Hey everyone!

I'm wondering if there will be any Force of Will players or people interested in learning how to play at Fanime this year. I'm happy to bring a few decks and play or teach people how to play, but if there's no interest I'd rather not have them take up space while traveling.

Thanks! See everyone in less than a month!

I'll second the recommendation to check out the Swap Meet! It's fun to see rare items, and also get good deals.

I've always been a fan of the Game Show, in recent years it's been held on Stage Zero, around 10-11PM, or 11-Midnight?

Check out some panels (although it's harder to simply stumble upon one of interest since they've been moved to the Fairmont), and sit down and play some random games in the Gaming Hall. (I highly recommend a game of Fluxx, plays somewhat similar to Uno. Easy to pick up, but fun none the less.)

This is honestly really upsetting. Today is the drop cut off.

It's not happening.

I know I'm just being a spoiled brat, but I'm really upset about this!

As a side note, does anyone know anything about parking at or around the Doubletree?

If it makes you feel any better, I've been attending since 2002/2003 (not 100% sure which year it was), and I've had a hotel room since 2005/2006ish. This is the first year I've been unable to get a hotel room attached to the convention center.

This is also my second year staffing, and since 2/4 of us in the room are staff, and the other two register late due to their own circumstances, we we're unable to attempt to book a hotel room until it opened to the general public.

I can understand why they made the changes they did, but I wish that they'd announced it much further in advance.

But this is just my own personal comment on the situation, and in NO way should be considered a view of Fanime as a whole.

I don't know if anyone will be able to answer this in time (staff or previous Chopped Cosplay participants) but I'm hoping so:
For the qualifying round there's no theme: does that mean my team gets to pick a random character and make it? Or will we be told something/someone to make?
Same thing for the main event if we make it past qualifiers, are we given an AoT character to make? Or do we pick one?
I'm just trying to figure out what to expect given the rules that were sent out regarding what you can and can't bring. (I'm not sure reference images make sense unless we choose who we're making.)

Hello Everyone,

When entering your badge ID, please instead use your Confirmation number from the email that was sent to you by Badge Registration.

Sorry for the confusion.
You mean the number that starts with the letter A from the post-card e-mail, right? For group people is it all the same number? And what if you've already done that?

Oops, lost track of time and forgot.
Well I got thursday at least.

Question:  Fiance wants to help me at swap meet.  Is he considered a helper status or a seller status?  In AA they dont need permits, this is why I ask.  Also I would like to add him, only found out after he can help.
Did you manage to get past Stage 5? Or are you stuck like the rest of us?

Hoping someone will respond when they get a response from staff on the issue of being stuck at Stage 5. I'm wondering if everyone is? If someone has made it all the way through it would also be nice to know.

Same issue with Yoshiko-chan. Stuck at the validating stage.

Since we are now getting down to a week before con I just wanted to check in on when we might be hearing more information about Chopped Cosplay. I got an e-mail saying the application was going to be forwarded to the right people, but I wanted to know if I should expect any further contact before arriving for the Friday event?
Thanks all, see you soon!

Question!
My sister, friends, and I would love to apply to be a team for Chopped Cosplay, but it's looking like it's going to interfere with the Swap Meet. I know it says pending for Friday, but is there any chance of it being moved to a bit earlier?
Additionally, are you still actually taking applications? :3

Additionally:
My friends and I were looking into applying to participate in the "Chopped Cosplay" which runs Friday from 6pm-7:30pm. I believe in the past the swap meet started at 7pm? Is there any way to participate in both, or am I going to have to choose one? (I think in the past set-up has started at 5pm) Or is it possible for someone else to check-in and run my swap meet spot to start and then take over when the contest is done? (Not a guaranteed I'm getting in, but Swap Meet sales in a priority for me this year.)

Oh man, no rolling luggage either? Oh well. I know it's tricky walking that line of not getting in trouble with the union.

Question: I have art prints I've purchased over the years that I'm planning on getting rid of. Since it's a "used" art item, may I sell them here? (Obviously there's only one of each print since it would have been stupid to purchase more than one.)

It's my understanding from talking with various staff members that it's a union issue. It's the same thing dealers and artists have to deal with: if it requires a dolly, you have to hire the union and pay them a base amount.
I think they were able to get around this by having people using suitcases last year.
The rule has been around for years, but they've really started enforcing it the past few.

And I could be wrong, but that was my understanding of it.

Hi all,
First off, anything said here is not meant to be inflammatory, so please don't take it that way.
Each year there are more and more attendees, which mean more and more people wanting rooms. Unfortunately, there are only so many hotels in the area. So one of the major problems is that the website gets throttled each year. I know it's CMR who runs housing so my question is:
Is it possible to pay for additional servers ONLY for the day hotel reservations go up? If CMR is big enough, I would think this would be a possibility.
Additionally:
Is it worth considering using a system similar to Blizzard does for Blizzcon tickets with hotels in releasing them in 2-3 waves? An example would be:
Wave 1: Mon 10AM
Wave 2: Two weeks later, Sat 2PM
Wave 3: One week later Sun 5PM
This would better allow a chance for those who work during the initial time to get a hotel room they want. In theory, it also gives the people who didn't get their first choice hotel to get that one and give up their other reservation.
I know you guys are trying your hardest, and I truly do appreciate it. Just figured I'd throw a few ideas out there.
Thanks all!

Hey all,
Just thought I should point out that while completing my group's registration tonight I found that it technically gave me the option to put people's badge pick-up location as different from what I'd set the leader's pick-up location as.
I could see this creating some issues down the road. You may wish to alter that option on the sign-ups.
Hope this doesn't create any further confusion!
Thanks!

Registration / Re: Group Registration
January 31, 2014, 11:45:37 PM
The one comment I have on group registration is that I hope badges won't be processed in the same manner as last year. Last year I had three people in my group, and all of our names started with K or L. This year I'll have names in my group from all over the alphabet and would prefer not to stand in multiple lines after labels have been printed and affixed to badges.

And I also remember back when you needed 10 people for a group. I still think 5 is doable, and would hopefully encourage more people to group in larger sets to help relieve a tiny bit of congestion. (Or have a separate pick up area for group registration to help really encourage people to group reg! XD  )

Hey,
A few things I'd recommend:
It may be worthwhile to contact head of Artist's Alley if you can give proof of who it was and what you've paid for and not received.
Additionally, it may be worthwhile to check and see if the person is listed on http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/ I do caution you, however, that any post made public on that LJ can NOT be removed, only listed as resolved, so please only post a "beware" on there as a last resort.
Otherwise, sorry to hear it. : /  Good luck!

Hi all~!
I was Oogie Boogie on late night Saturday/really early morning Sunday, and Sunday for part of the afternoon.

I'm looking for pictures of myself along with my friends as the Mayor and Zero.

Thanks in advance!
Just boosting this back up a bit. I know we had toooons of photos taken, but I haven't really found any online this year. Anyone else having similar problems?

Hi Nina, staff does enforce the code of conduct, including the harassment and dry con policies. If you have been a victim of harassment by intoxicated individuals, you have every right to report the incident and that person would have been dealt with. As the con grows, there will be growing pains, many of which are increasing numbers of members who may be intoxicated. We highly encourage you to call the number on the back of your badge (the number is a direct line to convention operations) and report these incidents. It's not that staff doesn't care, its just that they can't be everywhere at once. We also have many staff members who are not trained to deal with these situations. You wouldn't want a staff member who was uncomfortable dealing with drunks to confront them either, which is why we have Rovers and specially trained Operations staff handle these types of situations.

I highly encourage anyone reading this thread to remember several key things.

  • If you have been the victim of harassment during con, report it immediately. Convention Operation's phone number is listed on the back of every badge.
[/b]
  • Take down their badge numbers. If someone is harassing you, try to get a name or badge number.
  • If you have an issue with a staff member, please get their badge number. This helps us pinpoint issues and find responsible parties. Not every staff member who walks the floor is a Rover (people often assume this is the case).

Actually, I talked with ConOps this year about a similar problem and wanted to point out that the attendee's badges had a number for Rovers this year, NOT ConOps.

I still need to fill out the feedback forum when I'm no longer sick, but I reported someone for drinking inside an event, and nothing was ever done until I left right at the end and reported it to a staff member at the back of the room (I reported it at 11:17pm, and I left and reported the person again at 11:55pm). I'm not certain at that point what should have been done, but I watched as the person's badge was NOT revoked, and they were merely told to leave the room.

As someone who has had friends who run the late night video rooms for years, I will say that I think the issue with drunken behavior this year was worse than in recent prior years. I watched drunks being let in to the rooms because they weren't being "belligerent" but were very vocal.

This is something I will be putting in the feedback: There needs to be more staff able to pull badges. I understand that you don't want everyone to be able to do this, but when the "best" a person can do is to kick them out of a room, you have a problem.
