Title: Fanimaid Cafe 2009 (UPDATE: Maid try outs are officially CLOSED.)
Post by: Jun-Watarase on December 10, 2008, 05:07:13 PM
Greetings Fanime attendees!

Check out our website for more information, HERE (http://fanimaidcafe.com/index.php). (Under Construction)

First off, thank you so much for all those who have showed us so much support, thus far! The try outs for our maids are CLOSED, which means, if you hadn't attended the try out meetings, it is not possible to volunteer. Sorry!

We will be hosting a musical performance on Saturday afternoon, 2:00pm on Stage Zero called Fanimaid☆LIVE! Not only that, but our con's very special musical guest, Halko Momoi, is attending the first half to see our tributes to her. Please come, and we'd all appreciate your support!

On Sunday, we will be hosting a raffle and trivia. The anime trivia event is called Quiz Maid Academy and is happening in the cafe, at 6:30pm. Come and win a prize!

The cafe is going to have a lot of changes this year, so stop by to check it out. \o/

First congrats on being the new Maid Head! Jun :D

So, I guess no butlers this year huh?
Training in Sf huh? Thats a different twist, but definately a nice venue.

Any idea what the hours of the Made Cafe will be this year?

Other than that, if you need any other support. Via rides sharing and/or general go-for stuff (within reasonable terms) I'd be glad to help out, depending on my personal schedule.

nothing like random Maid Cafe Chaos :P

and of course a shout out to all past, present and possible future maids who volunteer their time and efforts for a successful event -> maid Cafe :D Wootz!

Thanks Jerry. You're welcome to attend our meetings, as anyone with interest of helping out are welcome to. We are not having butlers this year, as an traditional maid cafe actually does not have butlers present, but we will still be having units from S.O.S. in our area to supervise. Cafe hours are still tentative, but I am predicting it'll be around noon to 6:00pm.

Military Police? So long as we dont have flashbacks, I think I'll be good.
Good thing I'm also helping out with Bouncers Squad. Though I think I've gained weight cuz my old black suite doesnt fit like it used to :P

Time to start running (or chasing) more fangirls :P

Actually, it is not mandatory to attend any specific meeting that is listed up there. Any volunteers may attend any one of those meetings, as long as they fit the basic requirements. From then, they will be trained and evaluated to be chosen for the cafe.

Please email me at [email protected] notifying me with your interest. Please ask your friend to do the same. Thank you.

Also, thanks for those who try to answer questions in my place on this thread to help others, however, please do not give misleading answers if you're unsure of the information given. Thank you.

If you've been following closely, you should all know that we are anticipating our first introductory meeting of the year, this weekend!

    * First, the San Francisco meeting on Saturday, Feb. 07 in Yerba Buena Gardens, at the fountain in The Esplande park area by the Metreon. Meeting begins at 1pm and will end typically at 4pm.

    * Second, the San Jose meeting on Sunday, Feb. 08 at the San Jose Convention Center where Fanime is held. We will meet to the left of the fountain in the entrance at 9am and the meeting will typically end at 1pm.

For all meetings, please make it on time, if not early! We may change location after it is confirmed that the majority has arrived, and you may be left behind if you are too late. Also, please bring a flat surface to write on, and a pen if possible. There will be some minor writing done. Each maid will be evaluated based on performance, so do your best!

See you all there!

- Jun

Hi Jun,

Thanks for the update!

Steve.Young said that I'll be the Psuedo representative from Rovers/Safety again, and I'll help out again this year.  :)
Did you also need me to attend the Meeting on Sunday Morning?

Also, I could act as a driver/ride - share person in case ppl need help getting to the meeting via, Bart, Light Rail Etc.
(within reasonable distances of course)
You know my number, so contact me if you need any support.

Thanks!

Sure thing. I'll be going over rules and conduct with the maids, and what to do in situations where we'll need to direct them to our rovers, so it'll be good to have a representative give some insight to our volunteers accordingly.

See you there!

Anyone is welcome to come and observe.

Also, as an announcement, we now have a website, though it is still under construction.

Edit per request:
Opps matrix err0r.
Reboot.

***

So back on Topic, when did you say the next meeting was?

Also, let me know if we're allowed to have meetings at an indoor private/public location so that our possible-maidcafe-to-bes have a nice sheltered and possibly warmer and (hear-able) location to have meetings at.

We wouldnt want anyone (our potential new maids) to get rained on or frostbitten. I dont think Blue maids would work with the color scheme :P

All of our maids are gamers to some extent, as on the profiles of their questionnaires, there's an option for them to list their favorite games. Though, I would appreciate that you do not use this thread to try to find out our volunteer's contact information. Afterall, one of our main rules at Fanimaid Cafe is "No stalking our maids, or any other action that disrespects their privacy." I would suggest an appropriate alternative, if there were one. Please modify your post and remove the request for our maid's information.

All our introductory meetings... are listed. So one the post, a page before, they're all there. They are also listed on the Volunteers page on our Fanimaid Cafe website. Feel free to ask me questions related to the cafe, however, I must point out that answers to most questions are in the sources provided.

As for the meeting location, meetings in San Jose can be moved into the Hilton Lobby upstairs and they DO get moved into a Hilton conference room during the second half, but the meeting place will remain. The meeting place in San Francisco will remain the same. Please understand that in order to get a venue, I must purchase one out of my own pocket, which is typically a few hundred dollars a day. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Also, to answer a very popular question: "Am I required to wear my uniform to the introductory meeting?"

No. We will all be typically dressed in casual clothing. As these are "try outs", most of our volunteers are assumed to not have owned a uniform this early in. I actually encourage that you do not purchase your uniform before you are confirmed for the cafe. We will go over uniforms during the meeting.

hmm hey jun. those meetings are fun  ;D i was thinking about..for the next meeting in sf... going upstairs inside the metreon then going outside to where those tables were...i duno if you know what im talking about but yea i can show you... unless thats a resturant area. i don't mind ordering a few things because we can use those stuff and tables for actually physical practicing. haha it would be like a real hangout/gathering training place... just hopefully we don't take too long there or we might get kicked out..  :-\

Great suggestion! But I am rather unsure if we'd be able to do that. The safest thing is to remain in the Esplande.

Also, we do not go over waitress training until the follow up meetings happen, which are after maids who pass are confirmed.

Usually with some resturaunts once you are done with your meal and finish paying they give you 30 minutes to hang arround after they ask you to leave because its considered loitering, others really dont care it depends on the place and if its busy or not. Also you would have to talk to managment to see if its okay for you to use it for practice

She was suggesting the seating area on the balconies of the Metreon building. In no possibility would I ask to use a restaurant for practice.

Meetings in San Francisco will remain in The Esplande.

Wahh!

I just now noticed these updates and whatnot. T__T

Therefore, I missed the introductory meeting on the 7th. v__v;
I was a maid last year, and plan to continue on again this year.
Even though i missed the first meeting, would it be alright if i just made it to the next one in SF?
Going to SJ would be slightly iffy for me. :x

As stated on the message, all maids who are interested in trying-out are required to only attend one introductory meeting. There are 2 locations for the convenience of our maids, who may live in different locations. You are not required, nor recommended, that you attend more than one meeting. Please do not attend more than one introductory meeting. Upon passing, you will be required to attend a follow-up meeting, and a short meeting at the con for preparation. Maids will be confirmed sometime in March, via e-mail.

Title: Re: Maids wanted for Fanimaid Cafe 2009! (UPDATE: Meeting on the 28th, canceled.)
Post by: Jun-Watarase on February 26, 2009, 07:07:02 PM
Hello maids!

For those attending the meeting in San Francisco on the 28th, it is predicted that there will be rain all weekend from the recent weather forecast. I have also witnessed a clash in attendance due to WonderCon being on the same weekend. As of now, the meeting is canceled.

For those who unable to attend the meetings on the 7th and 14th, and must absolutely attend this weekend, I will personally discuss with you other possible options. If there is a sufficient amount of people who strongly feel that they must attend this weekend, I will possibly consider a temporary change in location, instead. I apologize for the inconvenience on such short notice.

- Jun

P.S. I am trying to book a meeting room in the Main Library of San Francisco for the meeting on the 7th, so there is a high possibility that there may be a change in location. All San Jose meetings will remain the same.

lol nvm, it's actually the week afterwards. I may swing by if I don't have play obligations, but I'm almost sure I might. X:

Looks like I'll just be a customer, guys. I was really looking forward to doing it again, sorry.

Is there going to be a third meeting in San Jose at all?

I apologize, but we cannot schedule a 3rd San Jose meeting because we need to have our maids confirmed before the end of March. It takes time to evaluate and choose our maids, schedule their hours, and notify them in time to order their uniforms. Hope to see you at the cafe!

Hello maids!

Just a reminder, the last introductory meeting held in San Francisco is tomorrow! It will be held in the same location, and we will meet each other in front of the fountain of Yerba Buena Gardens, in the Esplande. The following meeting, for those near San Jose, will be at the convention center as usual, on the 14th. Good luck, everyone!

:::note not related to anything about staff::::::

Because 99.9% of guys that crossplay are ugly as sin.

A more realistic answer?

Because male maids don't belong in a maid cafe.

I just saw this so it's too late anyways, but why girls only?

Fanimaid Cafe is girls only because we advertise as an authentic traditional Akihabara-style maid cafe, rather than a crossdressing maid cafe. Organizing a crossdressing cafe, along with the traditional maid cafe, would be very impractical. Maid cafes serve a small audience, but crossdressing cafes would serve an even smaller one.

There are many reasons as to why it's impractical, which includes the extra time and effort needed to put into preparation, finding enough volunteers, have a different training program for them, ordering maid uniforms specifically for men... then there comes the fact that there'd be an unstable amount of customers and activity, and other variables may suffer from that. Though, the big one is time. Time put into training and organizing our maids takes up a lot. Frankly, traditional maid cafes and crossdressing cafes are not actually the same-- their differences do not end at simply their sexes.

But if you did not mean crossdressing cafes, but in fact butlers, this is because we are not a butler cafe, and butlers are not a part of maid cafes. Hope that answers your question!

My apologies for the sudden change in schedule, but the March 14th meeting in San Jose will be rescheduled to begin at 1pm, meeting in the same location. For those who have attended the past meetings, you do not need to attend. Please bring a pen and a flat surface to write on. I advise to wear comfortable clothing that you feel compliments your appearance.

First off, thank you so much for all those who have showed us so much support, thus far! The try outs for our maids are CLOSED, which means, if you hadn't attended the try out meetings, it is not possible to volunteer. Sorry!

All those who tried out should hear a response of whether or not they're confirmed by the end of this week. Best of luck to everyone!

I apologize that you were unable to try out, but it is a huge preference that we are able to evaluate our maids in person. Perhaps I will think of an alternative on what to do, next year for SoCal maids. ^^

Looks like I wasn't able to make the cut, but that's okay. (I'll be working in the Info Desk instead. :P.)

Hope to see all the new maids. I'm sure the new maid cafe will be a success.

Do you think it'd be a good idea to set up an outside forum/bbs for accepted maids and all maid cafe staff to discuss in? Or even a facebook group. Sorry for repeating the idea if you already made one.

I had thought of it, but is it necessary? All questions and inquiries are directed to maid cafe staff via authorized email, and all our maids are free to post here. I would like there to be a way for our maids to get to know each other, but somehow I feel that the forum would be used by our maids to ask questions rather than to socialize. I could give it a try, though. Although Facebook isn't a good place to discuss in, I could make a group for Networking purposes. :)

I'll post in this thread about it if anything comes up.

for research and improvement purposes and all.  :)

just ladies... please dont hurt me. i bruise and bleed easily and again its hard to wash that out of the convention grounds. >_<

I don't think it is right to tell other people that they are doing it all wrong because of their ideas and they are trying to do their best.  I think we have to respect the idea of The Funky Fresh Cosplay is hosted the Maid Cafe at AX.  I am more thinking about sharing the ideas of each cafe and making it better and available for all Anime Fans.  I am very happy that AX actually is going to have the maid cafe for girls and guys who live in So CA.

I think what most are talking about is the Idea of a host club, many people reference Ouran when thinking of a host club but While Ouran High school host club was a good series its a terrible example of what a host club is. Host clubs are just bottle service by really pretty men (apparently all of them dress and look the same with same hair styles) and from what a classmate told me its basically a really pretty guy just flirts with you while pouring you drinks and if your lucky you get a kiss. Not to mention they are illegal in Japan

idk but I wish the best of Luck to AX's version of Maid cafe

I apologize if it seems that we're against AX's maid cafe, because that's not the case at all. In fact, one or two of our volunteers actually work for Funky Fresh Cosplay as well. We're two seperate entities. There's no competition between us, and it's good that other conventions can provide maid cafe services as well, as maid cafes are a huge part of Akihabara culture.

Though I would have to point out that above information about host clubs are false. Host Clubs are elaborate businesses with an intricate practice of flattering their customers. They are not illegal in Japan, as there are plenty of legal host clubs in Japan in business.

AX will run their own cafe how they see fit, and Fanime is running their cafe how they wish.

The results from each endeavor will tell the story.

I would also like to add that we have special events this year!
