Heya guys!  Just an update.  I know several of you have shown interest in my table space.  I'm happy to report that I did get the tables.  So I just need confirmation that there's still interest in those that have contacted me already.  I'm still going first come first serve.  That order is:

I do have a question about addresses and who to make the check out to and stuff, Ewu (I sent you a note... your name sounds familiar).  I plan to send it in, regardless.

Sorry, table sharers, with it being sold out in June 2008 I guess I would be on the "pending space" list.  I'll give you more details soon.

I also hope that the application is alright.  I have it printed out and I have it halfway filled out.  (Waiting until my paypal works again so I can send in the registration fee before I send in the table contract)

Is there some other information we need to add to the old application?  Do you want to know what we'll be selling?

Hi everyone!  This year I decided to get a table.  But not just one table, two tables!  I have a lot of stuff to offer this year. 

So what I really want is someone who only needs about 1/2 a table.  Why?  Because it's a pain to pack up all your stuff when you need to use the restroom or you need to go get lunch.  It's best to have someone at the table to watch over things and say, "They went to the restroom but they'll be right back!"  Buddy system works well.

What I'm looking for:
1. Someone who plans to be there at least Friday through Sunday.  It needs to be worth it to share the cost of that second table (you'll also need your sales permit).  And be there most of the day... I can understand panels, restroom or food breaks... also ducking out early to go to dealer's booth.  That's fine.  But no abandoning me with your stuff for several hours.  If you must leave for more than an hour, pack up.  I'll do the same.

2. You don't have to know who I am, but it's a plus if I've met you before either from Fanime or Yaoicon.  "Hey!  You're that other girl who made Gaia hats and plushies who is not Queen of Spades!"  Yes, I know Queen of Spades.  :waves to Lucky if she appears:  Or "Hey!  You're that girl who handed out dolphin earrings at Yaoicon this year!"  Yep, that's me!  I will happily take on newbies to Artist Alley.

3. It would be nice if your part of the table kinda fit with mine.  I'm going to be doing jewelry (earrings, bracelets, rosaries, necklaces), beaded bookmarks, art (drawn and photography), cards (drawn and photography), badges, buttons, plushies, ears and tails (if I have time).  Also dollfie clothes and jewelry.  I tend to lean towards animals and fantasy.

So if we send in the contract, the fee and a copy of our sales permit, is that a guarantee of a space?  

Right now I have a seller's permit for my town, but I'll be getting a temporary one for Fanime because San Jose is 8.25% and my town is 8.75%.  

And for those who don't want to bring a calculator to figure out sales tax... there's a Tax Schedule available through the Board of Equalization website.

I heard from the Board of Equalization yesterday afternoon and I should be receiving my seller's permit sometime this week.  But I still haven't heard from Fanime.  I've already begun to make things and I'm a little worried.

Edit: I received my seller's permit yesterday.

Is there a delay in getting return emails?  I sent mine yesterday and haven't heard back... will it be a few days?  That's what I hope and not that it's lost somewhere.  

Please don't let it be lost somewhere.

I realized that immediately after I posted... but... Lucky still needs luck.  Rock on, Queen of Spades!  I hope to see her again this year in the artist colony.  And if she plans another panel, I'm still here.

Also if they are newbie hat maker... there's no shame in using a hat pattern from McCalls (as long as they don't sell from that pattern).  Maybe a list of hat patterns from Simplicity, McCalls and Butterick to fill their personal needs (not for mass selling)?

Maybe if they plan to go into the hat business... some common courtesy tips?  Like... DON'T get angry because another hat maker uses fleece or covers the same characters you do.  We're all working with the same materials and the same characters.  As long as they don't try to remake your pattern, you should be alright because even when several people cover the same character they tend to look different.  (Example: Your OMG, My OMG, Anyone else's OMG, and the official OMG)  I still have my version of OMG if you want to borrow it for a visual aid on how "different" patterns can be.

This year I hope to get an Artist Colony table and sell plushies.  (I have a few hats leftover, but it's mostly plushies this year)  Let me know if you need anything!

I have been worried too.  I keep checking the website every few days, hoping I don't miss it.  I know how bad it was back in 2005.  2006 looks like they got a bigger room (I didn't have a AA table last year, I volunteered at the Gaiaonline booth instead).  This year I hope to go back to AA.  

And I'm already starting to make inventory... so I really hope I don't miss sign-ups.

Unrealistic... I don't know... Probably the old official Gravitation merchandise... the stuff that I don't even think exists anymore for sale.  And the Gravitation artbook that was printed in 1998.  I think I'll have to go to JPQueen for that.

good, good. so how do we want to run this? do you like the idea i had before, with the two or three sample costume analysis, one easy and one hard?

Lucky for us, things like kimono are usually straight seams... they are so easy to make with just measurements.  Although I should bring my "Make your own Japanese clothes" book.  Actually there are several books I could bring.  Most of my resource books are historical... Medieval, Viking, general "clothing through history", folkwear, Japanese... if we want to pick something along that vein we could pretend to use one of the books as a "resource."

I do like the idea of two or three sample costume analysis.  I suppose we'll need something to draw a mock up pattern on.  

Hmm... one we could use a book as source... another we could use a modified pattern....

goody, that's probably all we can cover anyway! ^____^ i don't think we should focus on basic sewing stuff...sewing classes are for that. i think more on the costume analysis (figuring out what's under, how the costume is worn, etc) and pattern making should be focused on more...

i have no idea really how to teach people to make patterns...

Measurements... lots and lots of measurements.  That's how I make kimono.  ^^v  Also finding similar existing  patterns and modifying them...

I like the idea of "what's under" and "how to wear" because a lot of people focus on the outside and ignore what's underneath.

Layer cheating is ok if the costume is already bulky (ie, a 7 layer kimono).  But a lot of layer cheating just seems to come from lack of research.  I suppose giving them clues on how to research the costume would be good.

I would be more than happy to help you.  I've been costuming for 13 years... and fabric stores own my soul.

Was it decided what to cover?

May I suggest there be a basic basics panel too?  So you can cover straight stitch (handstitch)?  A lot of cosplayers walk around held together with duct tape, glue and safety pins because they don't even know a simple straight stitch.  And how many times do you hear, "I want to make a costume but I can't sew"?
