Dealers Room / What are those dolls called?
February 18, 2007, 01:42:12 PM
Sounds like a 27 cm Obitsu to me. They are a variant on ball-jointed dolls, which come in lots of different sizes. Obitsu are made of vinyl, most other BJDs (usually larger, too) are made of resin.

I think anyone who has to switch planes to get to Fanime deserves a free cookie or something. >3

Hotel and Facilities / Amenities at the Hilton?
February 12, 2007, 10:03:01 AM
Oh god, there's no way we could have been able to afford that >< Two people, for five nights.. Ack, no.
#645
Aah, hehe. cool.

I've already got my room, but for anyone else considering the Hilton, it would have been good to know which set of numbers is correct :D Thanks for fixing it.

Math was never my strong suit, but this seems off to me..

Hilton Hotel:
Friday Night: 46% of the total room block is sold
What's left in the Hilton?
Out of a possible 266 rooms available for Friday, only 69 rooms remain.

etc.

Am I missing something? 69 left of 266 is not 46% free?

Seeing as how I've already bought a plane ticket all the way from eastern Canada and made my hotel booking, it'd be pretty silly for me not to go by now...

Hotel and Facilities / Amenities at the Hilton?
February 10, 2007, 09:17:42 AM
Awesome, thanks. We're arriving early in the afternoon on the 24th, so we should have a relatively decent choice of room.

And honestly, a max of two people sounds fine to me. There's only two of us travelling together ><'' But it sounds like it closes early.

Thank you so much for all the info.

General Convention Discussion / hotel room
February 08, 2007, 09:48:05 PM
This thread gives a good breakdown of the current room situation

http://forums.fanime.com/viewtopic.php?t=6561

If I were you, I would not wait any longer. There's really nothing to lose by booking now, they don't charge you until you check in and you can cancel it up to a week before the con. So do it now, then make changes later if you have to.

Hotel and Facilities / Amenities at the Hilton?

Thanks :D We're two people on a budget, so the presidential suite's pretty much out of the question, we just got a standard king room.

Hotel and Facilities / Amenities at the Hilton?
February 07, 2007, 02:04:14 PM
I'm just wondering, for anyone who stayed at the Hilton last year, what the rooms were like? Bathtub size, etc. Also, are there microwaves in any of the rooms?

I was told by the housing comission when I spoke to them on the phone (amazingly helpful people, btw) that the king rooms were listed as having microwaves, but I saw no mention of them on the Hilton website. It's not a problem if they don't, but it'd be nice if there's a chance I might get one.

Also, does anyone know what time the hot tubs closed normally in the evenings? I know these policies can change, but it'd be nice to have a rough idea from someone who was there last year.

Thanks!

Panels and Workshops / Otaku Manners panel?

Quote from: "Nina Star 9"another one is that you are at an anime convention and people are in elaborate costumes, so please be careful when walking, as you may step on their costumes and ruin them.

By the same token, people with really big elaborate costumes need to pay attention to their surroundings and the people aruond them. I've never been to Fanime, but I can't begin to count the number of times I was whacked by weapons, wings, or god knows what else, while I was standing in one place (at a booth or whatever, or even at one point while I was -working- in a booth) at AX last summer, and the summer before that.

Costume-based courtesy has to work both ways.

Hotel and Facilities / No suites this year?

Have you tried calling the housing comission directly and asking if they've got any aside, or can get a good price?

Yep. A three night thing for me.

Aah, okay. Curse me and living on the wrong side of the continent. >( I need a day either way for travelling.

Quote from: "lifey"Do you actually have to pay for the whole cost of the hotel room? If I'm staying at the Marriot. << I've never really done this before. Or do you just reserve it with your credit card and pay when you leave. <<?

They don't charge you until you check in or out, depending on the hotel. But the reservation doesn't cost anything right now.

I might have a roomie this year, I hope. I have plenty of time to think about that.

That is a really cute idea, actually. I'm personally not comfortable with random people touching me (too many times being groped by icky men on the subway, I guess) but I do like the thought of something like this. It's a quirky and creative way for people to show their appreciation for a costume or even just the person in it, without invading anyone's personal space.

I was really surprised it filled up so fast, honestly. And I'm sad I couldn't get a king room, the extra $30 a night is gonna mess with my budget pretty badly. :( Not to mention I've never slept in such a huge bed and I was rather looking forward to it, hehe.

There are still rooms available for people who plan to check out on the 28th, so maybe that'll help some people. I'm just flying so far east I have to leave quite early in the morning, and I didn't want to miss the entire last day of the con, so I have to fly out on the 29th.

They do have a waitlist though, and if they book another block of rooms at your choice hotel, you've got first dibs. So if anyone can't get the room they want through the website, you can always call the 800 number and ask to be put on a waitlist for the room/hotel of your choice.

If anyone's looking to book at the Hilton, I'd seriously recommend doing it right effing now. The King rooms are all full if you're staying till the 29th, and according to the woman I spoke to on the phone (who was very helpful) there's only a couple of doubles left. I'd been planning on a King, but I went for the double, rather than waiting and risking it.

Have you tried calling the 1-800 number? Maybe the people at the housing service have a few aside, or could arrange something?
