General Convention Discussion / Fanime-ccino
June 04, 2009, 04:59:50 PM
Did anyone order the "Fanime-ccino" from the Hilton bar? I'm curious as to what it is/was.

For at-con registration, are credit or debit cards accepted (Visa)?

General Convention Discussion / On wheels?
February 17, 2008, 10:28:04 PM
I don't know where exactly this question should be asked....

Anyways, are there any sort of rules or something where we can/can't use some kind of 'transportation' on the convention floor?

By 'transportation', I mean things like roller blades, roller skates, shopping carts, tricycles, scooters, those toy big-wheels, and others (wheelchairs are different). Of course, it would not be like going fast or racing, but I'm planning a cosplay that uses wheels of some sort.

General Convention Discussion / In case of emergencies
February 06, 2008, 11:15:37 PM
Does the convention, convention center, and hotels have specific procedures when it comes to evacuations and/or emergencies? There were 3 small earthquakes this week in San Jose and was wondering what will Fanime, the hotels, and the SJCC do in case of major emergencies. Also, are Fanime staff/vols trained on what to do in emergencies? Of course, "keep aisles clear" and "fire hazard" are key words, but what about evacuations and similar procedures?

Hopefully it won't happen, but you never know.

Things in the Universe / Earthquake(s)!
February 06, 2008, 11:10:50 PM
There was another small earthquake tonight at 10:30. It was like the 3rd one this week. Kinda scary, but we're in CA, so meh.

[bad pun alert!]
It's all Alum Rock's fault!

General Convention Discussion / Classic Fanime shirts
December 04, 2007, 09:59:33 PM
Anyone know where I can get (buy, order, etc) Fanime t-shirts from past years? I'd like to get another 2k and 2001 shirt.

Gaming / Wii gaming?
October 25, 2007, 04:30:31 PM
Any chance that there will be space (and interest) for Wii gaming in e-gaming? I know that Smash Bros Brawl is a possibility (if it doesn't get delayed again), but how about multiplayer/party games like Wii Sports, Mario Party, Wario Ware, etc...?

There's also Virtual Console/Old School gaming and DS Demo Download Channel (coming soon).

Just an idea.

I was driving around Downtown SJ today and I saw them taking down the "This is Sharks Territory" banners (*sob*) and replacing them with the Fanime banners! They're gonna be all over Downtown SJ soon!

Just a thought. If the Sharks were still in the playoffs, the convention would be at the same time as the Sharks games. That means a LOT of media attention, especially if it's the Stanley Cup finals, and a LOT of people downtown.
Too bad the Sharks were eliminated...

What does Fanime do with all of the badges that weren't picked up for the con? I think there were some pre-reg badges not picked up or something the past few years.

If theres any drama or dispute going on with, well, anyone, maybe we have a mock trial as a panel. Complete with a Phoenix Wright, Edgeworth, judge, and of course:

Panels and Workshops / Great Teacher Largo...?
March 07, 2007, 02:13:53 PM
I remember that GTL was on the schedule last year, but didn't happen (I tried to call him but didn't answer or anything). Any idea if there's gonna be one this year?

Gaming / Fanime rec room
February 12, 2007, 07:11:13 PM
How about this for an idea? A game room for not just video games, arcade games, or tabletop games, but for parlor/social games!
Includes:
-pool tables
-table tennis tables
-air hockey tables
-foozball tables
-pinball machines (um...actually an arcade machine...)
-dart board (magnetic, not sharp pointy objects)
-shuffleboard
-putting greens
-jukebox
-others

(crazy idea?)

General Anime Chat / The "What was that anime?" thread
October 04, 2006, 01:38:16 PM
Note: this is not a question/answer game thread.

Yesterday I saw something that had a girl singing about bananas and was wondering what that name of the anime was. Lisu, Jyun, Tsubasa, and Sunara might know what I'm talking about. Gonna youtube it when I find out.

Things in the Universe / Fanimarket!
September 16, 2006, 10:15:49 PM
I was talking with Jyun (my brother) about this idea where there can be like a thread here about buying and selling stuff from each other, like a huge classified/wanted/selling ad for board members. We both thought its a good idea, so I'm starting it now! (May become a sticky if popular)

Rules:
-List things willing to sell (a.k.a. "get rid of")
-List things wanted that other people may have (most likely in used condition)
-Name your price, negotiate, etc...
-Reply by PMs
-Work out the transaction on own terms (like at a gathering or something)
-When transaction finished, edit your post
-No bootlegs, like any other dealers room

(updated 2/5/08)
Wanted:
-Super Smash Bros. Brawl (<-who doesn't want it?)

Sell:
-Nothing at this time

Don't know if this idea is going to work, but it worth a shot, right?
EDIT: LOL, thread not as popular as I thought it would be after 2 years.

Recently, the SJCC replaced their old sign (the neon yellow/black tiles. During FC06, it had a "construction under way" sign) with a new TV screen. According to the Merc, it's an HD screen! It's gonna turn on for the 1st time this weekend for the Grand Prix, showing live track racing feeds.

For sure, Fanime is gonna tap into this technology in some way... :P

Ideas and Suggestions / Signs policy?
June 06, 2006, 12:09:19 PM
Should there be a sign policy for all con goers? A sign is not a cosplay, unless the character holds a sign in the actual anime (a la Ranma's dad as a panda).

General Convention Discussion / Your best day
May 31, 2006, 09:37:49 PM
What's your best day of the con, in terms of programming and overall happenings? Amazingly, I liked the Thursday of Fanime, because everyone is well rested and ready. There was also the swap meet and everything (and everyone) was 'fresh'.

We'll be using quarters instead of tokens this year, right? You think there will be a shortage of quarters?

General Convention Discussion / "fanimecon.com"
May 17, 2006, 02:16:17 PM
I tried typing "fanimecon.com" and see what comes up. It's a webpage of nothing, just a typical spam link page. Any chance of getting this domain for the future?

Dealers Room / Deal or No Deal?
May 01, 2006, 11:16:08 AM
Is it OK to barter (verbally) some dealers into lowering their advertised prices to get a better deal? Or is this something that can only be done during the Swap Meet?
For example: if there are DVDs I want to by that is advertised/shown as $20 each, can I ask to buy two for $30?

BTW, I just love the real DoND show, as you can tell... ^_^,

Hotel and Facilities / Elevators and escalators
March 04, 2006, 11:03:32 PM
Why is it that there always seem to have an escalator or elevator failure somewhere during a anime convention? And most of the time, it's the night before the Friday start, too.

General Anime Chat / Megatokyo Jeopardy
February 20, 2006, 09:48:13 PM
Dominic Nguyen, better known as Shirt Guy Dom from Megatokyo and attends many Bay Area anime cons, will be appearing on Jeopardy! this Tuesday night (2/21). Just putting this out there.

Upon passing by the Santa Clara Convention Center yesterday, I realized that the old home of Fanime, the Westin Hotel, is no more! They changed to the Hyatt Santa Clara. I don't know if it is of any significance for anyone here now, unless FC moves back there.

Hyatt or Westin, it'll always be known as the old home of Fanime, and the place where I first attended an anime convention.
