has no respect for authority, and that voice! (Midorikawa sama, of course) Who the heck could resist?

- Midou Ban (GetBackers) - He's cool. Simple as that.

- Alucard (Hellsing) - Well this would be interesting indeed...



Umm... And I think that's all for now. Of course there are tons of other bishounen I love, but I'd have to type a few more hours to get a full list. ^^;

Let'sa just say that I have too many choices, ok?

now would you guys seriously choose naru narusegawa? think about it... yeah, she's smart, ambitious, and caring, but she'll kick your @$$!, straight up. sure, if your the bdsm type otaku, but if you even talk to a girl, naru will come out of nowhere and make you a star in the sky. that, and she's too slow in persuing a relationship. you'll have to court her for years until she realizes you like her.



as for nuriko... well, if you're a guy dating her for the first time, and you later found out that she's actually male, then that's some crying game ish. but if you know that she's male from hello, then y'all just freaky.



tomoe from the rurouni kenshin ova's is another canidate on my dating potential list. although she might plot to kill you, she'll die for you in the very end. now that's gangsta'! also, kaoru from kenshin is another girl for me. girls that are understanding and comitted are always a plus, and kaoru will be w/ you every step of the way, welcoming you home w/ a smile.

...but I like girls that can kick my @$$! It proves that they, at the very least, notice me!



To add, again, to my list: Sango from InuYasha. I'm not a perv like Miroku, so at least I won't be slapped.

i do have to agree with u on the gay thing about nuiko, but he is just so pretty....

OK Guys: (to warn you, I have a thing for cross-dressers...;) )

1- Nuriko (Fushigi Yugi). He is honestly my ideal guy. Funny, in-touch with his feminine side, brave, strong, and just an all-around great guy. I think it's so sweet how he cross-dresses because of his sister...*sigh* I don't think I'll ever meet a guy like him, tho. But yeah he's like the PERFECT guy for me (not saying there's anything wrong with my boyfriend...but if he was a crossdresser I think I'd be scared, huh Sasori. :D You would be too--lmao!!)

2- Tamahome (FY). He is drmy!! Just like the "knight in shining armor" type. I love that. And his voice...*drool* Oh lord his voice...well except when he's screaming "MIAKA!!!" which he tends to do a lot. lol

3- Hotohori (ok I know...but the FY guys are all great!!) He's SOOOOO pretty!!!! Ahhhh!!! *drool* but he's a bit full of himself. I don't think our personalities would fit together very well.

4- Count D (Pet Shop of Horrors). Can you say GORGEOUS?!? *swoon* I just love him! His mysterious-ness...his 2 different colored eyes...and his weakness for sweets!! And besides that, his grandpa is so kawaii!!

5- Lantis (Rayearth). Ok he's just awesome. And hot. But Sasori makes fun of me cuz he has big shoulders. lol :D

OK now Girls: (this is a tough one...)

1- Haruka (Sailor Moon). I love how she's so man-ish, but then again she still has those female qualities. She has the coolest, most smooth personality...she's just cool. No other way to put it.

2- Urd (Ah! Megami-sama). I love her attitude!! And she's really pretty. And funny. I dunno...I just really like her personality.

3- Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena). Yeah...I know everyone in this series sleeps with each other (lol) but I really like Utena. And always have. Not just cuz she's a main character, though...she just has one of those admirable personalities (in my perspective, anyway.)

4- Umi (Rayearth). Hey I just realised that the last 3 began with "U"...lol. Anyway I love Umi. She is so beautiful, and elegant...and soooo funny in the manga. She's just soooo cute. ^.^

5- Michiru (Sailor Moon). What can I say? I'm a sucker for elegance, beauty, and skirts. :D lol I've always admired Michiru. Her and Haruka's relationship is just so pretty...*sigh* I'm jealous.

I find it strange how violent most people make Naru out to be.  From what I observed, she only gets violent when Keitaro gives her an occasion to be.  Considering how Keitaro has horrendous luck, that happened quite often, but for any average guy, it really shouldn't be much of a problem at all.  Besides, a girl like that would definately add some spice to my life.  I, for one, would welcome it.

I adore Wolfwood from Trigun now. I don't know why, I just DO. It's one of those things in life you can't explain, like why toast always lands jelly-side down, why Nanako's boobs don't make her snap in half, and why Miaka doesn't just accept Tamahome loves her and get on with her life.

heh heh heh... I love them ALL!  How can I pick just one? Or 2? Or twenty?  There are some that I would want to hug and squeeze and pet.  (Even though they would try to escape) such as Shippo (Inu Yasha), Haku (Sen to Chihiro), and Inu Yasha himself( I really do wanna squeeze his ears! :D ) ... Limiting myself to 3.  Then there are the bishonen which include all of Weiss (even though the urge to smack Omi will occur), The boys from Fushigi yuugi (Watase's guy's are so hot!), and the guys from Desendents of Darkness.  hee hee.  I limited myself honest!  I didn't even go into the whole angsty cuteness of Hiei (yu yu hakusho) and Subaru in fact all of Clamps guys (Tokyo Babylon).  Are Harems allowed?

For your information, there are a couple of gay characters in CCS.  Tomoyo obviously loves Sakura and Syaoran did like Yukito.  It also seems like Sakura liked Mizuki-sensei, but she doesn't really.  Aside from that, Touya and Yukito love each other and Sonomi (Tomoyo's mother) seems to love Nadeshiko, but they aren't fourth graders, so they don't count for this discussion.  And then there are also the interesting couples: Rika with Terada-sensei and Eriol with Mizuki-sensei.  Aa~... gotta love CLAMP-style romance. ^_^

CLAMP-styled romances... often much more bizarre than yer standard love polygons.

ah yes.. totally forgot about syaoran with yukito...

I think Eriol is suppose to be as old as Sakura's Father...

he just keep his body like that so he can meet sakura... but it still weird to see Mizuki with Eriol...

Kohaku was never male.  Or female for that matter.  In the Wish world, angels and daemons are asexual.  Although, angels tend to appear female-like in appearance, while daemons appear male-like.

it's interesting that you guys/gals bring up the whole gay/bi/straight issue when it comes to anime dating. although li shaoran likes yukito, it's more of an affectionate sense rather than just being "gay." he has no homosexual tendencies, and if you look into the series much later, you'd see that li falls for sakura, so much as to constantly protect her. same goes for tomoyo, who loves being around sakura so much. keep in mind that the nature of love differs between the american culture and the japanese culture, where here, love is more explicit and to the point, whereas in japan, it's more reserved and romantic, so to speak.

It's been a while since I've read the manga, but I believe it was indeed stated that Syaoran liked Yukito in that way prior to falling in love with Sakura.  If my memory's failing me, I apologize.  As for Tomoyo, there's no question she loves Sakura.  In the manga, there are many occasions where she makes it blantantly obvious.  Of course, Sakura, being the naive child we love so much, never notices.  Poor Tomoyo....  And yes, I'm familiar with how differently love is expressed in Japan.

It's not like I ever made an effort to hide my gender. ^_^;  As for the issue of gender ambiguity on the net, there are probably a wide gamut of reasons why someone would like to keep their gender hidden.  For example, females may wish to escape from inevitable cat calls or males may wish to keep the option of playing a female open so that they may exploit fellow males.  In my case, I just like the name Tsubasa and I happen to adore Hoshino Ruri.  I suppose that may lead others to believe that I'm female, but it's certainly not my intent.

I usually like to keep my gender secret or even act female in other places because females are generally more mature than males  :wink: and the way my personality is, I sometimes identify more with females than males in certain aspects.

You know, every time I see the name "Tsubasa," I keep thinking about that Ranma 1/2 character, Tsubasa Kurenai...yes, that Tsubasa... the cross-dressing guy that went out with Ukyo before she transfered to Ranma's high school...

oh yeah, about that tsubasa, i was just thinking about tsubasa shibahime from karekano, and whenever i think anything karekano, i get excited. didn't know tsubasa is common in anime/manga :?



here's a question: would any of you be interested in dating another person interested in anime, or would you rather date someone who watches anime casually, if not, not at all? to date and otaku or not to date, that is the question. personally, i'd rather not date another otaku. i'm the type of person that likes to introduce new things to people, and i don't think i could compete w/ a girl that shares my same hobbies, be it sports, music, games. whaddya think?

From what I've observed, Tsubasa isn't exactly a common name, but it's out there and you can see people and anime characters named Tsubasa on occasion.  And, also, from what I can tell, it also seems unisex, which seems to be the general trend for the vast majority of Japanese names (only it seems more often associated with females).



I've long decided that anyone I may be considering dating must share my hobbies: watching anime, reading manga, and gaming.  Why?  Because I do way too much of all of those and I'm sure any normal person would eventually become annoyed.  I need someone who will understand my hobbies and will actually enjoy them with me.  I'm also not one who likes being the all mighty "I know everything and I shall show you" type either.  So a casual fan is not preferred either.  I gotta say, I would prefer a fangirl.  Someone who would prefer gaming sessions to something like going out to a club.  Yeah, now that's a girl. ^_^

I think an all anime house would be fun! I also agree with Tsubasa about the dating thing.  Anybody I date would HAVE to like anime more then just a little.  It's my main hobby/ obsession.  Just ask my friends.  I mean would you want to spend the bulk of your  free time with someone who was so boring as to not like anime?  There's something out there for everyone! :D

Syaoran, on the other hand, is a name you should avoid when namin' a boy.

Personally, I have to find someone who would at least accept my otakuness, if not be an otaku themselves.  As to the naming kids stuff, I see no problem with someone naming their child Sakura.  I've been planning to name my child Aki (when and if I have one) simply cause I love the name and what it means(autumn)...well, that and I knew a Japanese exchange student in high school and that's her name. ^_^

I think it's a bit of both.  I know I'm relatively young, but it seems like time this year has passed by so quickly.  Personally, I'm just getting used to Freshman year at college, but this academic year's almost over (which is marked by Fanime).  I'm gonna have to plan out my future immediately (finding a major, finding a job, finding a significant other if possible) because time seems to be passing by much quicker now.

hmmm, this is a tough question, even for me. if my date was miyazawa yukino, i'd take her to cha cha cha's on height, sf, for drinks and tapas. then, for dessert, sophies crapes in japantown, sf, and we'd probaly wait inside kinokuniya and read her journals since the crape line always takes an hour. then, club milk on height for more drinks and dancing, and top that off with some cuddlin' in an area overlooking the bay (wonder why i never even thought of taking my regular dates to these places).

Carnival, man, carnival.  I'd like to go to one of those Japanese festivals with them booths and crap, but since we're not in Japan, the carnival is probably the closest equivilent.

Out of new releases(the past year or so?) who do you like best?

See, I saw him show up when he registered and tried to get him banned earlier (oh come on, you don't anticipate trouble when somebody signs up for the Fanime forum as "anime sucks fat ass"?) but it didn't really work out until now.



Oh yea, all the posts earlier got drowned out for me, so I went back to read it all, so I'm gonna pull up some ancient stuff to put my opinions on.



I would rather go out with somebody who's interested in anime, but not the same types I am in.  That way we can keep babbling about something the other person doesn't really understand.  I would find that amusing ^^  And we'll have all the genres covered, woo!



One interest I have that I don't really see many women engaged in is video games though.  That's my other main hobby aside from anime, and I would really like to meet somebody who likes to play the same stuff I do.

Heh. Those who think that hardcore girlgamers are a rare breed really don't know to look. I know everything from casual gamers, to DDR fanatics (there's one in New York that was really crazy over DDR! o_O) to the more pure hardcore gamers.



True, they aren't the most common people on the gaming scene, but it's a flawed concept to consider them rare.

The vast, vast majority of girl gamers I know are casual fans and/or DDR players, without any hint of indepth knowledge about the gaming scene, history, etc.  I would agree with your assessment that girl gamers in general are not rare, but I think it's fairly safe to say that hardcore female gamers are.  The problem is, games have and still are a male-dominated hobby.  That male domination seems to be eroding slowly now, but ten years ago, girl gamers were, more or less, unheard of.  Without a nice solid background in gaming, I find that most girl gamers cannot follow in serious gaming discussions and lack the kinds of experiences that I have because I have been in the hobby for so long.  Now don't pounce on me anyone.  This is merely an observation taken from experience.

What better base for starting on the road to a relationship is there than a healthy obsession with Japanese cartoons? It's getting tiring hearing the same old lines repeated ad nauseum.

The problem is that the majority of anime fans are romantics.  Because of this and the fact that anime portrails men and women in very idealistic manners, too many of them become too caught up in some grand search for their ideal mate, who is generally either an exact replica of their favorite anime crush or some kind of juxtaposition of traits from multiple characters.  More fans need to be more realistic.  It's generally not a good idea to set your goals too high; you'll just be disappointed.

Just because you have things in common doesn't mean you'll always get along, if anything it usally starts competition or jealousy besides I think the reason people like anime is that you can get into it but be safe. People relate to the feelings and chacaters but don't get hurt or anything because its just a movie or show. It like an escape of reality to still feel as if you relate to soemnoe but without the consequences, and all the things we adore in it is like a dream. I know when my life gets furstrating and complicated i  turn to anime because it gets my mind off things  it just something always nice to watch

This is a serious discussion me thinks.

Many, MANY otaku on all sides of the sexuality table complain endlessly about the state of dating FOR otaku, but never consider to discuss and consider the situation for themselves.  The problem is not just for 'otaku'.  It's more of a problem for geek and nerd kind and I think that the discussion must be had.  I think the only reason why anime fandom is important to the discussion is that anime fandom attracts people from both genders and all sorts of backgrounds.  The insights and information that everyone can bring to this discussion can be rather enlightening.  

Why not here?  Why not now?  What do girls want?  What do boys want?  When should we tar and feather Dr. Phil and Dr. Laura?  These are important questions.  They need to be answered.
