incase anyone is curious (like i was)... here is a super rough Guesstimate at the cost of the convention center's cost of rental only...aka a WAG.

according to San Jose Convention Center & Team San Jose Benchmarking Analysis performed by CSL International
on September 20, 2012 (first thing i found on google)...our convention center costs  from 21 cents up to 42 cents depending on the which space we rent at 550,000 sq. ft and lets tack on 5% for escalation. just once, cause its out of date by 2 years and normally you can see ~3% per year in my industry.

121,275 to 242,550 is a range we can play with. Now, out of laziness and not wanting to dig too much, lets just go with 181,912. Now continuing with more assumptions, we lease the place out for 5 days and we get to 909,562. wow! that a lot of $$$  for just the rental space alone (just the SJCC). But this doesnt include things that we need to pay for including but not limited to; signage, medical staff, Union staff, security staff, electricity, water coolers, our beloved AC. Looks like the costs are just adding up!

I would love to get my hands on the finance books to see how much things really cost and start looking for inefficiencies, but thats not my department. I sit around the asian film room and show ya'll some hopefully amusing films.

Disclaimer: all this info is based on standard knowledge of renting commercial space, a bit of google, and a calculator.

EDIT: There are a ton of assumptions. ie) no discounts, price is by day not by hour (which is probably a very bad thing to assume) and a whole lot more.

Antique (2008 Korean) (I know it's not 2010+ but I'd really like to see it) (Kirariken: Considered. I will see if i can get a copy and fit it in.)
Ai Ore! (2012 Japanese)(Kirariken: Considered. I will see if i can get a copy and fit it in.)
Gantz and Gantz II Perfect Answer (2011 Japanese)(Kirariken: cannot show these as of right now)

The live action Black Butler movie maybe? (Kirariken: That released just in January. I will keep watch if we can get a copy)
Also any chance of showing J or K dramas at the convention? (Kirariken: actually, i believe we use to show some but due to low participation, we dropped it.. i am considering adding some to Thursday's line.)

Attention!

Please consider the Asian Film Room open to suggestions for 2014. We take your suggestions very seriously and hope to be able to fill our schedule with your favorite films. A few conditions do apply though!

  • Released 2010+
  • Not previously shown at Fanime 2010-2013

There are some exceptions to these rules, so dont be too afraid to voice your suggestions.

Many thanks,
-ken

I really enjoyed Thermae Romae! The screens were a little high, though--I was still straining to look up even though I sat pretty far back. The screen was also fairly small, but that's due to the aspect ratio of the widescreen movies. I don't expect that to be a problem aside from these live-action film. I don't know if going to standard from widescreen is something you guys would consider changing though.

It was a pity both screenings of Kenshin were during MusicFest events, and that the second Liar Game screening was in the middle of the night. I would've loved to see those two! I know you can't satisfy everyone, but I was looking forward to Kenshin, especially ;;

1)AFR has read and understood your desire for standard ratio. I will bring it up when we meet.
2)We will attempt to better coordinate our larger films so they do not constantly clash with other major events around the con. There were 3 showings as well...2 in the Asian Film Room(Sat/Sun) and 1 in Video main (Mon).

Yes, thank you for the video programming!  I was very happy to see Kenshin on the schedule and my daughter was expecialy excited that Ace Attorney was as well.  The only negative was Liar Game was after midnight and we couldn't make it. :(
I am glad you enjoyed the selection this year. However, i do apologize for the bad timing of Liar Game.

AFR takes your comments very seriously. Please keep them coming to help us serve you better.

This list is final, right? I hope Kenshin and Ace Attorney are playing when I'm not busy! Also stoked to see Thermae Romae on there. That movie is so fun. :)

Yes... and No. A few of them have been changed, but Kenshin, Ace Attorney, & Thermae are all there still.

So bummed that it hasn't been and that the DVD that's available doesn't have English subtitles. :(

Get a malay version. i got this for myself and it does have English subtitles.

also a few updates about the requests:
Kenshin: As long as it is unlicensed. As of today; i see no information saying that it is ... BUT there are sources saying that it is in the process...
Thermae: unable to find a copy with eng subs for sale. Not sure if this is an issue however.

Any chance of seeing the live action Rurouni Kenshin movie?

I am discussing this currently with those higher than me.

I know the Asian Film room does not check the forums very often... But as part of the AFR staff, I am glad to inform you that the reccomendation for Gyakuten Saiban has been noted.

Ken may show up D: (thats me ~~> http://kirariken.deviantart.com/ <~~) ive been meaning to post something on this for a while now, but with only a few months left, i made sure i got to it lol. so yeah. ----> more info!

Well depending on my time and school work/etc ;_; , my gf and i will for sure be at fanime for at least a day. (((if you saw me wandering around like a lost idiot looking for my friends D: ))) but yeah. Ill make a note of this meeting and do my best to make it....

I will be in the same uniform as i was last year (lol lazy me, prob wear tennis shoes this time cause the ones i wore last year were annoying >.o )  and the gf will be in a Yuki Cross Cosplay and/or an artist's reformation of the dress Yuki wore during the ball in vol 7 i believe.

If we do show up for this photo shoot. expect us to be at the BW ball :D its gonna be the replacement for me not being able to go to my HS prom hehe =]

il check in again in a couple days.
