Title: E-Gaming Suggestions/Feedback thread for 2007!
Post by: Umi.Ryuuzaki on May 28, 2006, 09:08:24 PM
I love this free wireless! Whoever set it up, someone give that man or a woman a drink!

I'll start this now, cause when I come home, I will drop my stuff and SLEEP. Anyways....

-----------

FanimeCon 2006 has come and go and it has been a kick-ass time! In a new location with arcades right next to us, I am impressed with the success of the room. Despite a few snafus, we still kicked ass.

I would like to thank the entire staff of E-Gaming 2006 for helping, assisting and pulling through. Without them, we wouldnt exist =)

To any staff that does want to return next year, I highly recommend you stay in contact me for now until we can begin the planning. To those inquiring about joining us, we will announce it.

We're taking suggestions and feedback on next year. There isn't any definates yes, but we are watching. We are aware of some of the issues and it is just some were just uncontrollable at con. We do strive to improve the best we can.

/feedback!!!!!

edit: changed the title to make more sense.

If you ask me, you had a very impressive selection of fighters. I'm glad you gave that variety. Also, I enjoyed the two DDR machines since people usually end up forming long lines if there is only one. Thanks a lot!

*Will post more later.

The air hockey table was great.  :)  Next time please make sure the table is level.  If you let the mallet go of your hands you will notice it always sliding to the same corner.

Air Hockey? A++++++ WILL PLAY AGAIN. That was easily the highlight of the whole arcade room, next to the surprise ParaParaParadise 2ndMIX.

I loved the import copy of Samurai Spirits. My only real complaint was that there was no console #Reload or GGXX. When I asked the staffers about it they responded with, "We won't set up one since there is a Slash arcade already over there." I offered to provide the game and PS2 for one of the tvs nobady was swarming but they refused the offer, lame. :x

We were asked by both arcade vender and fanimecon upper management not to have any copies on hand for the consoles, aside from tourny mode. This may be repeated again for next year, and if so, we will try to squeeze in a tourny for that game.

Should've set up a GGXX E gaming. Some of us don't want to throw 50 cents away just so some crazy asian kid can kick our butt in 10 seconds.

I wouldn't mind getting my butt kicked in 10 seconds if I didn't pay anything...but having to pay to lose kind of took all the fun away.

So yeah, that was lose.

Other than that, it was pretty cool. More TVs and systems next year would be good as well...hehehe and by then the Wii will be out...

HOTFLASH!!!!

Air Hockey was great. Had a lot of fun at the table. My girl had so much fun that she decided she wanted to start a web comic on it (using my art)  :D

Althouuuugh....

I was kinda disappointed IIDX didn't make it. I was so hyped to see it and when I toured the game room for the first time I was really bleh.

Agreed!

Normally I spend a lot of time in Tabletop, but with it so cramped this year, I didn't play one thing in it. There was plenty of space in the e-gaming hall, too - All it takes to run tabletop is lots of tables and comfy chairs. Now that would be perfect!

I hope that next year both things can be combined into the same room. It makes sense. we have a forum for all things gaming, why not have a room dedicated to the same thing?

I'm making this a sticky btw

I loved how many console games there were. You guys even had a Saturn and two Dreamcasts! That's AWESOME. You know what else would be really cool? Some other old consoles like N64. I know a lot of people who still prefer the original Super Smash Bros, and so forth. Also, Mario Kart 64.

The choice of games was generally great, though. Katamari Damacy? Yes, please! Ikaruga? Yay. Super Mario Stikers? Surprisingly great.

I think there should have to been 2 TVs for SSBM like last year. It was really packed >.< and it just seemed so small since the computers werent like right there next to you and the room was so big but that was good. Also the game like beatmania was gone it was sad T_T

Not that I disagree...but I only have on problem with the idea of putting all 3 into one room - the noise. Doesnt tabletop require a somewhat quiet environment? I didn't go into there much, but to me, I think the sheer noise from E-Gaming and arcades would prove to be a problem.

Then again, I am open to ideas. I have a few ideas in mind....

The gaming room was great this year. I was a little miffed that there was only one TV for SSBM, but that can easily be over looked. I still got a ton of matches in. I personally loved the variety of the games this year, and the classic systems were a dream come true.

On a side note, I'm surprised that barely anyone was playing Power Stone 2 with us. That was great fun!

The arcade was a blast too, but I sure didn't like paying 50 cents just to get my butt kicked. Bah, it was still fun.

I can't think of any real complaints, but if I do I'll let you all know.

I was either thinking of putting tabletop with the rest of gaming in a corner away from all the noise. According to the higher ups, tabletop was given a smaller room this year because the room wasn't filled in 2004. Well, since after this year, we will try for a much larger room for 2007 with more explosions and partial nudity... lol.

Everyone in my group really missed Dance Maniax this year. ;_; Please bring it back for next year!

One other complaint I heard a lot, and agreed with, was that it would be nice if the music machines were more spread out. It was waaaaaaaaaay too loud over there, and it was distracting if you were playing one game and another one was going on next to you.

Overall I thought it was really good though. ^_^ I especially liked the machine with the plushies, that made me waste quite a bit of money without ever getting anything. It was rather...addicting.

Mm, there were two TVs I think on the last day. T.T But, I agree with you that there should have been more TVs with SSBM.  Although, I missed the SSBM tournie, and I heard that it was FILLED by like Sat.

But, I enjoyed the SSBM, DOA4, Katamari, and others... I liked how it was really air-conditioned in there too~  No more sweaty stuffy room!

Major kudos for KoF XI and SCIII:AE in the arcade.  I was extremely surprised at the latter.  Even more praise for SS Tenka in the console gaming.  Totally didn't expect that one.

Overall, there was a great variety and I think this has been the best e-gaming room in the last few years.  I was quite pleased.

(I will repeat this post, probably in greater detail, in the feedback thread)

So let me get this right: 48 hours after the con, the common jest is, put all aspects of FanimeCon Gaming (E-Gaming's PC+Console, Arcades, Tabletop) into the exhibit hall 3 as a center for all gaming, or as I see it now "mega, "super", uber Gaming Hall"?

Now, not that I will promise anything at all, it might be an good idea. The only  few problems I see with it is: the doors situlation that later kinda got out of control, the noise bleed that might affect tabletop (unless i'm totally wrong), and how it work out @ con from a coordination point of view. I have an personal variation of the idea of how to possibly make this idea happen, but we'll see.

Now, if sofas were a viable option to have, imagine the possiblities...

Keep it going with the feedback! The staff and upper management are watching to make sure Gaming @ FanimeCon remains, is, and will be kickass for the future!

Normally, the noise generated by the tabletop gaming room can drown out a JRock concert. I don't really think a few geeks should have a problem competing with a DDR machine. In fact, that would be rather easy.

I agree that table top gaming can get loud especially playing Apples to Apples. The only games that would suffer from noise would be roleplaying I think.

I kinda like the idea that table top be combined into the mega room.
Pro's:
more space
better air conditioning
more connected to the rest of the con

Con's:
possible noise problems
fighting to keep chairs at the tables (the arcade tends to absorb chairs)
lighting

That would be great for a handheld gaming lounge.  :D

But even if we don't get sofas I still think a few tables should be set up for the hand held gamers, with signage stating the purpose of the area. It would be an easy setup and I think it would attract more gamers to the room.
Title: Fanime 2006 Arcade Machines
Post by: Tsuchimi Rin-chan on May 31, 2006, 10:00:07 PM
For anyone wondering who is responsible in providing the Arcade Machines this year is a company called,

On Campus Entertainment.  (Not Sunnyvale Golfland)

The reason why On Campus Entertainment did not want to hold any kind of arcade tournaments of any kind is to make sure Fanime Con is profitable in making money for these machines.

E-gaming had no say about those arcade machines or made arrangements with OCE.  The contract was made between OCE and Fanime Con's High Management.

I give props to OCE for the last minute surprise of Para Para Paradise.

Please give feedback to this Arcade company so they can provide more machines next year along with better selection of arcade cabinets.

The Plushie machine is very intriguing for OCE to import that one.

(BTW we will later somehow provide a source on where to contact this company)

Just a few things.

First I'd like to thank Chito for having me on staff for EGaming this year, it was fun working with you guys and I'm still thinking what department I want to do next year. I might go back to EGaming because I want to make this handheld lounge a reality for 2007.

Please, please, pleaseeeeeeeee don't drum too hard on our Taiko Drum Master drums. There were signs posted next to the PS2s which were running TDM, but I noticed that a lot of people just ignored it.

I was going to leave Arcade feedback here, but I just found the other thread.

Next year needs a 4-player Maximum Tune 2 setup, as well as House of the Dead 4.

And as DBV suggested, there needs to be more scrolling shooters--Mushihime-Sama and DDP Dai-Ou-Jou would be nice.

Also, change the long ver songs on Drum Mania back to 2 songs per long version. With a 7+ coin line, and people playing all of their stages long ver songs...

I want to clear up something here and now: this thread is designed for the Console and PC portion of E-Gaming.

We're exploring more options, now that we got bit more flexibity. We're looking at expanding and possiblity trying a few new things.

We're still looking for more feedback if there is any. It was a kick-ass room, I still want to be even more kick ass.

The E-Gaming room was good this year, but when I was playing Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, the person I played was getting pissed because I was winning; I wonder what his problem was...

Anyways, many people will agree with me on this; get some Nintendo Wiis when they come out. Everyone will be clamoring for Super Smash Bros. Brawl at Fanime '07 once they play it next year. People are already asking for it.

One thing that I can think of for a console gaming setup is for the fighting games. Use a couch for 4 people, only the playing people sit on it. Every time   somebody loses, they give up their seat and controler. I think this would work well for Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 3/4 and games like Shin Samurai Spirits and Narutimate Hero 2/3. (If you get NH3 for '07)

Also, the Handheld Lounge thing could work, but the big problem is the fact that people do bring their handhelds to Fanime, but not everyone does. There would also have to be major advance notice on the Main website for '07 when it goes up if the Handheld Lounge gets approved.

About the combining of E-Gaming+Arcade Gaming+Tabletop Gaming into one room, it could work. All the excess space in the hall this year could be used by Tabletop next year, and it's pretty much true that the only games that could be bothered by the noise from the games would be Tabletop RPGs. If I had a scanner, I could try to upload an idea of what I think what a good setup for this room could be.

One last thing, pass this on to the coordnators for Arcade Gaming. If you think that it could eat up chairs next year, try to get some stools that wouldn't leave the arcade area. it works for all the cabinets at SVGL, so if you could get stools fir the con next year, no excess of chairs in the arcade area.

I'm sorry if I wasted your time with this long winded post, but I just wanted to see if I could be of any help.

Edit: I just remembered, whoever brought their copy of Radiant Silvergun this year should bring it back next year. First time playing it and it was awesome. If you do, I will be grateful.

I really enjoyed the gaming room. I loved Taiko Drum Master even though some of the sensors died from people hitting it to hard.

I was dissapointed that the didn't have Naruto Narultimate Hero 3. They only had 2 which I found a bit odd. I was also dissapointed that there wasd no competition for NNH2. Otherwise the console gaming was great.

I also wish that there had been a handheld room. I had my DS and was hoping to play Bust-A-Move and Tetris with people. I also wanted to test others games out, but I never got that chance. Even if you like had an area in the gaming room where you tossed some carpets to sit on or something. There was plenty of room in there. But just by dedicating an area to handheld would bring the people with the DS's and PSP's to one central area so they could play together.

The computers seemed good though I wasn't able to get on any of them. During the freetime they were really busy and during tournaments you weren't allowed on the empty computers. So more of those would be good I think.

Other then that keep up the great work!

About the PS3 and Wii's - As I did with the Xbox360's, "find me a willing donor and we'll do it." Lets assume both dont have thier release dates slip - that will make us expand the consoles by a good 30% alone, just to have the space and also ensure nothing happens to them. We are going to factor both new consoles into our plans, but until we get a secure donor/sponsor/whatever to get them, I cannot say we will have them. Tournys for them are going to be exhibition level, due to the lack of experience for now unless they haven't changed "much".

For the handheld room/section, it is being reexplored again. With us gripping how Exhibit Hall 3 works, this can be done. We are looking for suggestions/ideas for this. Hopefully the Wi-Fi access is still extended to the exhibit halls and the gaming can happen.

I can tell you right now, if there's such a thing called a sofa sponsor...

the Wii is dated to come out at the end of this year and i think it will most definitely stay that way. i am for sure going to buy one, and hopefully, will bring it to next year's fanime, so for right now, count me as a possible donor of a Wii. i will also try to acquirre enough GC controllers and Wii-motes.

the only request that i make is that as soon as you guys shut down console gaming for the night, that i be able to retrive it so i can take it back up to my room. i would return it the next morning and set it back up. not to sound disrespectful, but i have had my things stolen by people in the past(not by anyone at fanime), and im just protective of my valuables. other than that, i would be willing to lend its services for fanime.

for consoles, i heard talk of a BYOC (bring your own controller) option for tourneys. im personally all for this. maybe its just my mind telling my hands this or there really is something physical about my controller that makes me play at the top of my game. whatever the reason, i would really like this to be put into consideration for next year

and i am well aware of the server issue on its complexity of setting it up
my clan is sponcered by a server company called Vivid-Hosting (http://www.vivid-hosting.net/)
if i ask them to sponcer Fanime-Con a server could there be a CS tourny and stuff?

they are going to have servers just down the street in that tower across from the park. so moving a server over to teh convention center will be no problem

I would like to see at lease one StarFox Assualt 4 player match. I forgot my Starfox Assualt last year, but I'm packing it this year.  I mean when I was there, there was some people that actually wanted to see at lease one StarFox Assault match. I deffinitly would so hold that match. I was an unofficial staff member at the information table on the consert floor and I was given a lot of prayes from real staff members, that was funny. Anyways, back to my point. I would like to see or hold a Starfox Assualt match on the GameCube console. Please consider it.

Last year, before becoming Fanimafia material, I was only going to come for the DDR tourney. When it was yoinked, I stayed for other reasons.

'Course, I'll GO to next Fanime if such is the case again, but... COSPLAY DDR TOURNEYS PLZKTHX? (I'll find some way to incorporate Kachuu Tenshin Amaguriken into my routine again...)

Did I mention IIDX?

IIDX: Thumbs up.
Wii: Thumbs up.
BYOC for tourneys: Thumbs up.
Cosplay DDR: Thumbs waaaaay up.
Handheld Lounge: Thumbs up.

Sofa Donors: Mayyyybe. Of course, if the sofa's aren't big enough to fit all four players, then we've got the same problem as before, if not worse. Maybe if you had designated "player chairs" that were a different color from the "spectator chairs" - forcing people to give up their next-to-the-TV seats if they're not playing - that could help solve the problem.

Game room opening after everything else: Thumbs down. What was the delay last year - was it arcade, consoles, or just scheduling that meant they weren't open bright and early? I know in previous years the arcade-in-the-fairway was up and running as soon as I got to the con (like 8am). It gives people something to do before viewing rooms, the dealer room, and events and all are open.

Wii = Stolen Wii-motes?
Cosplay DDR = Ripped costumes?
Handheld Lounge = I'll see what I can scrounge up regarding a "plan" for it.

Stolen Wii-motes = Eh, that's true. If people take care of their controllers (I.E, mark them somehow, make it clear it's THEIRS, and don't let it go), this shouldn't be a problem. Fanime isn't responsible for the loss of Wii-motes.
Ripped Costumes = Not if they've planned them right. My Ranma cosplay, albeit awful, was VERY mobility-enabling. If you can't run in your cosplay, DON'T ENTER COSPLAY DDR TOURNEY.
Scrounging a "plan" = DO IT. FOR GRATE JUSTICE.

(Not GREAT justice, GRATE.)

Quote from: "HamSTA"please please PLEASE have Counter Strike this year!

and i am well aware of the server issue on its complexity of setting it up
my clan is sponcered by a server company called Vivid-Hosting (http://www.vivid-hosting.net/)
if i ask them to sponcer Fanime-Con a server could there be a CS tourny and stuff?

they are going to have servers just down the street in that tower across from the park. so moving a server over to teh convention center will be no problem

i concur with the man above.

I sent ya a PM man - whats up? E-Gaming is interested if it can be done...

I cannot answer this accurately, but at the time, i've requested that the E-Gaming section be opened later because we needed additional time to finish seting up. I know arcades was ready to go, but the main jest is setup time.

Wii and PS3 at FanimeCon: same policy with the XBox360s - find me a willing donor and its considered done. Security is going to be increased even more so considering...its a PS3 and Wii lol. Once more planning starts up more, we're gonna review our tournament setup. Thats alot of consoles we got already supporting and also the PC section and fighting for tourny slots.

E-Gaming will be making announcements later on but I cannot promise any in the near future right now.

As i have previously posted in this thread: as long as fanime can give me their word that if my Wii gets stolen that they will reimburse me for it, or at least have enough people monitoring consoles to prevent this from happening, then i would gladly step up as a "donor."
Wii-motes are very risky since those can just dissappear very easily, but that would need to be worked out later on. So long as i can retrieve my Wii every night and have it set up before the start of the very next day, then i'm all for it.

We have a waiver setup and unfortunately, the 'Con cannot reimburse you if I recall. Once I get a copy that isnt on this virused up system i'm on right now, I can send you a copy to see how it is and works.

In all honestly, in the past we have had wireless controllers deployed since we did not anymore wired ones and they havent been stolen. Its a risk we take but we clearly tell our loaners (inside staff and outside loaners) the realistic situlation of the E-Gaming setup and the considerable risks that they are taking.

As for retrieving the Wii, I need to talk to you in person before we set anything in stone.

I noticed a Para Para machine at 06 and was immediately intriqued. But I have no idea how to play it. I was thinking that maybe there should be an intro to Para Para Panel or something, because I've searched the net trying to make some sense of it, and still, it doesn't. I WANNA PLAY!!! T__T

Hi, Fanime 06 Gamers.  I am one of the Fanime 06 E-gaming Staffers.  My name is Jason.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  As for the PS3 and Wii, if they are brought and loaned out to E-Gaming by Staffers (Only) we have to increase security at least 3 times the amount to prevent theft, misuse and abuse to the Video Game Consoles and accessories (Wireless Controllers for PS3 and Wii.)

Fanime is NOT responsible in reimbursing lost or damaged Video Game Consoles and assessories.

As for Taiko Drum Master, I myself and my other friend loaned our drums and games out for you guys to enjoy.  Its questionable whether or not Taiko Drum Master may return to Fanime since we put up a sign as clear as daylight not to bang or abuse the Taiko Drum as near the end of the convention, the drum sensors were almost non responsive.

Para Para Paradise is not a hard game to play to whoever posted up that response.  Staffers who are on break or other Fanime gamers are more than willing to help out gamers that have very little to no knowedge in playing the Import Para Para Dance Simulator.

Please keep up with the positive suggestions and feedback on how we can improve Fanime 2007's E-Gaming Department.  Thanks.  :o

Maybe we should have a Classic Gaming section, dedicated to all the late and great systems like Atari, NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, Playstation, and Dreamcast.

Good Idea with the Classic gaming.  This should be implemented onto the upcoming Fanime 2K7 E-gaming.  Provided that the staffers of the department can loan out their consoles to go with the Next Gen gaming.

I want to try the Bleach game for gamecube. I think this could work seeing as how Bleach as been on Adult Swim and thus it's hit mainstream level. Not to mention I want to try out more import games for my gamecube. ^^;

As far as consoles go, in addition to the next-gen consoles (PS3, Wii, 360), I think a classic console gaming room would be good. NES, SNES, Genesis, maybe a PC Engine (the Japanese TurboGrafx 16) if someone gets lucky...

What do you all think?
